Blind Item #1

This African-American talk show host refuses to date anyone her own race. Actually she refuses to date anyone who is not white. She also has no non-white friends.

Not really a talk-show host but a news anchor

    Raven has dated black girls

I agree with Whoopi--she is a jerk anyways

Again, having a "type" is not racism.

A friend once told me that Whoopi's original one-woman show was the funniest thing he ever saw in his life. I didn't see it so I can't judge, but that sure was a long time ago. I've never been able to stand her.

for dating it is not but for friends? and against your own race? That is definitely messed-up..

So now it's considered not politically correct to have preferences when it comes to who you're attracted to?

  10. The people you like are the people you like, it that racist? Perhaps it is the other people, who don't want to be friends, with her.

I saw the show, and it was made into an HBO (?) special, so there should be copies of it out there somewhere. Can't encourage you enough to track it down - series of sketches where she plays different characters, most of them with surprise twists by the end. Not really stand up, since each sketch is 5-20 minutes long. But smart comedy, and incredibly touching at times.
There was a time I was a big fan. She's also outstanding in "The Color Purple", don't think there could have been a better Celie. But she's not that same person she was all those years ago, for some reason she has gotten much more bitter.

Stacey Dash has a child with R&B singer Christopher Williams. Not her.

Even if you take Enty's words as gospel -- never a great idea -- there's absolutely nothing here to suggest that whoever this is is "against their own race."

You get along with people you get along with. If you're a prickly, acerbic, disagreeable person, you may have only one or two friends. If that's the case, there are likely to be lots of races who aren't represented among them.

Whoopi was with Frank Langella for years and Ted Danson for a while

Well, I'm a prickly, acerbic, disagreeable person and I have many friends. Of all races. Like a United Colours of Benetton commercial...

You say prickly & acerbic like those are bad things. I resemble that.

I agree she was great then. Time has a way if squeezing the fun out of people sometimes.

    Derek,
I have to admit that I've always found you to be a little coo-coo in your interactions with @Tricia13.
But you have become increasingly relaxed and downright funny during her absence.
    This ^^^^ was a genuine laugh-riot!
    Thanks, lol.

She was a genius. I have no idea what happened or how she ended up being the parody of herself that she is now but once upon a time Whoopi Goldberg was a brilliant writer/performer.

  23. Can someone PLEASE tell me what the hell happened to Whoopi's eyebrows? It's one of the great mysteries of our time.

..and her one woman show was great & set the bar ....

My guess, Whoopi. What's wrong with having all white friends, or dating only whites? She's intelligent and maybe she meets more intelligent white people to be friends with in Hollywood than blacks.

A friend's mum knew Whoopi. One day my teen friend came home to find Whoopi sitting on the verandah waiting for her mum to get home. She said she was the friendliest, most unpretentious person.

  27. You know what's actually racist?

Not mentioning how certain black entertainers only and exclusively date black people, but only mentioning white and/or black entertainers, who only and exclusively date non black people.

Soooo...Emma Watson will only date white guys, so people started calling her a racist. Whoopie will only date white guys, so does that maker her a racist too, or does she get a free pass, because she's black?

It's all personal preference. Everyone's always jumping on the racist/prejudice card...when everyone on this earth has a prejudice and a preference. EVERYONE. I'm a white female, and I do not find black guys attractive in the least. I also don't find Asian guys attractive. They just don't do it for me romantically. I'm into dark haired white guys, sometimes Hispanic guys. I even dated a Moroccan for 3 years. Black and Asian...nope. Not interested. I'm also NOT attracted to obese people, blonde guys, women or little people. My Filipino friend will only date white guys with 6-pack abs. Oh well.

    @ Marlo...completely agree with you 100%

    ReplyDelete
  30. OK, but to be fair, can't you say that about anything? What if someone were to say: "I don't like hanging out with black people - it's a PERSONAL PREFERENCE people!" - surely you'd say that was racist, right?

@Well...I understand ur point, but ur missing mine. Dating and hanging with are two different things. Not friending someone because they're black is racist or prejudice, not wanting to date a black person because u don't find them attractive is completely different. Nice try tho.
