Steve Nash Really Doesn't Want To Pay Child Support

The Steve Nash case is in the hands of a judge in Arizona now. For the past couple of weeks, there has been a trial to determine whether the ex-wife of Steve Nash can move to California with their three children. Steve does not want them too. He said that he would not see them any more than he sees them now and that Los Angeles is a terrible place to raise kids. Nice of you to say that about the city that pays you millions of dollars. That is what this all comes down to. Steve says the only reason his ex wants to move to California is so she can get child support from Steve and continue to live a lavish life style which he does not want for her or his kids. In their divorce, Steve paid his ex the lump sum of $5M. He pays no child support and would like to keep it that way. If his ex moved right next door to Steve, how would he not see them more?

  2. Beautiful family. I dont know the whole story but he comes off bad here. Why no child support in Arizona confuses me the most. Every parent should be required to share the financial responsibilities of their children, whether he paid a lump sum of alimony or not. He just sounds like a douce.

  3. Wow. Guy used to have a reputation for being just about the nicest one in the NBA.

  4. Ditto @Rhino - never heard of him, Googled and still non the wiser. Never heard of his wife, who DOES look like Minnie Driver. Can't find any sympathy for either, though - she got $5 million, I'm sure I'd be able to feed and clothe a couple of kids on that. He, on the other hand, doesn't want his kids living near him - sounds like a real prince.

    Overprivileged and stupid.

  7. He is one of the best basketball players in the last 20 years, but he is a cunt.

steve nash is the typical liberal hypocrite: He wants all the (other) taxpayers' money to be spent in other people, but he doesn't even pay the alimony for his wife and his own children.
His thought: Solidarity is only worthy when others are and I am not.
    What a colossal jerk.

  8. Really, Yo? You had to bring politics into a douche not paying child support?? Anyone can be a selfish prick--politics be damned!

  9. I feel for those poor children. He's a jerk and she's pulling something. The story.

    @YoMismo,

"Typical liberal hypocrite"? I don't see any mention in the story of his political leanings.

  10. Asshole. These are his kids, and he's giving them a pittance compared to his overall income. Men like this are pitiful and should be shamed in our society, but instead, society, for the most part, heaps blame upon the woman.

  11. How can you say he pays no support, when the broad got a lump sum?

How can she get support in Cali, if the marriage and custody order were in Arizona? You don't even have to be a lawyer to figure that one out. New writer's mind must be clouded with estrogen instead of bacon.

  13. The Nashes settled their divorce; there are no alimony payments, and in AZ, there's no child support. So because he isn't giving her a check on the regular, he's selfish. There's no mention of what Steve does do to support his kids: pays for school, all medical, clothes, toys, etc. He's Canadian for fucks sake--he knows better. The kids are well-taken care of--she needs to get a job.
Or find another NBA player--it worked for Gabby Union.

  14. There are plenty of hypocrites out there - liberal and conservative.

What I don't get is child support is for the children, not the wife! If he has an issue with how she would spend the money, couldn't he write stipulations into the parenting plan? Ugh...just ugh

  15. I don't get the objections. The father pays for private education and health insurance and settled on the mother a lump sum of FIVE MILLION dollars. And in two more years, plans to return to their current state of residence, Arizona. So why the need to move the kiddies to California for two seasons of B-Ball. It is just a transparent money grab by dear Mommy.

  16. Nash IS one of nicest ball players. The wife is looking for a paycheck. He already pays for schools, healthcare etc. she want a regular paycheck. FYI, they split after SHE cheated on him with another Suns player (Barbosa?). So save your "what an ass this guy is", she's definitely no better.

  17. @Yo, lulz. Gold star for effort I guess.

  18. Think of all the money she's saving from not having to buy double bags in preparation for 'make sex' time with him :(

  19. He is the biggest sleaze ball ever! I've witnessed it with my own eyes. He picked up my friend at a club in Vancouver, wanted to take her back to his hotel and when she wouldn't go home with him, he moved on to the next woman who would. This was while he was married! Real nice guy!! Why the hell wouldn't he pay child support anyways? If he wanted to not give her any money, wouldn't a lump sum payment up front be the worst way to go about it? How does he know she is going to use it to support the children for the next 18 plus years? Seems like if he really gave a shit about his kids he would be paying child support, not just paying her off essentially.

    1. He pays for everything. She's exploiting them. And why would someone take a lump sum up front? Ask a lottery winner

  20. His kids also have a roof over their heads and they know their utilities are paid, paid for by Steve, because THAT'S what he's supposed to do--he's their dad! He's Canadian for fucks sake!

  21. She got 5 MILLION DOLLARS and a house and he pays ALL THE CHILDREN'S EXPENSES. But she stupidly wrote in an email, that she plans to move to California, wait 6 months for residency and then go to court for child support.

    They are both a$$holes.

  22. @hot, I'm not passing judgment on Nash. This is, though, hurting his good-guy reputation, fair or not. Steve Nash involved in an ugly child support fight is a headline that goes against his profile and that's all most people will know of the story - the lede.

    ReplyDelete
  23. A couple people reference that because he's Canadian that means he is taking care of them. I'm not being snarky, I'm curious why that factors in? What are the laws in Canada? I always liked Steve Nash professionally. Why is there no child support in Arizona? I would think deadbeat dads would flock to that state.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I can't believe there is no child support in az. That happened to a family member of mine out there but somehow she sued her child's father and he ended up having to pay for her sons college with the child support she should have gotten. I don't know the details though.

  26. I don't understand the comments of people saying, "She got 5 million lump sum, she should be thankful." Huh?! Yeah, she got the 5 million in the dissolution of marriage...for her parting gift. Not the children's. Many millionaires and billionaires pay child support! Look at Salma Hayek's husband...he pays Linda Evangelista for the son they had together, and he's a BILIONAIRE. Steve is their father, he should pay child support. Period. Using the, "My wife has enough money..." argument doesn't fly.

    1. Why is she entitled to a "parting gift"

  27. He was very well liked and a good guy while he was here in Dallas. I agree this is hurting his reputation but this whole "he's not willing to pay for his kids" is wrong. He pays for the kids necessities, he just doesn't trust her to use a monthly sum on the kids. He was married to her so I think he knows her better than anyone else.

Btw, I follow him on twitter he has his kids ALOT, posts pics of th all the time. I wonder what she's doing when she doesn't have the kids? Looking another ball player probably.

  28. Umm just wanted to say the whole rumor abt her cheating on him with Jason Richardson was a lie. He dumped her the day the baby was born to be with his young gf who happened to be black and somehow that got turned around to her having a black baby and it being his teammates. She released this picture a few months later to prove it was a lie without addressing it. And he's coming off as a major ass in my opinion. The kids are young, I think two years of missing out would be a big deal, and cost of living in Cali is so much more expensive than Az it's not like shed be living the high life. It'd prob be really comparable to how she lives now.

  29. @Af281561 - Canadian Child Support Laws.
If you fall behind, even by 1 day:
    - you get fined $25/month. (This really adds up.)
    - your drivers license is suspended after 60 days
    - your wages get garnished, doesnt matter if you make $100 or $1000, they will take approx 60% of your income until you are paid in full
    - I am proud to say that my hubby & I paid ON TIME with ever single child support payment for over 15 years for his 2 children. We even received a letter from the Gov't thanking my hubby in fullfiling his duties. We even got a print out of our entire account (15 yrs) so we can show his children (someday) that he NEVER missed a payment eventho their mother said differently

    1. Wow. That's awesome law wise and what you two did. It sucks that she is allowed to speak ill of you two. I thought in custody cases one parent speaking negatively about the other was a no no. But I'm sure it happens all the time ( side eyeing LeAnn and Bodie Miller). I wish we had those laws here!

  31. He plans to play for one more year in LA, retire, and move back to AZ. Why uproot the kids for one year?

He's not being unreasonable. He's with the kids quite a bit, based on his twitter account.

Plus, he pays for their school and other expenses already. Why funnel the money for the kids through the ex-wife?

    ReplyDelete
  32. He said she said. I'm glad this tarnishes his "good guy" reputation. He clearly doesn't deserve it.

Shame on AZ for so many things, including this no child support BS.

Whether or not the mommy is a money-grubbing trick, the bottom line is that the laws on child support are there to protect the children and their primary caretaker, usually the mother.

Like Maximus said, it only makes it harder for those truly in need.

  33. First the city of LA pays him nothing. Second, CA is a terrible place to raise kids-wealthy or not. Third, athletes live very ungrounded lives. They are almost never actually at "home." By that I mean. I would bet Steve has a home in AZ, where he would see his kids, but rents or owns a condo in LA. Fourth, no man in his right mind would want to pay child support in CA. The laws and judges are insane there. Fifth, why exactly does the mother want to uproot the children for LA? for 41 home games and 50 or so practices?

  37. Geez, don't blame AZ for this!!! There is child support in AZ (duh), but in their divorce decree SHE AGREED TO NO CHILD SUPPORT. She got the $5M lump sum, plus he pays for the kids private school tuition (in AZ), and their healthcare.

I'm not saying Steve is a total gem, but she's clearly out to work the system, and CA courts don't care about AZ courts/law/divorce decrees, so if she moves, she can suck him dry via the CA court system.

Sorry, but if your kids schooling and health care are paid for, $5M is more than enough to provide for them (and yourself!) for the rest of your lives with some smart investments and a little budgeting.

    ReplyDelete
  38. In the current court proceedings, an email was produced in which she stated a desire to move to Cali and then sue for child support 6 months later. So he can be in Cali for 18 months and then have to pay child support for 18 years.

Ent is being a little perez here.

  39. Every breeder should be able to care for their kids on their own. Most marriages fail. People die FFS. People go bankrupt. Breeding seems to be a windfall for lawyers these days. Something needs to change so children can have a good life instead of being born for a paycheck. Lookin' at you Octomom and your massive breeding fail!!

  41. @Katie, she's not entitled to a parting gift. He gave her that money to get her out of his house and life. He no longer wanted to be married to her. That was his decision. He shouldn't be allowed to say, "I gave you 5 million, now go spend it this way..." That's what I meant.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Maybe Steve just does not want his children to be spoiled brats? He does a lot for charities that benefit children who live in poverty. A person with that kind of mindset usually doesn't want his own children to grow up as snobs whining for Mommy and Daddy to buy them more designer clothing. That could be why he is not happy with the idea of paying his wife more money.

If that's the case, I don't blame him at all for any of this. If I had money, I would not want my kids to grow up like Gwyneth Paltrow or Kate Hudson, looking down their noses at people who have less.

That said, I do hate rich people who are extremely cheap. And maybe Steve is just cheap. I don't know.

  43. Just to clear it up for those who lack reading comprehension. AZ MANDATES child support in EVERY CASE. That means every case has child support attached. You cant actually go through custody without someone paying child support. One party pays no matter what.

So stop with all the AZ blame. Stop with the Nash blame. He just paid her a lump sum instead of making payments.

Hes basically paying her $23,000 a month for 3 kids, except he paid it upfront and she gets to collect the interest on that money while it sits in her account.

Now tell me again how he doesnt pay.

  50. A few years ago I heard a story about Nash - that he had been asked to speak to a group of underprivileged kids, and his reply was, "Sure - for $10K." The guy who asked him was stunned - he honestly thought Nash was an upright, generous guy.

Uh, no. He's a total douche. That "aw-shucks-I'm-just-a-poor-ole-Canadian-boy" persona is just that - a persona. He could give Reese Witherspoon a run for her money on that score.

  52. This is the first time I can actually post since I went to college with Nash and graduated the same year. He keeps in touch with his college friends and is a good guy. Not very smart, but a good guy.

His dad was a professional athlete so he had money, but still lived in the dorms when he didn't need to. He was grounded that way and wants the same for his kids.

The third kid is not his and he went through that entire pregnancy excited for another child only to find out after the birth it was not his. That crushed him.

He's crazy about his kids, the ex-wife not so much.
