National Enquirer Blind Item

THIS famous male designer reached out to a handsome Marine after seeing him on the news, hoping to transform the military hunk into a supermodel. The aging and openly gay fashion guru flew the soldier first-class to Miami, but the hottie bolted when the design icon made sexual advances toward him. Who is he?

  4. A Marine was suprised that an openly gay fashion guru made sexual advances towards them after flying them first-class to Miami? Seriously?

  6. I like the Michael Kors guess, because it says "designer" + "fashion guru". Considering he's been a judge on Project Runway and whatever else, I think that sets him apart as a guru.

  7. I worry that there is, even now, a nervous and frightened Marine scampering around the streets of Miami in a gay panic. And that's just sad. Also, why can't the designer just use Craigslist like everyone else?

  8. Karl Lagerfeld.

  9. @Topper I married a Marine he told me Marine stands for "muscles are required intelligence not essential."

  10. was going to guess Kunty Karl but now thinking Calvin Klein (Karl in Paris, Klein more likely to be in Miami)

  14. So you're brave enough to go into battle, but run away when a gay guy hits on you? I think we may have just found the ultimate military weapon.

    Nothing but net, baby :)

  16. I don't see Kors being this careless - he has a lot riding on his name right now and a lot to lose if his reputation is trashed.

  17. I would put Michael Kors a little lower on the guess list. He's a newlywed. He married his long term boyfriend Lance LePere last August. Calvin Klein, however, recently broke up with his much younger male model boyfriend.

  21. If this was a young woman who was lured to Miami under the guise of a modelling offer who then had to fend off unwanted advances from some old man, everyone would be outraged.

Wouldn't it be just as uncool for the Marine to assume that because the man was gay that he was going to get hit on?

  22. Right there with you ButterKwup. I find it offensive that jokes are made because the Marine was unassuming and thought it was a real offer to work and then was hit with the 'scratch my back and I'll scratch yours'.
    Stank!

  27. Marines aren't stupid (well, the one's I know aren't) so let's just cast that myth aside.
Also, obviously this guy didn't feel that threatened, because Marines know how to defend themselves.
I agree with Butter. The way this is written is that the guy was contacted and offered easy money to pose in uniform. Who wouldn't jump at that chance?
He "scampered" I suppose because he was made to feel uncomfortable, therefore giving up the deal/money.
If he is wandering the streets of Miami I am fairly certain he can fend for himself. What with having served in a war zone that led him to be in the news and all.

  28. Enty, I love you, but you never call a Marine a soldier. They will get very upset. My hubby is a Marine and I did that mistake when he fist joined. Soldiers are for Army personnel only. A Marine will always be called a Marine. Each branch has their own term. That is all.

  30. Just read through some of the comments and I can't believe how easily we disrespect those that serve our country. These men and women give up so many rights and put their lives on the line for ALL of us and we in turn make fun of them!!!! That is so disturbing Why would any person who is offered a possible modeling job EXPECT to be hit on by the designer whom they are working with? That is just ridiculous. Have some respect for those who risk their lives for us. They are much more brave than most people ever will be.

  31. MelTheLibrarian, well written, totally agree.

  32. Mel:

Indeed. If you take notice, the people laughing at this Marine and making jokes about him running out into the streets of Miami in a "gay panic" are often the ones who sputter the most outrage at guys who do the "casting couch" for female actresses and models. It's a shitty thing to submit a person to, whether they're a waifish 18 year old woman or a strapping Marine. There are a lot of hypocrites here who need to look deep into themselves.

  33. I don't think anyone thinks this gentleman ran into the street in a gay panic. In my opinion, people were just making jokes about an otherwise mundane story. This designer was obviously a jerk for trying to take advantage of the situation

I personally have the utmost respect for those in the military, and whenever I see someone in uniform I either thank them for their service or smile with a nod.

  34. Sunny:

That's what I mean. When there's a casting couch blind, there are howls for the abuser to be unmasked and thrown to the wolves. Why? Because it's an abuse of power and privilege to gain sex where there otherwise would not be any real consent.

Basically you guys are making almost-rape jokes, but that's okay because it's the inverse of how it usually goes with a younger weaker woman and a stronger mature man. But the truth is, even if the designer is a a smaller man in his 60s and it's a big strapping Marine, the designer is holding all the same power cards a straight male director does when he does casting couch. The guy probably felt as sick, surprised, powerless and used as a woman in the same situation would feel, and you guys think it's great laugh material, when you're all pious when it's the usual case of abuse. And that makes me sick.

  35. @Spike

I definitely see the point you're making. I will say this though: when I read the blind quickly this morning, I didn't see the word "sexual" before advances. To you that not mean a big difference, but as a woman we have to deal with unwanted advances all the time. Not threatening advances most of the time, but when I was in my 20's (before always having a baby in tow - ha!) I just always felt I had to be on the defensive with men whenever I wasn't in a group

All that being said, I apologize if you were offended and I thank you for going to the trouble to calmly explain your point of view :)

  37. Pople arent laughing at the marine...sweet jeebus. Even if they were, so what? service people are just people doing a job...they deserve no higher status or respect than anyone else with a job.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Agreed Lori. And while the older male designer may hold all the cards, so to speak, what are the chances that the marine A) wanted to be a supermodel or any other kind of model so really didn't give a shit unlike the struggling starlet who is desperate to make it in Hollywood and B) if he was that good looking and on television, chances are someone with legitimate intention would contact him if they thought he really had the goods

But then, considering the stories of military men who rape and kill innocent people, I don't think this is at all the same as some young innocent wide eyed girl. If he were in a bar being accosted by said guy, do you think he would be in a bit better position to handle himself than the wide eyed girl? I certainly do.

  39. Perhaps you guys would know more than me on this subject, but wasn't Calvin Klein married to multiple women, even having a daughter Marci who's a big producer with SNL? Did he come out later in life or is he still in the closet but everyone "knows" he's gay? I'm just wondering when that change happened.
