In honor of Australia Day, I thought I would make this blind item Australian. This actress is formerly A list, but now a good solid B. Back in the day when she got her role that made her internationally famous she got the role by sleeping with not just the casting director, but also this rounadabout Australian who was a friend of the director and was already bored with his wife. A further clue is this actress got naked in the movie for which she was cast.

DeleteBTW this is very common knowledge here about 'Our Nic' the only movie she had done prior to this was the hilarious BMX Bandits and she was struggling to break through. Good on her, she's not the first to do it and she sure won't be the last!

Dead Calm (1989) was the movie that brought her to America. Great movie by the way and she does have a naked sex scene. I don't know if the roundabout Aussie would be her co-star Sam Neill - born in UK, raised in NZ but became famous in Aussie movies before going international.

ReplyDeleteCasting director was Wallis Niciti who cast a lot of cool movies including Witches Of Eastwick. Director was Philip Noyce.

ReplyDeleteWallis married Rick Nicita who was Al Pacino's agent whom Pacino thanked when he won his Oscar in 1993. Enty claims to have known Al Pacino. Then Enty would be aware of Al's agent and who Rick was married to.

Texas Rose - the film was a three hander with Billy Zane, so she had more than one co-star per se. After further investigation I'm going to clear Sam Neill because IMDB says he met his wife on the Dead Calm set, she was a make-up artist, and therefore would not have been married at the time. The only other roundabout Aussie I can think of is Mel Gibson (born in USA, raised in Australia). The director of Dead Calm, Phillip Noyce, was supposed to direct Attack Force Z (1982) starring Mel but got fired, apparently over casting choices, just before that film started shoting. So he would know Mel and, since the later was married in 1980, he would have had time to become bored with marriage by 1989. I don't know if it is Mel but frankly my knowledge of roundabout Aussies is limited.

DeleteJason Blue Eyes - I saw it a few weeks ago and there is absolutely no nudity in BMX Bandits. Nor would I expect any since Nicole Kidman was 16 years old at the time.

ReplyDeleteThe movie that made her a star rather than an ingenue was "To Die For". Her reviews were terrific & she no longer had to settle for the pretty armpiece parts after that.

ReplyDeletevee - what sugarbread said - the baby was supposed to be ewan mcgregor's and she miscarried when TC filed for divorce. Her being preggers was supposed to be what he meant when he said "she knows what she did" regarding why they were getting divorced.

DeleteI think Mel is the roundabouter as well. I had a massive crush on Kidman in those days! She was so hot in To Die For and DC. I miss her days of being a ho. Oh, and that shitty Far and Away movie. She and Tommy Girl looked spectacular in that mess.
