Seattle Police And The Kurt Cobain Investigation

With the 20th anniversary of Kurt Cobain's death approaching the Seattle police say they are just preparing themselves for the onslaught of questions and interest in the death of the rock legend. This, they say is why they have started looking at the case again. After a Seattle news station reported that the police were re-opening the investigation Courtney Love went into panic mode and stopped looking for MH370 long enough to make sure she still had her story straight. The news report says that police recently developed four rolls of film from the scene that had just been discovered. There was no information about whether the film provided any new evidence or clues and it probably won't because there were a whole lot of police and detectives swarming all over the scene when it happened. I remember watching MTV that day. They still showed music at the time and the little crawl just came across the screen and then you had to wait because there was no such thing really as the internet to jump on and take a look at news reports. Everyone had to patiently wait for Kurt Loder to finish chain smoking a pack of cigarettes and come on the air and give us a report about the shooting. If there had been the same kind of access then as there was now I wonder what the furor would have been like.

  2. This is just stupid and a waste of resources.
Did Courtney probably help drive him to want to get off the planet? Magic 8 ball says yes.
Did he do it himself? Yes.

    1. Add a 'did she possibly find him first and frack with the crime scene' and I'm with you, @Bacon.

And I mean *possibly* - not doing some passive aggressive 'ooh really' bollocks.

  3. Four rolls of film is a lot to miss the first time. I hope that's BS.

  4. I thought I read this morning after looking at this film they confirmed he committed suicide (AP news story).

  5. Weird. I read they weren't re-opening the case.

  6. Oh, Christ.
I didn't give a shit when it happened
I dnt give a shit now.

  7. He was an addict who couldn't beat his habit and the only alternative he felt, was death. It is actually quite common among hard core addicts sadly.

    1. Oh really. Is this your uneducated opinion. Otherwise back up your "claim"

    2. That's not an uneducated opinion! You need to do a little research yourself before trolling the Internet trying to start crap!
I had a friend who killed himself because he was so addicted to pills and didn't see a way out! It's a lot more common than your uneducated self thinks!

Uh oh. Addicts. Suicide. Bat call?...

  9. I thought that police needed proof of foul play in order to re-open a case like this. If they are re-opening it, there must have been an open case in the first place, and a great deal of suspicion initially. BTW that is a great photo of Kurt.

  10. Considering that he almost died in Italy less than two weeks before he was found dead in Seattle, I think that is a fairly accurate indicator that Kurt was not a happy man. He didn't like fame, and he couldn't kick his habit. It is sad that he lost the battle with his demons, but he isn't the first and most certainly won't be the last talented person to die before his time.

  11. I'm a bit (20 years) behind on this story - is there some theory that she shot him?

    1. Supposedly Court paid a dude, El Diablo (?) Like $500,000 & a shit ton of heroin to kill him, but make it look like a suicide.
He o'd shortly after Kurt, so that was another conspiracy rumour.
They talked about it in the Kurt & Courtney documentary.

  12. Just reread his suicide note today, as part of a story that showed a couple of the newly developed pictures, which were basically just crime scene shots.

The suicide note tells about how he's lost the joy of performing, how he wishes he could be like Freddie Mercury and love being onstage.

I actually saw one of his final shows, at Roseland Ballroom in Manhattan, the day after (or maybe before?) the Unplugged performance. He was very quiet and gentlemanly, but not particularly energetic.

    1. I saw him in I think the December before in Houston. It was a great show but I agree with the lack of energy.

  13. There is, Violet, but it's silly imo.

  14. Violet, there was talk that Courtney hired someone to kill him (she was out of town at the time of his death).
Then her nutso dad tried to sell a book about the whole thing.

I think she's crazy but I also think he just ate the gun.

Here is a website from a so called PI 'hired' by Courtney who thinks she had him killed.

    1. I met her dad back in the day (had nothing to do w/ this case or anything related) and he said how his daughter was batshit crazy and that the whole family was afraid of her

  15. At *total* risk of looking far too interested ...

Yep. @Nutty, but it reads far more like a 'dear johnette' to Courtney than anything else.

And the last line being in very different handwriting makes it dodgy.

Put the whole thing in context of Courteney having access to the death scene and wanting to cover a split (which was so on the cards) ... We have a winner!

  16. Let the man rest in peace. Drudging up old stuff helps no one in all of this. Plus more taxpayer dollars will be wasted on these efforts.

  17. That's ridiculous. He committed suicide. The end.

    2. The PI Tom Grant likes to say all of the stuff about him being suicidal comes from Courtney but that's B.S.

When Cobain was like 10, he made a movie on home video he called "Kurt Commits Bloody Suicide". His stepmother, Jenny, recalled it in the book "Heavier Than Heaven" and said she didn't think he was just being a gross 10yo. She said she thought something wasn't right with him and the film back then.

Then there was the friend he told when he was 15 that he was going to become a famous rock star then blow his head off...

There are countless examples like that in his life and history...

  20. Although it would explain why Ol Court has went batshit crazy over the years with guilt eating her up but I truly think the man had demons he couldn't kick and lost his joy. When you're at that point and you feel as if death is your only option, you're pretty unstoppable with carrying out the plan. Let him and his memory be.

  21. I saw a video online yesterday, I think from ABC, which had an interview with one of the detectives.

He said back then, they used to shoot crime scenes with 35mm film and Polaroids. The bosses told them not to bother developing the 35mm film, as they had the Polaroids, so the film was filed away.

Twenty years later they decided to take another look at the case, and came across the film, so they had it developed. The two or three stills they shared were pretty much what was on the Polaroids. But they did notice an open cigar box which had heroin and other drug paraphernalia.

  23. Cobain had mental illness/depression issues, a hardcore drug addiction, and was thrown into a world of fame and money that he had no coping skills for. He saw no way out and committed suicide.

As for Courtneu, she was not the best person but she neither killed him or drove him to do it (I do not believe anyone can truly drive another person to suicide)

They had a dysfunctional, drug-fueled, extremely unhealthy relationship that Cobain contributed and participated in as much as her.

  24. As talented as Cobain was, his suicide was no surprise. I often wondered what Nirvana would be like today if he had survived. I really don't think they would have stayed together, considering that Dave Grohl is a musical talent in his own right and probably would have wanted to do his own thing at some point.
I remember the day he died, I remember hearing it on the radio.

Dave was already working on solo projects when Nirvana was still together. They would've disbanded at one point or another. And thankfully- so Foo Fighters is the shit!

I think they were both screwed up & not good for each...it's common knowledge she was always after whatever guy could get her famous...I've always been doubtful of love when it came to those two...he had physical & mental health issues...she was out for herself

  27. CL needs to head for a remote island to ride this anniversary out. It must be horrible for her, dredging this up year after year. Can't be good for Bean either. Just a sad situation all around.

  29. Seattle police have been very clear, they have released some pictures from the scene but they HAVE NOT re-opened the investigation, and they are not planning to, nor are they "looking" at the case in any way.

    1. Should have mentioned, what they said is, they reviewed the case in anticipation of the questions they would have to answer given the upcoming 20th anniversary. Not re-opening, just ensuring they know everything they need to know to answer the questions, because obviously there would be very few people left working there who actually worked on the case.

  30. Same thing I say every time this comes up... Th (ignorant) people who think Courtney Love had anything to do with Kurt's death clearly have never lost a loved one to suicide.

Which, by the way, I would never wish on anyone.

  31. Don't mind me, I'm just waiting for Headrot to show up.

Yes, the bat call went out for her didn't it Andy.

  33. I would be afraid of her too.
Again, I don't think she had a direct hand in his demise but if it came down to him figuring out which was better (life with Courtney Vs Death) I can understand his decision.

I don't agree with it, but I can understand it.

  34. Agree, sometimes a cigar is just a cigar, he and love had a toxic relationship but i think he committed suicide all by himself. Somewhere in his twisted thinking he thought this was his path.

  35. whaaaaaaaaa, I'm all famous and I never wanted to be.

No sorrow for "addicts" and folks who off themselves. Way to stick it out for your daughter asshole. Look how great her childhood/growing up has been.

  36. The internet was around in 1994, it was just really slow. At the time somebody wanted to e-mail me a crime scene photo that made it onto the net & I had to beg them not to. I love Nirvana & the last thing I want to see is a picture of Cobain dead.

  37. A long-time addict who committed suicide... if he wasn't famous the cops wouldn't have looked at his case for more than ten seconds before declaring it was closed.

    ReplyDelete
  38. @leeky you are actually correct. I just had lunch with a guy who works as an investigator and consultant for the DOJ. New evidence has come out that raised suspicions about foul play being involved. That is all he was at liberty to share with me. I don't think any new charges will actually be filed with this case though.

    ReplyDelete
  39. My gut instinct is that this may be more related to scene/evidence tampering or officer corruption than something else. This will be interesting.

  40. I still think he killed himself because he was having an affair with Hole's bassist and Courtney found out.

The bassist killed herself a few days after Cobain did.
