Blind Item #2 - Kindness

This A list mostly movie actress who is an Academy Award winner/nominee and was the breaker of some very newsworthy news this week hung out after the conclusion of a smaller awards show this week to offer advice and encouragement to a young female college student and aspiring writer/director, even though the actress was being besieged by her people because the actress was late
for a Q&A of her current nominated film.

  1. What was her news, though?
I can't figure this one out.

Yep - that Jes is a good egg!

  6. I thought Melissa Silverstein broke the news, and then Jessica responded?

  7. Color me confused - everything I've read credits USA Today and Melissa Silverstein as breaking the news. And mentions Jessica Chastain's reaction to the news and that she of course had Michelle's back.

  8. Well it's not like the typical pay disparity BS where a man works as an engineer and a woman works as a checkout person... But I take it that not many people actually saw the movie...

  9. The lovely Great Gerwig. She issued a statement this week that knowing what she knows now, she never would have worked with Woody Allen.

Wondered about Greta as well but would it say director?

  11. I am sick of hearing about the "pay" over the reshoot, NOt sure how it became either Melissa or Jessica's business. Michelle Williams offered to do the reshoot for free, she said it was worthy cause to reshoot to get Spacey out of the picture. However, as a card carrying actress she HAD to get paid the minimum of 80.00 a day, No way around that. He on the other hand, negotiated his pay to travel to Aussie at the holidays to reshoot the scenes.
Sure he could have done it for free and been paid the 80.00 a day as well, but he didn't, that is his choice, He probably had no clue that Michelle had made that offer or he may have.
But again, it is not anyone's business what Michelle got paid, unless Michelle put it out there, ditto with his pay.
Can you tell I am not a fan of Jessica's anyway..

  12. The whole point of this story was that Marky Mark was paid 1.5 million for those same reshoots.

  13. Truth seeker, totally agree with you. Much ado about nothing, trying to stir up trouble. It is what it is.

  14. Natalie Portman? "Breaker of news" could be a tongue-in-cheek reference to her GG presentation comment. (I.e., very newsworthy, but not really news.)

  15. NVM, nothing currently nominated.

  16. Marky Mark is a steroid/HGH shootin' douchebag.

  18. My issue with the pay discrepancies is that Michelle has the same representatives as Mark and was told everyone is taking scale. They were not and her representatives knew. Her representatives are to blame for not having her back.

  19. My posts keep disappearing.
I think this is Jessica Chastian, because the Washington Post reported this back in November before Melissa Silverstein, but it didn't get traction until Jessica's tweet.

I disagree with Marlin & Truthseeker. Both Michelle & Mark are rep'd by Ari Emanuel's WME, so WME violated a legal duty by not making Michelle aware of the pay discrepancy. The studio or Mark could have done the decent thing and alerted Michelle, who has top billing, of the pay issue. Ridley Scott & Michelle have been saying in interviews that the entire cast (except Plummer) agreed to do the re shoots for scale, so they were not made aware. Impertative Entertainment is located in Santa Monica, so I think they violate CA's Fair Pay Act.

This is also a lesson to women to know their worth. Women need to get outside the comfort zone and demand the same pay as our male colleagues. I have not seen this movie, but is Marky-Mark the box office draw or Oscar-nominee Michelle?

  20. Don't take this personally (because I don't know you) but anyone who believes the Greta Gerwig PR train is an idiot. She was NOT nominated for best director because she is a woman, the other nominated dierectors were better. Stop with the pouting GG. It's nauseating.

The last ditch effort for the Oscar nomination is on full blast. It's "popular" now to take a stand, so she comes out against Woody Allen. Too little too late. We already know this is for PR.

She has done the back track thing before and needs to be called out for the lack of respect she has for the public.

  21. I saw the movie; it's definitely Michelle's film, so to speak, and she's excellent. Marky's part is sizable, but totally utilitarian. I've never considered him a draw, but he was 2017's top-paid actor, so clearly others disagree. :\

Agreed--the main lesson here seems to be that Michelle should fire her representation.
