Blind Item #5

The director of this very very very recent bomb of a movie is being blamed for the result because he wouldn't stop trying to have sex with all the extras on location. I think the bad acting had something to do with it too. I mean they are A listers.

    1. My first thought as well. But is Sandler still considered A list?

  2. Is this about Gosling blaming the editors for his film sucking? Or another cinematic turd?

  3. What about the grace kelly movie with Kidman,,,that's supposed to have bombed hard.

  4. I love Adam Sandler movies! I have seen Jack and Jill 1000 times and it still cracks me up. and Mr. Deeds and Happy Gilmore! The only one I HATED was Little Nicky

    1. Derek. You watched Jack and Jill? 1000 times?

I just. I don't know what to do with that.

I mean, old school Adam Sandler, Happy Gilmore, etc.

      But Jack and Jill?

    2. Maybe 50 first dates but NOT Jack and Jill.

    3. I really liked 50 First Dates, Sillygurl, I think partially because it reminded me of a romcom version of Memento.

    4. To my utter shame, I too love Jack and Jill! Every time I see it I catch something I missed, omg so stupid funny, but I don't care!

    6. I adore Sandler movies. Billy Madison is my favorite, though I often like to quote scenes from Happy Gilmore. It's a guilty pleasure I guess.

    7. I LOVE old school Adam Sandler, Billy Madison and I have seen The Wedding Singer more times than I should admit to,but some of the later stuff, just dunno, man

    9. I had that song from Billy Madison stuck in my head all day yesterday . I'll tumble for ya......

    10. No offense at all Derek, but what's the difference? Sandler plays variations of the EXACT same insufferable character in every single one of his movies. (With the onr exception being 'Click' but the guy he played in that was a total jerk...)

    11. Little Nicky is horrid. Sandler's first two were soooo good, people are willing to give his films a whirl in hopes that he'll get his groove back. Kind of the M. Night Shyamalanadingdong of comedies.

    12. I'm late to the party, but "Jack and Jill" is worth watching not only because of Al Dunkaccino, but also because of Sandler's portrayal of Jill. It is surprisingly sympathetic and a little too realistic to someone like me who grew up in Brooklyn and knew several actual women on whom that character could have been based.

    13. Wait is Jack and Jill the one with Tea Leoni where the husband loses his job and pension due to CEO embezzlement or fraud or something? I thought that was Jim Carrey?

...yes I could google this but why?

      Delete
    14. .... Because that was Fun With Dick and Jane and Google could have saved me this embarrassment. That was actually a great movie (if I recall correctly).

I'll just exit stage left to go find my nearest Blockbuster.

    1. Huh. Okay, then I have to admire your willingness to embrace pure crap as well as the transcendent! I mean, ANYone can love amazing Australian cinema, but to also dig Jack and Jill, that is a unique mind.

I have to confess a undying devotion to the Reno 911 movie

  9. I think Derek just revealed to us why he is so disturbed and perturbed! (Jokes)

  10. Has that Seth McFarlane movie bombed with Charlize Theron?

  11. They may have bombed, but are they Craptastic!

  12. Ah, poor Ryan. At least he's giving something else a try.
I like that Big Daddy movie of AS. Everything else is a dud tbh.

  13. what about that Western movie with Sarah Silverman and Seth Mcfarlene (who also directed it?). Is that out yet? its a comedy...

  15. I don't think A Thousand Ways to Die in The West is out yet, we tried to do a movie last night and it said it wasn't out until Thursday

  16. I don't think the Seth McFarlene movie is out yet.
If this is meant to be Blended, then the director is Frank Coraci.

  17. Never a fan of Family Guy and thought TED would bomb, Seth McFarland's smarmy good looks, demeanor, good cheer & potty humor have won me over. His new movie will probably do well... and that's....ok. Did I mention Seth is really smarmy?

  19. Million Dollar Arm bombed. But I guess it only had one A lister. It was filmed on location thought.

  21. OMG, Guido!!! Yahoo Serious!!!! Now there's a mental blast from the past my brain did not need this morning!! That hair, that obnoxious style ....... Wonder what he's up to these days?? Prob on some bizarro comedy circuit with Emo Phillips.

  22. I thought Guido had typos--so I had to Google Yahoo (get it Google Yahoo!) and have not come across whatever that is as of yet during my viewing pleasures...

    ReplyDelete
  23. The reviews for Blended were not as bad as other recent Adam Sandler movies. And nobody goes to a Adam Sandler movie for the direction.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Good guess Derek. I usually have typos and auto correct nonsense stuck in to things.

  25. Good morning (((Gweeds!)))

    2. Reno 911 knocked it outta the park every episode! It was so funny. I'm from Sacramento and we knew what Reno was like, and honestly it took one whole episode to figure out it was satire!

  30. Yeah I have that 'hate that I love you' thing with Seth McFarlane too. I can forgive him almost anything now because he brought Cosmos back to TV but also because he says things like 'Science, duh, we benefit from it everyday' or whatever it was he said. I'd put him on my laminated top five if he would agree to not talk about himself at all (and also, if he's actually straight).

  31. Or how about Wally Pfister for Transcendence? The movie starred Johnny Depp and Morgan Freeman. The production budget was $100m and only made $10m in its opening weekend.

    ReplyDelete
  32. How recent is recent though? I mean Ronin 47 is the water level for bombing IMO now. And I'd call that recent.

  33. The Waterboy and 50 First Dates are two of my faves.

  34. TIL lots of movies have been bombing lately. I almost feel bad for Johnny Depp, it's like no matter what he does his movies absolutely suck and no one wants to see them.

    1. @JSierra, I almost think it's because he made such a caricature of himself in the Pirates movies, and it's like he went backward in time in his behaviour. He's a really good actor (I loved Edward Scissorhands, Sweeney Todd when I didn't have to look away, and yes, The Tourist) but breaking up with your long-term partner and the mother of your children to hook up with some unknown who is now managing to get her name out everywhere, while dressing like a cross between broke down Pauley Shore and a broke down Uncle Fester who lost his toothbrush isn't doing him any favors.

While I miss hot Johnny Depp, I will say this: he doesn't have any qualms about being who he is. And I adore his voice.

    2. @Seven That is so much better articulated than I ever could have managed. Agree 100%

  35. The bad script of Transcendence must be blamed and maybe the bad promotion
also.Johnny Depp was wodden but the other actors were nice according to the reviews
Seth McFarlane is released next week
    Ronin47 always was problematic

  36. I used to love all things Seth MacFarlane. But I've been over him for at least five years now, and I'm stunned that I'm still waiting for everybody else to catch up.

  39. How could the numbers be in for a movie that came out on Friday? It has to be a movie that came out at LEAST a week ago.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Since most first run movies are shown only in large chain theaters, they have the ability to report the numbers as soon as the day ends.

  40. I've said it before and I'll say it again Johnny Depp should put a halt to his and Tim Burton's bromance. Its not cute anymore and it hasn't been cute for sometime. I also don't think that the amber heard situation is helping him any. This one sounds like blended tbh...

The Captive / Atom Egoyan got some boos and negative reviews at Cannes (I know, it hasn't officially bombed, it was only a screening)...Ryan Reynolds A list actor... Not sure anyone cares if Egoyan screwed around with extras in the permafrost in Sudbury, Ontario though.

  46. There was some headline the other day that said something like "Sandler admits making 'Blended' so he could go on vacation."

Cracked has an interesting theory about Johnny Depp: "Johnny Depp Was Never a Blockbuster Star by Himself." They say his movies only make money when he's not the central character; when he is, they don't do as well.

  47. I'm with Freya--I think it's Wally Pfister and Transcendence. Wally's best known as a world-class cinematographer, and IIRC this is his first time actually directing a movie. I don't know enough about him personally to say he's the kind who'd run amok once he got to be the captain of his own vessel instead of just the first mate, but if he did, he wouldn't be the first... And yes, Depp and Freeman for the A-listers; while Johnny's last view movies haven't done well, he's still a big enough name that he'll be A-list (maybe A-, but still A) for some time to come.

  48. Sorry, Seven, I should have mentioned you, since you were the first to suggest it. Anyway, that's at least 3 of us who agree, right? :-)

  49. @BitchieMitchie....I live in Reno, and I'm a wee bit insulted by that comment. Reno 911 is nothing like actual Reno. FFS, it wasn't even filmed here. It's a great place to live, whereas, Sac? Talk about a hole. Reno is beautiful, surrounded by the mountains, the river, trees, wildlife, with a small-town feel and is a close-knit community. 40 minutes from Lake Tahoe. Sac has become almost as bad as Oakland. Rude.

  51. This is Gosling's huge bomb at Cannes. All A listers.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Can you really call something premiering at Cannes a true bomb? I understand the critic perception has a say for sure, but an audience of peers is not the end all definition of a movie's success if a film has yet to reach the public, IMO.

Now Transcendence...I must sadly admit that I have seen this movie. It was a freebie for one of our clients at work (a movie theater chain). It was a big steamy pile of poop and deserves all the crap it has received. I was embarrassed for Johnny Depp- his performance was terrible. He had this weird accent thing going in and out, and there's a scene or two of his that should be evoking extreme emotion and I was laughing uncontrollably. There were so many GOOD actors in that movie, and it was a travesty. But I got to drink during it, sooooo that made it a million times better. I vote Transcendence for this.
