This A- list mostly television actor who has had hits at home and abroad but is known for his pay cable role gets extremely violent when drinking. His ex says she feared for her life when he was drunk because he would break bottles and then threaten her with the shards.

I don't know, Piven's a nasty guy, no doubt, but he doesn't strike me as the "threaten her with a broken bottle" type. I can see him slapping a woman around but the broken bottle thing is such a "street gutter" move. He's a middle class brat from Illinois whose parents were drama teachers.
