Blind Items Revealed

April 1, 2014

It was supposed to be the movie that cemented them as a couple and move them forward from the roles they had been playing. Instead, it was the end for all practical purposes of their careers. When the movie wrapped they both went their separate ways. When it first started, everything was great. The A list couple were excited to be filming together in the kind of movie they thought would bring them awards and acclaim and vault them into a level of acting they hadn't been able to reach with previous roles.

Both members of our couple were A list at the time. Our actress was forever talking about her craft and how she thought she was better than the roles in which she was being cast. This was before the internet and the tabloids didn't really focus on the couple. If they had, they would have seen both of them using drugs on a daily basis. Our actress met a co-star on the set and there were sparks. Here was a man. Someone who was worldly. He was not the star he or force he is today in movies but his intensity was there and she ended up in his bed within days after they first had a scene together on set. Our actor in the couple didn't handle this well and the drug use increased to the point where his performance started to suffer. It took hours to film scenes that should have taken thirty minutes. To get back at our actress he started sleeping with an actress on the set. She was older than our actor but it didn't matter to him. He was trying to make his partner jealous. It didn't work. Meanwhile, the co-star he was having a fling with was falling in love with him and thought they had a future together. She was a mess for a year after filming ended and she found herself dumped.

It is amazing to see how one film and what happened on the set derailed the careers of actors who thought they were moving forward and instead never achieved anything close to what they had before filming started.

Molly Ringwald/Andrew McCarthy/"Fresh Horses"/Viggo Mortensen/Patti D'Arbanville

  1. Finally an interesting one

  2. I would say Viggo did pretty well for himself afterwards.
I've always heard Andrew is a dick.

  4. So that's what happened to Molly. Andrew completely fizzled.

    I'd hit Viggo too!

  5. Hellz yeah , I would dump that whiny Bitch, McCarthy, for Viggo in a red hot second!
He made Stair sex look comfy!

    1. @sandybrook...when I saw this I totally remembered within a week of this blind (makes sense to be prior to this blind) he mentioned how he was "preparing" another blind (this one I think) that had "this same person in it" and how it was ironic that "she (the actress) had slept with one of the world's most infamous people" because this actress was now starring in a movie regarding this infamous person (Charles Manson). People were guessing Patti because she is currently filming a movie about the Manson Girls. And then this blind comes out. All makes sense. I just wish I could find that blind but I gave it a shot but failed :(

  7. Side Note: Enty wanted us to remember the Mean Girl trolls from the great April Fools Day of 2014

  8. Doug Hutchinson was in that movie too. It's about a guy that starts a relationship with a 16 year old girl. Life imitating art, eh, Doug?

  9. Ringwald was always a shitty actress. She had some good movies, but her acting sucked. I'm not surprised that her career didn't skyrocket.

  10. aw, Tara beat me out by thismuch :D

  11. I like how McCarthy has basically morphed into Andie's dad from Pretty in Pink, aka Harry Dean Stanton

    2. Aaaggghhh!! That needs a NSFW tag! Andrew is melting! Who would have thought that Duckie would age better than Andrew OR James Spader?

      Delete
    3. *raises hand* ooh ooh ooh, me!!!

Ducky had better bone structure--that will ALWAYS ease the aging process.

Aaaaannnd...a quick google of Spader (Dude! Where's My Hair?) informs me his girlfriend and mother of his child is one Leslie Gustafson, who was mentioned recently as the woman with whom Farrah Fawcett caught Ryan O'Neal cheating. So, small world eh?

  12. Well if you cant act well you better be beautiful but Molly, when she was young looked good as she got older didn't, maybe because of drugs. It was predicted when she was young she would grow into a gorgeous adult.

  13. Andrew Mccarthy is now directing oitnb. Jg e clashed with Laura prepon which is why she was only on 3 episodes

  15. Wow, that was pretty juicy.

  16. McCarthy has always lacked range as an actor, although I saw him do a good turn on L&O.

I saw Ringwald on TV a few months ago talking about her jazz singing career and how she'd been singing jazz with her father since she was a child. Then they played a clip of her performing with her band and I was totally underwhelmed. For someone whose been singing for over 30 years her voice is unremarkable.

Still, 16 Candles remains my favorite teen movie of all time.

  17. I'm impressed that Molly bedded Viggo. That's one fine man.

    ReplyDelete
  18. He would get drunk before he filmed his love scenes with Molly. He said at the time it was the only way he could get through them. Molly was the original Heigl. Later in 1991, she blamed the unraveling of her career due to the fact she got her hand caught in a car door and missed a huge studio meeting because of it. Who knows? Sounds kind of Lohan-ish to me.

    1. @Jason, her reddit AMA was too good for me to believe the Heigl comparison.

Plus, I just don't want to.

  19. And I remember seeing Fresh Horses when it came out and being completely underwhelmed.

  20. OMG. This blind is awesome. The movie Fresh Horses was THE WORST. I actually watched this piece of trash in the movie theaters. It was beyond awful.

  21. When I first started reading was hoping this was Tommy boy & Nicole

    ReplyDelete
  22. Yes and no. They've both gone on to work more she was on secret life of American teenager & he was pretty hot as joe on lipstick jungle. Plus weekend at Bernie's was after this that was a pretty big hit for him. But agreed if you thought you were getting a pretty in pink rematch this movie sucked

  23. Andrew was in that short lived Brooke Shields' TV show that was a little like SATC. When I saw him I thought what ever happened to that guy? I always thought he was handsome and a decent actor. It's funny how some careers keep going and others drop off the map.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Molly was great in 'not another teen movie'.

    ReplyDelete
  25. btw... (as I have mentioned before) I used to work in "the biz" many years ago and I heard from a pretty reliable source that Andrew goes both ways ;) and that he didn't hide it very well on WAB and didn't hide his drug use very well either. Not saying it's true just heard from someone who worked on that movie.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I know someone who was in WAB and she confirmed Andrew was a dick but the other guy was a sweetheart.

    Is that you Wahoo?

    ReplyDelete
  27. @ Sherry no but not knowing (or ever having heard anything about Mr. Silverman) he does strike me a good guy...don't ya think? The person I knew was behind the scenes.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Wow this is more like it!
O-O the visual of sock puppets!
Jason, who hasn't slammed their hand in a car door & missed an important meeting? It's a very common occurrence .

  29. From Don Johnson to Charles Manson, makes sense.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I've never even heard of this movie, I think I need to go rent it.

Andrew is 1 of these that always has "issues" with his costars, like Shannon Doherty, that's never his fault.

  31. Great SCOTT! This was a good reveal. Saw the movie when it came out on video. Remember video stores? lol!!
Yea the movie stunk. But good blind reveal. Thanks Enty!

  32. Am I the only 1 who thinks there's something off with Molly's jaw &/or teeth and the way she speaks?

    ReplyDelete

    1. No, jessica, and thank uou for bringing it up! I knew i wasnt crazy!!! Her lips are like huge, and hanging open, showing very dry gums and lips. Then these small teeth are in there, very yellow. Could never get beyond that. Its like her lower half of face operates independently from the upper half. Unsettling.

    2. She always had it, but it seems to have gotten worse as she's gotten older. It was very pronounced on Sex Life of the American Teenager.

  34. Fresh Horses? Why would that indicate to anyone that it's a good movie worth watching? Maybe if I stop laughing at the title long enough...

  35. I'm sorry but Molly Ringwald lost her shelf life at 18. Without John Hughes, she's pretty much nothing.

I always get Patti confused with Beverly DeAngelo.

  36. This is the story that turned me against Molly forever: (My apologies for the source)

Lillian Gish was in a dither. In honor of the expected guest, who was invited by PEOPLE, she had put on her best opal necklace and a sumptuous velvet skirt. "And you say the young lady's name is Molly Ringwald?" she asked excitedly as she set out cookies. "And we are to talk about the difference between actresses then and actresses now? Oh, dear, I hope I won't bore her." She didn't get the chance—La Ringwald never arrived. The carrot-topped teen, who achieved quickie celebrity in Sixteen Candles and Pretty in Pink, stood up the 86-year-old grande dame of the movies, the superstar of Hollywood's first masterpieces; D.W. Griffith's The Birth of a Nation and Intolerance. The appointment was for noon. Miss Gish waited patiently until almost 3 p.m. Then she said sadly, "I guess she doesn't care because I'm old."

Molly passed on the opportunity to have her photo taken with Lillian Gish. It was an opportunity to have an iconic image that would well outlast her and she just couldn't be bothered.

    1. That really is heartbreaking. I'm sure Molly had a real case of the ass when she was younger and hot box office property. I'd dare say that she'd jump at the chance now, especially since she's lost relevance.

  37. That is awful to hear such bad stories about her. Someone posted an interview she did somewhat recently and she was so super cool and funny. It was where she answered fans questions :(

    ReplyDelete
  38. @Reno U speaking of that AMA on reddit last yearish? She did seem down to earth on that....maybe she got knocked down a peg or two and had a major reality check. If it only happened to more famous ppl...sigh...

    ReplyDelete
  39. Yes Wahoo! That's the one.

  40. That's pretty much the kind of reveal I read this site for! I saw Molly Ringwald shopping in Las Vegas a few years ago, in a bikini and cover up. I think it was whan she was doing press for her beauty book. Anyhow, she was tall, quiet and pretty in a normal way.
Also, I think she was the answer for a Lainey blind a few weeks ago about a celebrity author who didn't want to sign books for all the people who had shown up for a book signing. She had a dinner reservation.

  41. Juicy! I'd love a whole day of nothing but 80's reveals.

  48. This movie sounds horrible, but nice reveal.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Wow. I just wrote this whole crazy-fan-in-defense-of-Andrew-McCarthy thesis here instead of finishing my actual master's capstone portfolio, which is due in 10 days. Not at all pathetic, right? Heh heh. Anyway, the TL; DR was that I don't know that I believe all of this and not just because I'm biased but because of various AMcC/MR trivia I've read about them filming both this and PiP.

I know you're all glad that I thought better of it and deleted those five or six paragraphs, so...you're welcome. Carry on. (And join me in watching "Don't Trust the B----" on Logo right now!)

  53. I had your back, Tara! I KNEW this one was on the money. There doesn't come a bigger MR fan from the 80s, than me, but MR has always been a self important twat. Just a fact you learn you accept.

  54. @Paint Chips: that is horrible. I adore Lillian Gish! What a wasted opportunity. I never cared for Molly Ringwald, but this story sends me over the edge.

Lillian Gish, true classy lady. Unbelievable that Ringwald stood her up. I'm beyond disgusted.

    ReplyDelete
  55. As with everything, there's more than one side to a story.

Here's the non-Kneepads version of the Ringwald "snub" of Lillian Gish:

"But try as you might, you can't hide a pop culture icon from the glare of the tabloid press. "Early in my career I was asked to do an interview with Lillian Gish and I was really excited. But then everything got screwed up, I smashed my finger in a door, the taxi took me to the wrong end of town, it was the middle of winter, I couldn't get another taxi, and I was heart-broken because they said she didn't want to do it anymore. So I got flowers and wrote her a note and said how sorry I was, and they just wrote this sort of... like... horrible piece on how I stood up this sweet old woman who had a plate of cookies waiting for me. I mean they couldn't have written it to be worse. They got a much better article out of me that way than if I'd showed up, and it started this feeling that I was a bratty actress who didn't care and left people waiting. I've never been the kind of person who would do that."

And a link to the interview in case anyone's interested.

    1. Sprink, how many times has this chick slammed the car door on her hand? I thought it was when on way to big agent/producer meeting? Is she or isnt she capable of getting or out of a car without smashing one or more hands/fingers in door? This sounds like a baloney story, " i missed the meeting, i had just washed mu hair, had soap in my eye, cldnt see street, rolled down window, got my head stuck in window, got free, the dog ate her address, and everyone acted like it was my fault, that i hate a nice old lady with a tray of cookies."!!
