Today's Blind Items - The Brother Did It - Old Hollywood

Back in the days of silent films, this actress was probably B list. She retired from acting at a very young age after an on set accident. She also died at a very young age when she took her own life. That part of the story appears to be changing now. There is an author who is writing a book on something wholly unrelated to the actress, but interviewed a man who had served in World War Two and he told a very interesting story about his life. Prior to serving in the War, he spent some time in jail. A couple of years to be exact. He then told the story of how he came to be in jail for those two years.

He (A) was at a bar when a man (B) he was drinking with asked him if he knew of anyone who wanted to make some quick money kidnapping a woman for a few hours and roughing her up. When he found out how much the man was willing to pay he agreed to find a couple other guys and take care of the situation. He asked why the man wanted the woman beaten and the man said that she was set to marry a guy (C) after B had been led to believe she wanted to be with B. B said he had been having sex with the actress for well over a decade but this was going to be her third marriage and B was tired of her going back on her word.

When B told A who the woman was, B agreed to do it for free because he had always wanted to be with a movie star.

So, A and two of his friends kidnapped the actress. They dragged her off the street and drove for 20 minutes to a field. They then beat her and took turns raping her. They then drugged the actress and made their escape.

Our actress was able to identify one of the men and A and his two friends were arrested and charged with the crime of rape. Meanwhile, our actress did get married and it was not to B.

B met with A in prison several times and B told A to just keep denying everything because B had a plan to get A out of jail.

A and his two friends were convicted of the crime and sentenced to an indeterminate amount of time. Right after the sentencing, B spent some time with the actress and got her incredibly drunk. He then forced her to eat poison. She died.

After she died, a judge who had been considering a new trial for the three men, decided to release them instead because our actress was not alive to testify. B had got them out.

Oh, and what makes this story even more interesting is that B was the brother of the actress.

  1. Marvel Rea?

"On June 17, 1937, Marvel Rea committed suicide by ingesting ant paste at the age of 36. She had been brutally attacked and raped by three men less than a year before her death."

What a bunch of sick, sick puppies.

And, Thomas Rea was having sex with his sister?
    So, so sick there, too!

  10. How could they get married if B was her brother?

  11. Read carefully... it never says she was going to marry the brother. It says that the brother wanted to keep the relationship, but she wanted to marry someone else, and it would have been her 3rd marriage.

  16. Brother could've been lying about wanting to marry her - just a story to tell A.

  22. The brother married. His wife's maiden name was Wilkinson, same as Marvel's husband's name. I wonder if she was his sister?

  24. I dunno if something is fudged here, but if the author interviewed B in person, then he'd have to be in 100 or better. If it's Marvel Rea, that is. The rape happened in 1936, and the names and ages of her attackers are public record. They were all in their twenties at the time. I found a date of death for one of them in the 70's.

    Now that's some old-time writing!

  26. i don't know what the law was then in california, but i married a man with the same last name as mine in florida in the 90's, and all we needed were our driver's licenses. (i'll say it again, ugh. florida.)

  27. Why would the author have to be in his 100's, it doesn't say when he interviewed whoever? It could have happened some time ago although I'm not sure why he would have interviewed this person if it wasn't specifically for the purpose of this story.

  28. Marvel was only married twice according to Wikipedia

  29. Bubbles - not the author but rather person B. I'm taking things literally from how this blind is written. "There is an author who IS writing a book". Unless this book has been in progress for 30 years, person B is beyond his life's expentancy which should make it easy to track this down. One of the convicted rapists has the same last name as a politician currently being investigated but I don't think there's any connection between them. At least not that I can find.

  30. Person A died in 1984. Marvel had two brothers, Thomas (a cinematographer) and Clyde. Person B was Clyde. As for Person A serving in WWII, he did fill out a draft card in 1940 but I never saw any proof of his serving. The two guys he got to help were brothers and all three of these guys were no choir boys. I happen to be doing research on Marvel for a blog I'll be putting up in the next few days. I'll post the blog when it's ready. Personally, I don't believe the story.
