Bethenny Frankel Asks For Child Support

Bethenny Frankel claims she is worth between $25M and $55M. Her husband, Jason Hoppy is worth way less. So, why on earth would Bethenny be asking for child support and for Jason to pay for a bunch of trivial expenses and life insurance naming Bethenny and their daughter as beneficiaries? If Jason was worth more than Bethenny or even an equal amount then I could see it. It would still be petty if you are worth as much as she claims to be, but I could at least understand it. I don't think Bethenny is worth as much as she thinks without selling a lot of things. Oh, and Bethenny also asked for primary custody of their child. No joint custody at all. As far as I have ever heard, Jason has done nothing which would warrant Bethenny trying to keep their daughter away from Jason. For someone who is so concerned about her image, Bethenny is certainly not showing it with her actions. This is going to turn into a nasty divorce and there are going to be a lot of Bethenny skeletons tossed out on the ground that she won't ever be able to put back in the closet.

  4. @mac, I'm pretty sure all the money she made or at least most of it w skinny girl is protected in the prenup. They'd prob have to split earnings made while married tho.

  6. 1) She's a Scorpio

    2) She's following Ivana's timeless advice: "Dont get mad, get everything!"

  7. Why? She's a woman.

  8. This is greedy. If you don't have kids together and didn't put your husband through school / help with a business, you shouldn't take anything. They have kids, but she is wealthy. Even at today's interest rates, she is wealthy, and she has far more than he.

Women get greedy and vindictive at times.

  9. Legally, child support is owed, regardless of wealth or non-wealth. It's considered money to the child and not to the other spouse. If Jason Hoppy was granted primary custody, for example, Bethany would pay child support to him. His daughter should be his beneficiary on insurance. Putting Bethenny there? Don't know why. If B. Frankel invested in his business(es)/ventures, the insurance policy might be an "in lieu" of full return payment in full for the time being, as a form of security of that payment in the future. Her lawyer may be asking for all in order to negotiate downward, and this means nothing and is routine. Or she's wants war and is greedy? I'm not a lawyer, and don't know the details of the situation, so can't know.

    1. I am shocked that people are shocked by this. No matter how much money either party has, the child is still his. Because one parent has more money, the other doesn't have to support the child? Creating sensationalism around this just gives people an excuse to say divorce makes women vindictive and greedy.

  10. I just find this odd and unnecessary. She's really gone over the top. You never know what goes on behind closed doors but he really came off as a pleasant sort of guy.

  11. I think she's more like her mother than she's willing to admit.

  12. not that it's relevant, but i don't think jason's a great guy. i saw him as passive aggressive. and what the hell does he DO anyway??

  13. I've never seen these people on TV before, but regardless of wealth, the father HAS to help raise his child monetary wise. It's the law.

    ReplyDelete
  14. The child is his so he is legally required to pay child support, regardless of how much either party makes. As for the life insurance, that is standard practice until the child is 18 or 22, if they go to college full time.

  15. Tuxedo, women aren't the only ones who get greedy.

BTAIM, Is anyone surprised that she's acting like this? Anyone?

    Didn't think so.

  17. IT'S HIS CHILD! Child support is about doing right financially for your offspring. NOT about whether you can afford to pay it or whether the custodial parent can afford to do without it. He has a child and he needs to pay for it! Did I really just read "why is he being asked for child support?"

    Shame on you Enty

    1. Amen! Why is it so unbelievable he would have to pay for his child? People are equally as quick to comment when a man or woman is a dead beat parent.

  18. @lc - On her show, the cameras would be in her therapy sessions and she'd talk about her self-centered, irresponsible mom who only cared about herself and let her fend for herself, blah blah blah. From what I've seen on RHONY & her own show, the world seems to revolve around Bethenney and dare anyone to get in the way.

    4. Diane, I understand what you are saying. If I am correct in my interpretation, Diane is saying those who rush down the aisle because of a pregnancy often end up breaking up. Those who were going to tie the knot anyway, or who choose to do so down the track have a much better chance from what I have observed.

    5. Correction, I just re-read Diane's comment. There is no magic formula to a happy relationship. I don't care how people form their family. Whatever makes people happy, & hopefully keeps a loving home in whatever permutation that occurs, I am all for. Marriage is no guarantee.

  20. Body or face? Looks like Bethenny chose neither one.

  21. This comes as absolutely no surprise to me. Never could stand the woman. She's all about Bethany and that pretty much tells you all you need to know about her. There's a lesson here for any man foolish enough to consider actually getting serious about her in the future.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Wasn't it confirmed a while ago that she was lying about her income?
And yes child support is about the child not the parent but an outdated notion of custody law where the mother gets full custody and therefore the check isn't necessarily the best outcome.

    ReplyDelete
  23. @H, I kind of thought the same thing, but I'll give @Diane the benefit of the doubt and assume she meant that marriages are generally better when people choose to get married because they love each other without any outside forces (like a baby on the way) influencing them.

    ReplyDelete
  24. That baby is as much his as it is hers. They should both pay for it. He should be ashamed that she is having to take him to court!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Oh, she's a woman who has the nerve to seek child support from her child's FATHER, so let's call her skinny, ugly and old! By no means am I a fan of hers, but seriously...she's entitled to child support.

    ReplyDelete
  26. @Jodie, snap out of it. Bethany filed for this divorce, not him, and she included those terms in that petition. Her trying to gain primary custody instead of joint custody while asking him to pay for everything is a big shame on her greedy ass.

  29. Uhh give that child support to me! I'm in some hot water with my apt right now because even though I am moving out in a week, they want me to pay $4000 by 5pm to cover the rent from now til August.

Bethanny is so greedy. It is definitely the responsibility of both parents to take care of a child, but it is definitely shady and greedy when you sell your brand for $120mil and demand your husband pays you when you wreck your marriage.

Jason did always seem really grounded, down to earth, caring and respectful. You never know what goes on behind close doors, but judging by what I saw on the show, the failure is all on Bethanny's shoulders.

She was always so abrasive, impatient, and just rude. No way to treat your husband and father of your cute little baby.

    1. @Jsierra - they are yanking your chain. The most you would be on the hook for is rent for the time the apartment sits empty before it is rented again. You will probably never see your deposit again (apt managers can be vindictive) but tell them to go fuck themselves on the balance of your lease.

  30. I'm for BOTH parents paying their fair share, both financially and being involved in the kid's upbringing...but this is cray cray.

She should settle for a realistic child support amount and drop the rest.

Still, I'm not surprised she did this. She's been married twice; neither marriage lasted more than 2 years; and she was single for how long? Who can put up with her?

    ReplyDelete
  31. If she has more money than he, then no, he should NOT be required to pay child support. Child support is to ensure that the child's needs are met. Child's needs are met. If he got primary custody and had more money would you all be demanding that shey pay him support? Didn't think so.

  32. I have no problem with a life insurance policy for his daughter.

OTOH Jason seems like a doting
father , so to ask for sole custody paints Bethanny as a despicable bitch. She'll never get sole custody, so why put out this kind of image when you are a media personality?

  34. It's not that she is asking for child support that I find so vile but that she wants her ex to pay for medical, dental, optical, therapy and orthodontic expenses for HERSELF. I can understand splitting the cost for those things for their child but she wants Jason to pay for her too. I find that greedy.

BTW, long time lurker, first time poster.

Wait...she seriously let a national audience watch her therapy session? I'm amazed a therapist would agree to that. I can't believe she agreed to that! The idea sounds so incredibly invasive, exponentially more so than a normal reality show. :O

  36. No judge in their right mind will grant her sole custody. He's an attentive, loving father with great parents who have been begging to be in Bryn's life. Before her talk show (how does someone so unlikeable get a talk show? Thanks Ellen.) and the new rich man in her life (according to Ent's BI) she complained how she barely had time to spend with her daughter. Also, Jason should get a chunk of her money. On her show it looked like he was a big part of coordinating distribution and getting that Jim Bean deal. She used her "wife, mother, entrepreneur" lifestyle to promo that talk show, knowing she had been cheating and didn't want him anymore. So much in common w/ K Kartrashian its stunning. Like VIP said - Scorpio.

  37. If there is a huge discrepancy in their incomes, it is possible that she could get Primary Physical Custody and still have to pay her ex child support, so he could provide a home close to what the child is accustomed to when he has parenting time.

  41. One never really knows what goes on behind closed doors. I agree though if she has more wealth than him she should forego a request for child support. Who knows, he may be asking for alimony himself and this is a way to make both back down.

Don't know her so cannot make a judgement but no one seems to find her particularly warm or cuddly. Take that for what you will.

  42. What Enty failed to mention is that besides requesting child support and an insurance policy in BOTH she and Bryns name, she is also requesting health insurance, vision, & mental health coverage be provided by him for both SHE and Bryn. WTF does he need to pay for Bethannys insurance? Bitch is vindictive.

  43. Anonymous9:46 AM

Is she one of the skeletons? Because I don't see how she's going to be able to get up off the ground. what a super bitch. going after a nice guy for cash when you're loaded, that's rich. A rich bitch, with solid gold cajones. And that face! the nose all carved up and collapsing, the lopsided eyes, she's going to be such a delicate flower in another ten or twenty years. Use your position and p.r to make yourself look good while people are still paying attention to your boring, bony, vapid, self absorbed, obnoxious, self centered ass. Bitch!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Yeah, I could totally see him demanding alimony, though.

    ReplyDelete
  45. It sounds like a serious high-pressure tactic to get him to settle fast (isn't she supposedly already seeing a billionaire and wants to marry him?) and keep this out of NY courts. I hope he's got lawyers and countersues for support from her.

    ReplyDelete
  46. But yes, Enty also is correct in that she's actually risking a hell of lot of corporate goodwill with this. I'm sure any business connected to her name right now is praying this doesn't tarnish her reputation and thus their brand and/or that some ugly ugly things about her aren't going to come out. Very risky move on her part to go full-out war like this.

  47. Why are we making this about all women being greedy, Bethany is by no means a representation of half the on the planet

    ReplyDelete
  48. 1. She's a hustler, hard worker, business savvy brand building machine. Everything comes back to the brand. She's also egotistical enough to call something like this a "business-decision" and compartmentalize it away for a therapy session.
    2. She's a little crazy, let's not for get that. She is very much like her mother and it's starting to show.
This makes me sad. I do like her, maybe a little less now. Relationships are fucking complicated and every one is different. BTW- why is the fact that she's a scorpio a direct correlation to her being a bitch?

    ReplyDelete
  49. why wouldn't there be joint custody? He's not an abuser or an addict, etc. Baby needs her daddy. And why the hell should he pay for Bethany's medical etc expenses? That's messed up. She's just plain cray-cray. She and Halle can have drinks together and be crazy together, they sound like a perfect pair of narcissistic bitches.

Oh well, get out the popcorn - it's gonna get interesting!

Family law is designed to play out this way, This is normally what a lawyer will tell either both the mother or father to petition for.
    1. Lawyers stay in business by making divorces and custody issues acrimonious. They want the two parties to fight and want numerous modifications to the custody/alimony agreement through the years so they make more money.
2.Net worth is not necessarily liquid assests
    3. No one knows what life will look like in 20 years it is important to plan and rule for the fact that she may not be famous or rich in 10 years and yeah...will still be entitled to child support.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I heard they only signed their prenup three days before the wedding, not the required five days and it could be void/contested by Jason. Some people said she was also starting with outrageous demands to use as bargaining chips later in the proceedings.
Her demands are just insane. I know she wants to protect her child- I understand. In my opinion, her demands are setting out to make Jason miserable. Forever paying HER insurance, medical, dental, and leaving life insurance. Cut ties that don't involve your child and let him have the opportunity to move on.
