Blind Items Revealed #1

April 10, 2018

Producers of this residency had always assumed their new star attraction could sing. Sure, they knew she would need backing vocals, but when she showed up for rehearsals, they freaked at just how awful this A list singer sounds and how she is going to have to lip sync everything other than talking to the audience.

Gwen Stefani

  1. Sigh. Must be karma for Spiderwebs.

  2. She's just a girl. In the world. Who can't sing.

And shouldn’t go out in public without her 10 pounds ok makeup, gawd does she look terrible. I still can’t get that image out of my head, never.

  3. Most of them are fabricated to match "the look" exec's are looking for at that moment and time. See: Jennifer Lopez, et al.
    The good/real singers/bands stopped around the 80's.

  4. There goes another mind painting from when I was growing up. Jeez.

  5. Knew it. This is no shock. Listen to her famous songs. She sounds horrible. Not in a Bob Dylan gritty way but in a screechy, terrible way.

  6. She's a singer from a ska/punk band not an R'n'B diva but even still, this is poor. All she has to do is carry her hit songs.

    1. I grew up in the punk scene, and there are awesome punk chick singers. Gwen has always been bad no matter what scene.

  7. I feel like she would've been better off staying with Tony

    1. I don't think it was her choice. :(

  8. I saw her band open for the Stones on one of their tours (the one were they did a different album every concert). She put in a good effort, but nobody cared, they were just waiting for the Stones.

That being said, I thought that she sounded about as good as any bar band, definitely not up to the level that you would expect for a Vegas headliner.

  9. She's not a shitty singer and she is an incredible entertainer. Just overproduced on her albums.
Her voice has always been unique. And damn, when we get older our voices change. Almost all rock/pop stars have this issue when aging. No shade coming from this corner, Gwen.

  10. So... Gwen Stefani is an honorary MV? No real surprise here.

      She sings well. Smoking mayne?

  12. I don't think I posted on the original blind but how is anyone surprised?
Just go on Youtube and look up her time on carpool karaoke. Corden out sang her, so did Clooney and Roberts by the end of it. Lol

  13. Gwen never had a voice. She was quirky, in an atonal way that worked with ska. She has to slide into the proper note, warbling all the way, sometimes missing it by miles.

That said, I liked the way she sang. She made the most of what she had and it came off surprisingly well (until Holla Back, which was my bridge too far.)

  14. Something must have happened to her voice. I saw her in a small venue, the Mint in LA, when she did a surprise show back in 2000ish. Her voice was amazing live and up close.

  15. She used to be my favorite many years ago but now I can't even listen to her. Those duets with Blake are absolutely horrid.

Just go look up some live videos of No Doubt on YouTube, she's always been hit or miss (mostly miss) live, from day one.

WTH are you doing? Making reasonable, well informed comments on the internet - that's not how it's supposed to work.
    2ThumbsUp.

  18. I remember her on Saturday Night Live singing "Don't Speak". She was painfully off key. Just awful.

She's a personality with big lungs, who can produce loud noises.
    Not a singer.

  20. Gwen is so sweet, but its never been a secret that she's pitchy and isn't a strong singer.
She's a great all around artist, she can write and she's an amazing performer, but just as a singer, nope.

  21. I personally enjoy Gwen's singing. She's got a unique voice that fits her personality. She's a heck of an entertainer and has her own style. I'd totally go see her in Vegas.

  22. Yup - watch any two live youtube videos of Gwen and you'll see she's a shitty singer. No surprise.

  23. Btw, can we get more of those kindness blinds back?

  24. Calling Gwen's "voice" unique is precious.

  25. Very few of today's 'singers' can actually sing and would be lost without a vocal harmonizer.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Definitely not technically good, but her voice absolutely has something special that cannot be duplicated. I can see why she has been a success as an entertainer

    1. I'll also add that she is pretty much ALWAYS on key. Those of us who've seen a lot of live music know that this is not always the case, even with well established artists.

  27. Don't speak? More like don't shriek n don't squeak

  28. Isn't her dad Fred Gwynne?
