Lena Dunham Wanted To Dress Up As Serial Killer & Rapist Victim

Lena Dunham of Girls fame on HBO apologized to all of Canada after what she said was a joke suggestion for Halloween costumes went horribly wrong. In a Tweet to Mindy Kaling and BJ Novak, Lena suggested they dress up as Canadian serial killers Paul Bernardo and Karla Homolka who were convicted of a series of rapes and murders including Karla's own 15 year old sister. In Lena's Tweet she said if Mindy and BJ would dress up as the killers she would dress up as the 15 year old sister they killed. Lena apologized kind of. Said she did not mean that people should dress up as killers or rapists but was talking about improper Halloween costumes. Lena has got a lot of fame very quickly and a huge book deal, but it can all go away in a hurry if she is not careful.

  1. Unfortunately there seems to be a run of "celebrities" who do not THINK before they tweet/text/email/Facebook

  2. Uhhh...I KIND OF get dressing up as someone like John Wayne Gacy since he was a clown. KIND OF. But rounding out the theme and making a joke about being the killers/rapists and the rape/murder victim is uh...in poor taste?

On that note. I'm off to get my annual physical. Gross.

  4. They also suggested dressing up as the West Memphis Three hence the "looking scary but actually innocent" tweet.

  5. Her 15 minutes will be over soon enough.

  6. Am not enjoying this post either!

At least I know who they are (except Lena trick).

I just wanna shout out to the West Memphis Three. Those guys! Legal system fail in a big way. Lives ruined. I am so happy they were released and have a chance to experience life as free men. Arkansas owes them
    Big Time!

    2. RCB - we are like the same person! Sisters from another mother. I have lots of family in PA and OH. Maybe we are distant cousins!!!

Have fun with your sweet niece today :)

    3. Dia, we may be distantly related. I was at a viewing for my great aunt last night and saw people I have known from coming into my work, yup they turned out to be my cousins! Ya never know!

I'm actually back at work now :( so no baby til sunday. Have a good weekend girl!

  7. Thank god I'm nobody and my tasteless tweets and Facebook posts to friends aren't held to the same level of pointless public scrutiny.

    1. I was thinking the same thing. One of the downsides to fame is that everyone judges all your inappropriate jokes to your friends. Mind your own business people!

  8. Have never been impressed with Lena Dunham, who seems to be the current darling of the chattering classes. Agree that her 15 minutes are ticking by quickly.

  10. Some people should not be on Twitter.

  11. This is why I do not tweet - everybody all up in your thoughts!!

I have an account as Roman Holiday but need to try and remember the password all the time - takes too much effort to have people be mad at me for the things I think! And I think some pretty shitty things sometimes!! #nobodysperfect.

  12. Not surprised in the least. This Lena chick has zero taste - every single red carpet appearance she looks like her clothes are home made by a blind nun.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Wow....do people not know you can group text? smh

    ReplyDelete
  14. Roman! I want to know your deep shitty thoughts! ;)

I don't tweet for the same damn reason.

*Fingers typed derp instead of deep the first go round. That seems funnier*

  15. Another one of those so-called girls who are really mentally incompetent women, on tv only because who their parents are. She makes me nauseous.

  16. I remember that story about the 15 year old girl, her sister and boyfriend and it was a truly disgusting and heartbreaking story.

I never liked Lena Dunham or her show and I always thought there was something a little "off" about her. It is interesting to read on here that there are others on here that don't care for her. I guess I was buying into the media hype and thought I was alone on this...

  17. I agree with nutty flavor. lena doesn't have much of anything to say. I read her recent essay in the new yorker. meh. she is about the same age as mindy kaling, but mindy has real talent and insight.

  18. @ Dia, you should of left it as it was - I probably would of got it:)

But really, you don't want to know because sometimes I speak the truth and you know what they say about that!!!
I would have so many haters or twitter:)

  20. That's disgusting and I tweeted my disappointment to her when I saw it. She needs to stop trying so hard and NOT bring up shit like that. It's so beyond inappropriate and just looks like she's desperate to be funny.

    RIP the victims.

Us Canadians are still pretty sensitive about that because it was HORRIBLE. Why even BRING IT UP? FUck.

  21. So tired of hearing about Lena Dunham and Girls. A little too hipster & full of her own press. The whole cast of that show is comprised of daughters-of-"someone."

Mindy Kaling also annoys me. Like Mary Lynn Rajskub, every time I see her on a talk show I find her very annoying.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I love the show Girls but Lena's character annoys me to no end... then I realized THAT IS HER IN REAL LIFE.

I can't wait til her 15 mins are up as well. She's ridiculously annoying & HIPSTER. UGHHH.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Read a couple of books about Bernardo/Homolka - they're some sick fucks. I can't believe she's out of prison.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Ugh I don't like this chick. She such an annoying, entitled hipster. I could only watch about half of one episode of her show

    ReplyDelete
  25. @ HalleGoLightly, I don't like Mindy Kaling either. When her show first premiered, Lainey had a write up about her, how it felt like Mindy was the popular girl who we should all like, but couldn't. Her and Lena should go off somewhere, and be deep hipsters so we don't have to hear about them

    ReplyDelete
  26. Paul Bernardo and Karla Homolka were/are soulless monsters. While we're cracking jokes about torture and murder of children Why not dress up as the victims of the OCKC?

    ReplyDelete
  27. you guys do know you can tweet under any name you choose, right?

fuck this bitch and her boring ass show about boring chicks being boring with boring guys in UBER EDGY NEW YORK.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I'm glad I'm not the only person who loathes Lena. I found her show unfunny, her style sloppy and her taste poor. Those murderers in Canada were seriously deranged and ruined many lives. Joking about them is in the poorest taste.

    ReplyDelete
  29. tweet this lena:
    i am a PENDEJA

    ReplyDelete
  30. dia that cracked me up - love Jack Handy!!! but I think Brad Pitt took over his deep thoughts;p

    ReplyDelete
  31. Meh. I get where they were trying to go with that. That Lena chick did maybe go too far.

For years I refused to wear a real halloween costume. I would just dress normally and if anyone asked what I was supposed to be it would go something like this:

    "Nice costume, what is it?"

    "Serial killer."

    "But you don't look scary."

    "Exactly."

This was the period right after a big serial killer case was solved here. People were not amused, but I found it hilarious. Mostly because it made people really uncomfortable.

  32. maybe people should be Lena for Halloween: a horribly dressed, dumpy looking hipster that has her fame b/c of her connections not talent...with a bowl cut.

    Funny^

  34. Glad to come here and find that there are many like me who know Dunham is where she is because of her parents and their connections not her talent.

Her so called apology with that afterthought about moving to Canada was condescending to say the least.

Hopefully her 15 minutes are just about up.

  35. I think a lot of these celebs would do well to take some basic management classes. It could teach them a lot about how to carry themselves in the public eye and maintain their image integrity.

If anything else, she got her first taste of public embarrassment. Hopefully she's smart enough not to risk her good fortune with another tacky gaffe. That's a lot of money on the line to be allowing her ego, no matter how unique & oddball hipsterish it may be, to get out of control.

    ReplyDelete
  36. oh i should have added spoiled brat to the costume too!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Plus Judd Apatow is probably livid. He's the one who helped her get that show, correct?

    ReplyDelete
  38. It sounds like someone who got major fame too fast and wasn't eased into what's ok to say publicly. She thought she was being funny and edgy but you can only do that properly after experience of trial and error. Someone like Gilbert Godfriend could joke about this and make some of us laugh, but not some newbie on her first tv show.

  39. I've never posted a comment on cdan before, but reading these comments about hating Lena Dunhman have proven to me that I am in my element here. I can't wait for her to fade into obscurity. And while I loved Mindy Kaling on The Office, her book was the most boring thing I have ever tried to read in my life. Super disappointing.

  40. I really miss the old saying "F### 'em if they can't take a joke". Come on Lena, stand up for your right to practice tasteless comedy. If you back down, the terrorists win.

    ReplyDelete
  41. As someone who is from the area where those crimes took place and had family working in the police department at that time..I don't even have words.

Oh wait! Tacky ass bitches? hmm, too nice.

  42. Killer Karla & Paul are NOTHING to joke about.
Last summer my company was working at the Kingston Penn (where Paul is locked up), & he kept yelling to our workers outside for 'someone to talk to him.' He does this 24/7 - just yells. The guards told me that he has gone insane ....

  43. Im gettingto not like halloween. All the gory, sick, bloody stuff is not for me. Some go way too far in my opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Here, here, Evil Kumquat. I can't fault these folks for joking around about halloween costumes when one of my exes and I went as Ted Kennedy and Mary Jo Kopechne to a Dead Man's Party very shortly after TK had died.

  45. it wasnt in the best of taste, but it was a joke...i'll cut her some slack.

  46. Ha!! Love it, Lucas!

  47. I sort of get where she's coming from - my friends and I joke about being wildly inappropriate things for Halloween every year - but we do it in PRIVATE and in PERSON. This little incident is yet another reason I'm advocating to change the name of that site from "Twitter" to "Twatter".

Oh, and fuck Lena Dunham. She's so obnoxious. Oooooh look at me I'm all quirky and hipster and awkward. Just shut up and go away.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Okay, I really really want to like Lena. I'll forgive a lot of her stupid gaffes where she's trying to be funny but she's clearly not.

But this? This is reprehensible. Paul Bernado and Karla Homolka were two of the sickest people in Canadian history. They were pure evil. This is fucking disgusting, seriously.

Yes, let's laugh at serial rapists and murderers who do this to their OWN FAMILY MEMBERS.

Ugh. GROW UP LENA. Stop being such a fucking moron.

    ReplyDelete
  49. wow, Im super glad Im not famous with everyone reading way tooooo into pointless blurbs.

Shit, they were joking. Y'alls is too uptight sometimes.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I think the difference between someone like Gilbert Gottfried or Sarah Silverman doing a joke like this and Lena Dunham is that the former two know how offensive and crass it is at a visceral level. They can own it, each in their own respective shocking ways (vis Silverman's "The Aristocrats" performance.

Dunham just comes off like a sheltered rich kid doing a twee "aren't I so edgy" shtick. The horror doesn't really register because she's a self-centered twit who's unable to create a theory of mind about another other than herself and her narrow social circle. Everything about her just drips with being a solipsistic asshole.

  52. Solipsism- extreme preoccupation with & indulgence of one's feelings, desires, etc; egoistic self-absorption

Well shit. That could describe 95% of Hollywood, lol.

    Thanks @Spike, I learned a new word today. :)

    ReplyDelete
  53. Jesus, she is one smug, entitled and tone-deaf douche. Hated her before but really loathe her now. I guess because she thinks all edgy hipster people and NY media adore her she can say any crap shit and people will just think she's so daring and boho. What a tool.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Am I the only person that liked Girls? I thought it was funny. Anything that pokes fun at millenials...

This joke, however, was in very poor taste. Tsk, tsk.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Lena is heartless.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Fuck off Lena.

Yes, I'm Canadian and this is not funny at all. It would be like dressing up as Jon-Benet and her parents or something (not quite the same, but I hope you see where I'm going with this).

Bernardo and Homolka are a couple o' bags of smashed assholes. Glorifying them isn't edgy, hip, or really all that creative.

  57. Bernado has gone insane? He was insane the day he was born, just faking being normal.
