Blind Item #6
This A+ list all movie actress was asked to appear at an event. For charity. A well established charity. The actress said she would be happy to but wanted $250K for her appearance plus another $50K worth of stuff and only promised to be there for 30 minutes. She said her time is valuable and that no matter the cause, her time was more important. The charity declined and then found five other actors and actresses who were huge hits at the event and did it all for free.

@JSierra, I don't think it's about the money most of the time with these folks. It's about jerking people around and feeling powerful for no good reason.

I have no guess, but I hope this is revealed. This sort of selfishness deserves to be uncovered.

Not Angelina. She does a huge amount of charity activity. Including a lot that doesn't get attention.

Sounds like an asshole either way.
I'm going against popular opinion, but I understand the actress: Perhaps she is fed up of going on promotions, publicity stunts and that things and she wants to have time for herself, away from fan who can be a pain in the ass (I live in a small town and I usually would like to be unknown and not to have to speak to everybody, so I am, in a very small way, as a famous person as anybody who lives in a little village and knows everyone there).

Not Jolie, she's incredibly generous with time and money.

But this actress didn't just say, "I won't be able to attend, thanks for thinking of me." She demanded an obscene amount of money for 30 minutes of her time. That's why she looks bad.

If you believe all the CDAN numbered BI's, every last one of them spends every waking moment being an abusive or unfaithful bitch. And that's not accounting for the time they actually spend working. It is literally impossible for all these BI's to be true.

Kind of like Mimi that is the biggest effing diva around but after that reveal about her doing all of those charitable and kind things and never wanting publicity for it, she'll pretty much always receive a pass from me!

I know we hate a LOT on the Piv (and justly so if even half of the stories are true), but I did love him on Entourage - I can't even think about Gwyneth without remembering an awesome line he had that went something like "anybody who puts Gwyneth's head in a box is okay with me", when speaking of, I think, the director of Se7en.
I mean you can't really argue with that logic, now can you?

ReplyDeleteI get so angry when I hear about celebrities trying to take money to promote a charity. That goes against the entire idea of charity. "Sure, I'll help you raise money if you give me a bunch of money to do it!" ???!! That would be bad enough coming from your average person, but coming from a millionaire it's really messed up. Thank goodness the charity declined. I've heard of charities that actually bow to these idiots' demands and pay them to show up.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't believe this Angelina-say what you want about her as a person but charity-wise she is very generous and she has given much of her own money to charity. I would also count out Drew Barrymore because she's been known to donate her own $$$ (although she might not be A+, but she has A+ name recognition maybe? The Barrymores are very famous.)
Wouldn't be surprised at all to find this is either Julia Roberts or Goop. Julia is known to be cheap as hell and will argue with salespeople to try and get a discount when she shops; Goop is spoiled and has no clue about the value of money and I could see her having the attitude of, "Oh my God, it's only $250 thousand, big deal, that's, like, not even enough for a house, who cares?"
That's how charities make a lotta money by presenting (hiring) celebs an humanitarian award for some charity banquet and charging X amount dollars a ticket for those who want to attend or have a meet n' greet with the celeb afterwards.

ReplyDeleteI like the Julia Roberts guesses. I can't think of anyone else who'd qualify, and I'd rule out Gwynneth on that alone, since I can't remember the last time she carried/headed an A-List movie.
Worst part is if true, this woman probably makes 10M-plus per picture. 250k is probably what she spends on shoes and purses in a month. To a charity, it's huge.

If this is true, I wonder how often and how much celebs actually do get paid to do these charity gigs? And trying to play devil's advocate here, at least for women, they have to buy (or get loaned) a new dress for each gig, plus make up and hair people etc. So I guess it does cost them money, which can add up if they go to each and every charity event they are asked to. I can see getting tired of it and just expecting to damn well get paid to do it.

And five celebrities? Maybe a band or cast of a show/movie? Have the Backstreet Boys or New Kids on the Block done any charity appearances lately? Both are reunited and planning to tour.
I don't think this is Kidman. Lainey has said she's one of the few celebrities who pay for all their own stuff and never ask for freebies.

She has a contract with Avon, so she might want to demand money to appear at a different charity event (Avon sponsors breast cancer events which usually take place in October).

Hmm when Tara mentioned the possibility of the 5 celebrities being cast members, I immediately thought of Mad Men. Seems like the cast does a lot of charity events. They hosted the UCLA Medical Center's Rape Treatment Center http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052970204226204576601112582344604.html, and John Hamm and Jennifer Westfeldt do a lot with St. Jude.

People like Jolie, for all her weird faults could care less about that, she does care about charitable causes. The person in this blind was making one of those 'green M&M's only in my dressing room' type of demands to prove their star power. Glad they got called on it.
