Earlier this week I had a blind item about an actor who is on the verge of killing himself because of drugs and booze, and it turns out that Bobbi Kristina's family are worried that she is drinking herself to death. Well, it is not like her parents do not have a history of addiction. I am a big believer in the fact that the addiction gene is carried on in life. I don't think it is a see your parents kind of thing and follow like it is with domestic violence. I think, and I have no scientific evidence to back up my theory, but it is what I believe. I think that you can become addicted without your parents having that gene, but I think if your parents are addicts, then you have a much better chance of becoming one yourself. Anyway, Bobbi is 19 and lots of 19 year old kids drink a whole lot, so that part does not really worry me, it is the fact that her family is worried which means that if they are worried with what they have seen, then Bobbi must be putting away massive amounts of booze everyday. I wonder if it is because she is feeling creeped out about having sex with her lover/brother.
Enty's not the only one with the feeling that addiction may be, in part at least, genetically transmitted. A lot of people I knew working in that field think the same thing.

DeleteIt is genetic and drinking is a learned thing as well. I grew up in a household where alc was glorified. The bar was well stocked and every time someone came over there were drinks poured or beer served. It was like a birthday party mandating a cake---everyday and anything called for a round of drinks.

ReplyDelete@BlindItemMe - Good morning! I don't think he seems to be a very good influence. He doesn't seem to be helping her get her ish together. He recently tweeted a pic of himself driving and holding up a gun, but I'm not sure if it was real or not (he ended up deleting it, which makes me think it was real).

Why is this on TV? Why do networks think watching someone dissolve in front of our eyes is entertainment? Shame on them for producing this crap and shame on us for watching. She needs help... not a reality show pay check.

ReplyDeleteIf you do the charts with Mendel's genetics, it clearly shows it is probably genetic. I also think cigarette smoking is also genetic which may be why some people struggle to quit.
ReplyDeleteMaybe they have a right to be worried. However, I am the daughter and granddaughter (and niece, cousin, etc) of alcoholics, and when I was 19, I drank all the time, was always at the bar or hungover. My mom was VERY worried about me. Now I am a 30 year old married woman who never goes to the bar and has maybe 3 drinks over the course of a month. I just have no use for it. So... I'm not sure that how much you drink at 19 indicates whether or not you're an alcoholic, or maybe it just indicates that you're hanging out with the wrong (and not very interesting) people.

ReplyDeleteMy father was an alcoholic, I don't drink, nor does my brother, but we each have children who drink to excess.
I think we beat it by never taking a drink, not wanting to be like dad.
Well, she's dealing with the tragic death of her mother and her father is no help; he's an idiot.

Whitney's brother was an addict(don't know if he beat it or not). Cissy was an alcoholic and Whitney was getting high waaay before Bobby. I saw her and the brother high and belligerent with my own two.
ReplyDeleteI think there can be a bit of a predilection for it, and believe it is learned, like domestic violence. It's a destructive coping mechanism and so sad to see that many generations of the same family affected by it.
I really feel for that kid. Whitney left her completely unprepared for life and didn't even choose a paternal family with one functional person in it.
Rehab? I think she needs a convent! Get her away from her brother lover. He's not Woody Allen!
