It's the plan, @Predilecto. It's definitely not about giving the people what they want. The people are programmed to want what they want, and the programming changes incrementally over many years. The degradation of the culture weakens the public and keeps the power concentrated in a few hands.

The collective IQ of the nation has lowered over the last few decades due to the dysgenic effect or the Reverse/Negative Flynn effect. Intelligent people are having fewer children, and less intelligent people are having more children. The welfare state is propping up an entire lower class society. We are subsidizing poorer, less intelligent people to have families. Another reason is that we've imported the third world since 1965.

But it will a cognitive elite capable of doing all of the intellectually demanding jobs that the majority of the public cannot or will not do. Essentially, we will be a third world country. That's basically what's happening, is we're going third world.
The movie Idiocracy is very real, albeit exaggerated for the laughs. I am sure companies know this and found they can make much more money appealing to the vast majority of the lower strata of society.
Our entire popular culture has been transformed from the best in the world to a laughable mess. I can only see marginal differences these days with our mainstream popular culture and third world media.

ReplyDelete@Predilecto, what you write about is true, I believe, but the conspiratorial dimension is very much present as well. Television is one of the great instruments of social engineering, one of several big ones, and they don't call it "programming" for nothing.
