No One Wants A Melissa Joan Hart Movie

It seems that every celebrity has tried their hand at Kickstarter recently. I'm not sure why, if you are someone like Zach Braff and you made almost $1M a week as an actor that you need to go to Kickstarter to raise $2M for your movie, but he did and he got his money almost instantly. I understand the Veronica Mars people going the Kickstarter route because they had a vision and didn't want to compromise that vision which is what they would have to do if they had taken studio money.

Melisaa Joan Hart also has had a Kickstarter project. You probably had not heard of it before. It has been languishing on the site for three months while she tried to raise $2M so she could star as the lead in a movie for the first time since Drive Me Crazy which had a great soundtrack and a song by Britney Spears, but was not exactly a cinematic masterpiece. Melissa promised she would be great at it, but only managed to raise $51K in the time the campaign was active. She pulled the plug on it yesterday.

  1. I can't stand to watch her try to be 'cute' anymore. I enjoyed the early StTW episodes, but she was just completely annoying by the end.

  2. Not that she can help it, but her wonk eye distracts me and I've always found her personality unappealing

  3. Not a fan of hers, but that has to hurt.

  4. I feel like Zach Braff is getting a lot of flack for this when the "Veronica Mars" people aren't. I understand the VMers didn't want to be stuck with a studio's vision, but why couldn't Kristin Bell help fund it? She's had a lot more going on career-wise than Zach Braff in recent years.

  5. She let her political agenda show and she drove off a good lot of her fan base I believe.

  6. I wasn't surprised. Hart was ill-advised to try the Kickstarter route to begin with. But then, IMHO, she's always had a much higher opinion of her skills than anyone else has had.

  7. Kickstarter is free market at work. If the people want it, they'll pay for it. If they don't, they won't.

Jerry Jones is a billionaire who could have but didn't use his own money to build Cowboys Stadium, he got the Dallas taxpayers to do it. Business is run this way all the time.

Two very successful multi millionaire game designers I know funded their two new video games on Kickstarter. One of them pulled in over $2 million and he could have use his own money for that project, easily.

I don't get the hate that some of these people have for this process (not on this board, on other sites I've read). If people want it, they'll pay for it.

And, you do get stuff for your investment....well, that is if the people who are asking for the money are good business people.
I suppose they could gyp you out of your donation, but in those cases, I always feel that you should contribute whatever you're willing to lose, incase you never see the product.

  8. @Tempestous, what political views? I missed that but I agree, actors should keep their political views private. Very few that I would even care to listen to their opinions.

  9. I don't care who you are, the film description reads like a "paint by numbers".

Didn't Jennifer Aniston already make this movie? All that's missing is Judy Greer as the sassy best friend.

  10. I disagree with the whole 'you don't get anything for it' argument. If I get new music from my favorite band or a new movie with my favorite characters, that's money very well spent.

I was one of the people who gave money to Enty during his short-lived fundraiser a couple of years ago, and I consider that money well spent, too. This site has allowed me to waste time very pleasurably.

    1. I have been reading this site for a number of years, so your comment reminded me of
a reader who continually kept asking for his money back which he donated to CRDN. I think readers were asked to donate for a radio program but the project didn't take off. Long time readers would know, I'm curious at what happened ??

  11. Couldn't you check imdb before posting an article? Nine Dead was out 11 years after Drive Me Crazy. It had plot holes but was a decent movie.

  12. I don't think it's true that no one wants a Melissa Joan Hart movie. Nobody wants that Melissa Joan Hart movie. If she made one Farrah Abraham style, I'd download it! I wouldn't pay for it, mind...

  13. She's never been all that in any department--looks or talent--so this is hardly surprising. Talk about D- List.

    2. @Tempestous, thanks, I completely forgot about that, I guess most of us want to forget those elections, too much ugliness on both sides.

  17. First rule of business never use your own money.

I happily paid the 35 bucks for the VM movie. My money my choice.

  18. I love Drive Me Crazy. It's on HBO Comedy right now. Give it another chance Enty.

  19. I wouldn't want an MJH movie either.

  20. Melissa explains it all . . . and no one wants it. :)

  21. I would love love to see a Sabrina the teenage witch movie but mainly to see what happened to the other charcters

  22. Maybe the studios are making them try to raise money on Kickstarter to test the waters. If they make their goal, the studio will pick it up.

  23. A guy I knew in college was dating MJH my freshman year and MJH would come visit him regularly and stay at the dorm. She was a total bitch and not cute at all: frumpy and miserable looking. I remember that she was missing someone of her teeth (I later read she was born without them and she wouldn't wear the implant all the time). She thought she was too good for everyone at a regular college as she was Clarissa. She would not even muster a weak hello to a female she was introduced to but would hold court to what she imagined were her adoring male fans.
Her BF had a Ren and Stimpy print on the wall of his dorm room since she gave him it as a gift as she worked for Nickelodeon.
    This post makes me chuckle.

  24. She needs to figure out that it's time to grow up and reinvent her persona if she wants to revive her career. If I were her manager I'd advise her to go try a small and totally different role in a good indie film or two or three, and while she was there to be humble, be nice to everyone, and work work hard. I agree with the posters who advised staying out of politics, as well.

  25. It's a sad world when someone is disliked, just because of their political beliefs. It was a free country at one point, not anymore unfortunately. People are actually threatened for expressing their beliefs and opinions, if you don't agree with the majority. That's a form of bullying. So sad.

  26. She is a crazy, mean person. I've mentioned it before, but she went off on Chris Daughtry saying he stole her husband's song by saying he wrote it. She then said Daughtry changed some lyrics and made the song "gay". Don't want anything to do with her anymore.

  27. @Erin, Kristen did contribute some of the Veronica Mars kickstarter money, but she's not exactly Julia Roberts so she couldn't contribute all of it. Other than Amanda Seyfried, none of the former VM actors have had a stellar career since the show ended.

Something abt her , gives me BITCH vibe
    she got bitch lips
    beedy eyes
i LOVED clarissa, than she grew up to be stank

  29. I too loved the heck out of her in Clarissa and Sabrina. But after those shows were over she seemed to have becomed a fame whore on a Kardashian level. The item on here about her throwing a fit over Farrah Fawcett dying because it knocked her off of the cover of People magazine that same week confirmed this.

  30. And the personal stories written here confirms her mean behavior even further! The current state of her career is probably because of her bad attitude.

  31. People are threatening the girl who took care of Bieber's hamster (or whatever it was). Bigotry, last time I checked, isn't a political belief.

It is a free country, and we have the freedom to give a-holes their due. MJH is a bigot, but you needn't feel sorry for her. 15k Palinettes signed up to follow the tweet.

  32. She is a racist bitch. Not surprised people don't want to associate with her.
