Blind Item #8 - The Roommate - A Dancing Boy Blind

Back before the one candidate for yesterday's #14 blind started going by his actual name, he was a regular at one of the franchises of a certain major city club mogul. He hosted frequent drug and booze fueled parties attended by the group which included the one person, along with his boyfriend, who would commit a notorious murder. (Said person is now out of jail, and because FSF was apparently quite wrong about that second acts quote, he has a bigger and madder fan base than ever.) Who did he like to invite? Barely legals of both sexes. I know because my first year college roommate attended one and maybe more than one of these (can't remember). Said roommate, sadly now deceased, also dealt on campus, and while the source was very likely another person at a higher level mentioned in this blind (and long suspected by the feds), the intermediary was someone who got famous in a way no one wants to: he was the victim of the notorious murder. (They were both also seeing that VJ known for drug guzzling and boi chasing, which caused business conflicts.)

My roommate had actually started visiting the city (from his small upstate hometown) the year before, largely because his childhood best friend was going to school nearby. (She was actually a child cello prodigy, and would years later go on to internet fame at the big video site. The summer before he and I started college - he chose to go where she went so they could be close again - she was living with a certain older orange-haired 80s synth diva in the city. She has a story too about probably the most famous cellist at the time, who was also her teen times teacher, but I'll leave that for her, if she wants to. He's foreign born, and his name is in three parts.)

Sadly, my roommate was recruited in the aforementioned scene (you can imagine why some rich, famous, and powerful men visited these spaces, even if it was officially to keep their profile up, and hang with the kids), and more sadly, his experiences led to him to move beyond party drugs. By our second or third year, his addiction was well advanced, and he spent most of his time with other addicts. I became a kind of replacement for him to the old friend. For a good while there, we spent hours of every day together (she's the nicest person), listening to music, playing music, and talking about everything but him. He and his troubles were always the elephant in the room.

Who else had been trafficked as a minor, according to him? The victim of that famous murder. You can imagine what they both knew, and the names they could name. By the early years of the next decade, the roommate had finally gotten clean, and was working with other addicts, and writing a popular blog among survivors and people in recovery. It came as a shock to many when he was found dead, of an apparent accidental overdose, in 2004. As you can imagine, there are unresolved questions about both the murder and the overdose. There's a third death too, which I'll get to in a follow up.

  4. In this film based on a true story, Michael Alig (Macaulay Culkin) arrives on a Greyhound bus in New York City desperate to leave his boring Midwestern past behind. After meeting downtown club kid James St. James (Seth Green) and influential nightclub owner Peter Gatien (Dylan McDermott), a fame-hungry Alig decides to throw the most controversial and over-the-top parties in the city. In just a few years Alig's drug addiction and erratic behavior threaten to destroy the empire he's created.

Supernova had potential. Too bad it had 15 thousand million directors that botched it.

This reminds me more of Michael Alig and James St James, though I don't think that's right

The good ol Limelight Days. I remember this story-I was much younger but it was vivid because I used to go there..and was like -this happened?Gory murder of Menendez.... truly stranger than fiction this life

    2. Speaking of the Limelight days, I didn't go to clubs often, but I was at Area one evening when Andy Warhol was there.

And speaking of Michael Musto, I was in line for a Broadway play once (much more recently) when Musto and his probably about 20-year-old boytoy were right in front of me. A fresh-faced youngster he was. And I don't mean Michael.

  8. Laurie Anderson for synth diva? Kind of orange haired.

  9. So Marky Mark hung with this crowd? Is that how he got videos on MTV, through his John Norris "connection"?

  14. I think I've mentioned Nelson Sullivan before, but if you haven't checked him out, he was basically one of the first to make film documentaries. He had thousands of hours of VHS tapes from the NYC club kid days that are a seriously interesting look at that specific culture and group. It includes his friends RuPaul, Alig, Musto, Linda Edelstein, James St James, Richie Rich, the club kid parties, guerilla parties at Mcdonald's, trips, etc. Also a lot of Amanda Lepore, Lady Bunny, Lahoma Vanzant, Larry Tee, Joey Arias, (Fenton and Baily RuPaul's producers), and many many more familiar faces.

  15. Also Jenny Talia, not Thalia (auto correct likes singers more than genitalia)

  16. about that second acts quote - the Drano was used line from Musto, butbI guess attributed to FStF instead. Alig and Freeze did spray the body with Eternity by CK, however, in a sick connection to other child molesters.

  17. I have a friend who survived this scene.he is so messed up now. He is convinced people are trying to kill him because of what he saw and what he knows. I'm not so sure he is wrong anymore...

And his Twitter handle is a reference to the bloodthirsty murderer, dismemberer, and sexual deviant, Caligula.

The one who drank children's blood, raped/pimped out his sisters, and made a horse a senator.

He's fucking proud of his reputation as a murder-fetishists

Fuck Michael Alig. And Fuck the retarded drug addicted party-slut clubkids who still celebrate this scum.

    2. The Limelight was one of the most fucked up clubs I've ever been to. It was creepy as hell.
Mackenzie Phillips wouldn't leave me alone, she latched onto me like a barnacle, shoving coke up my nose. I felt sorry for her but I wanted/needed to regroup with my friends.
Then, one of the owners (whom I'd met from other nyc club owners), I won't say who, wanted me to to go to a private party in another room on another floor. He assured me my friends were there. I went because one of my friends was well known and I thought he was telling the truth and hey, they were my ride.
What a nightmare. No, my friends weren't there but what I did find were a bunch of old (hey, I as in my early twenties), pathetic men with wide eyes. Eye'\s wide shut-ish, with girls/women half naked, if not naked.
I ran out of there faster than if I were on fire.
Thankfully, my friends were outside waiting for me. They laughed and laughed. They'd never been in the upper floors, or so they said.

  19. Just confirmatory facts

"On New Year's Eve, 1992, Marky Mark performed at not one, but two of Gatien's clubs — he stripped down to his undies at Palladium, but kept his clothes on at a gay party at Tunnel."

  20. So which of the Club Kids was Dancing Boy's roommate at Sarah Lawrence in 1991?

  21. He's been making his stupid little vlogs since he got out. He's a mess and always will be. Maybe that's judgmental, but I don't consider JSJ a mess, although he spent way too much time in K holes.

  22. My friend and I dressed up as club kids for Halloween in sixth grade ... I can't believe our parents let us, but also they had no effing idea what a club kid was and to be quite honest we barely knew. Just a neon crop top, wide leg jeans, a ton of glitter and a funky hairstyle. Then when I grew up and read about the actual club kid scene I looked back and laughed and cringed haha

  23. I worked in NYC in the early 1990s, on 17th Street. I was one of several 20-something women who worked in a hip office. Every now and then, someone had to ferry paper documents over to the Limelight and Gatien's office. I remember one time, I went over there about 9 or 10 am on a weekday. The lights were on, and there were dozens and dozens of teenagers (male and female) sleeping on the floor even though the bright lights were on. It's always weird to go into a club when it's not open and it's got regular lighting and the kids just made it weirder.

I had to step over some of them. I wasn't more than 25 myself but I felt super old as they all looked like babies to me. I also felt sorry for them and decided to never go to The Limelight again.

I delivered the documents and left. That was that.

  29. True story: Michael Musto had a crush on my ex-husband for years. My ex ducked out whenever we ran into him...he found it embarrassing being publicly fawned over by someone he didn't find attractive. This was not a comforting rationale to a wife who wanted her husband to be 100% straight. (I thought you were cute, Michael. This was I.N., if you're reading and curious.)

  32. More recycled old news. Several movies/docs about the topic, everything is on YouTube, and was on talk shows at the time. None of this, was ever any secret to anyone. This site has become blind quanity, not quality. If "a roommate" wrote this, it's only a beg for attention. I'm thinking, more likely, this site is just recycling onld news to fill site with daily content. It's embarrassing.
