Blind Item #11 - Old Hollywood

This actor was on an all-time hit show. He was not the lead, but was second fiddle. This was an iconic show with an iconic actress. Our actor was a drunk and only got hired because he was best friends with the lead actor of the show who was married to the actress,. Our actor would generally be drunk while shooting and was hated by the woman who played his wife.

I love Vivian Vance! She was amazing and gifted, like Lucy but no glory.

CBS didn't want frawley cause he was a known drunk so put clause in his contract that if he ever showed up drunk, he would be fired.

  12. And it's also a great story!......

"Complicating matters was the clause in her contract that stated that if anything happened to either of them, the other could be written out of the show...It was this over concern about being identified with Bill that laid the groundwork for the infamous Frawley-Vance feud that would rage for the full run of "Lucy." Once Bill discovered how Vivian felt, the gloves were off and no one could reconcile their differences....."

  13. They were both funnier than Lucy and Ricky. Considering the information here, which I've never heard before, it's amazing they got anything accomplished.

Vivian Vance was pretty vocal about never wanting to work with him again.

Wasn't there was later something about Frawley having issues with being replaced on My Three Sons and causing trouble?

Frawley was HATED by everyone on every show he was on, how he got more than one role is freaking amazing. Desi liked him because they were both drunks, lol. If you look at the age difference now between Vance & Frawley, it's pretty hilarious. No woman is marrying a man IRL that's
that much older than her without hella $$$$$.

He was written out of My Three Sons because the studio couldn't get insurance on him after he had cancer. He died a year or so later of a heart attack.

Yeah, pretty much common knowledge Bill Frawley was drunk. It was mentioned in the very bad made-for-TV-movie made a few years ago.
