Blind Item #2

Deaths don't mean anything in this television show. They have shown that in the past. Anything can be written to explain it away and bring the character back. I don't think we have seen the last of this former A+ list mostly television actress from a hit network show.

  1. I think they are killing her off to send the message that this woman is never coming back to her hit show, ever. The people running the show and ABC execs can’t stand her. I suspect this will be a one season show to fulfill contractual obligations they made to the actors involved to the tune of millions. Why not give it a shot since they are on the hook for the $$ anyway.

  3. Roseanne without Roseanne is just not a show I'm interested in watching.

  4. Could ABC need Roseanne more than Roseanne needs ABC? Heh.

  5. Good. They'll bring her back the following season after the new show tanks to boost the ratings. ABC knows they did a stupid thing in firing her over something so trivial.

  6. Roseanne was fired because Susan Rice's husband is an ABC producer:

  7. Definitely Roseanne with the Dan Conner died/didn't die reference. I'm curious about why she'd even want to come back.

  8. John Goodman is out in an interview saying that she isn't a racist. Said that he hasn't spoken until now bc he was depressed about it.
Roseanne without Roseanne will tank big time.
Regardless of what ABC thinks about Trump supporters - they are the reason why the show was a hit. All of those watchers will NOT watch "the Connors" even if they would have before the controversy.

  9. So lets see...

Roseanne dies on the table during that surgery she was worrying about.

Then we get Roseanne in flashbacks, or even better, Dan talking to (dead) Roseanne, and she responds offscreen with even MORE conservative and anti-Clinton/Pelosi/Obama/Other comments.

    This might work...

  10. Rosanne was fired because she's addicted to drama, i.e. borderline personality disorder. She is talented, but celebrities who believe their power are usually doomed to fall. The show probably won't last, but at least the actors will get paid for her mouth.

  11. Kind of a random comment, but wasn't there a blind from last fall that implied that Roseanne and John G were hooking up?

    ReplyDelete
  12. @bestman crazy part is ABC tried to get her to stop tweeting during the run of last season and she would stop but then start up again. Apparently, they warned her repeatedly on that. Now that she doesn’t have a show begging her to stop, she’s not tweeting anymore. It’s always a wild ride with Roseanne.

the only blind I remember that suggested goodman was about the St. Charles house and I didn't think it was a good answer but could be wrong

Roseanne's HB is active in her twitterverse - and though Im not saying looks are everything but he's pretty good looking so I think the hookup is unlikely. JG is much more active on TV, movies and stage so out and about - but she's pretty much a homebody in Hawaii I think. All of her controversy is broadcast from her house.

    ReplyDelete
  14. @BestMan

    I think you are right.

Also, people forget that it wasn't ABC that was responsible for Roseanne's firing really. It was the writers and producers who said they would walk if she remained. I *think* Sara Gilbert also declared she wouldn't work with her anymore.

ABC really had not choice in the matter. Their hand was forced. Rosanne dug her own grave, though. All she had to do was shut the fuck up until filming was completely.

  15. Whether you like her or not, this would be like bringing back the Brady Bunch without the mom. Can we all rewind several years - or only a few months - and remind ourselves the show was called Roseanne. The ONLY reason people watched Roseanne was for Roseanne and her interactions and relationships w/the other characters. If it weren't for her personality and sharp tongue what would her show be? I think that was the draw to her show, not so much "I completely agree with Roseanne", it was more of her taking a stance and us seeing her being able to bend and sway and at the end of the day still protect her nest. Even if you can't stand the woman, that is the only character anyone has ever known out of her - now you take her dynamic away from the family/show/house and try to make a show of it? Good luck. Especially if the new show will center around Darlene in the house with her kids & dad.

Of all the peeps on that reboot Darlene is the one that I could have done without. Her "daughter" was Darlene-ish enough to cover the negative, know-it-all, Debbie Downer of the house. Sarah Gilbert portrayed the modern mom who makes an ass of herself trying to stick up for the kid that's been allowed to make-up her own rules as she goes and is now borderline trash/thief/know-it-all with a built-in back-up, her mom.

If The Connors is gonna focus on the same family minus the only reason it existed or was funny, nobody will watch. That's my prediction.

    Who would those people be?

    Notice everyone - I didn't start this.

    2. Not attacking you, because it's not the point of what I'm going to say below:

I don't appreciate what Rosanne said, she was very dumb for tweeting it and clearly needs someone to make sure she stays on her meds. She's old enough to know not to use the term ape when talking about a 'poc', even if we pretend she thought the woman was white, her statement was still wrong.

That being said; there were 100% people here and else where who chastised her yet pretended like what James Gunn said wasn't as big of a deal. People were jumping out of the wood work to support him.

On one side we have an ignorant/racial joke/statment that she was punished for and on the other side we have comments about james gunn being the first to anally rape his daughter and enjoying boys touching his penis.

She lost her show, meanwhile he has a movie coming out this week, damn near ever news paper defending him, and people lining up around the block to have him direct more movies.

The comment about him apologizing in the past: he did for some comments (yet left his tweets up) sure, but not everyone seen that. Many people were finding these things out for the first time. Of course people will react negatively to the comments he made.

    4. I agree that standards aren’t applied fairly. Both Roseanne & Gunn deserved to have their careers vaporized.

  18. They should just end the show like this:

Rosanne wakes up in bed, looks over at Charlie Sheen. They both laugh and look at the camera.

Fade to Black with 'Don't Stop Believing" by Journey.

    Fin.

    ReplyDelete
  19. @Amy I believe that James Gunn's tweets were not ok and he was rightfully fired and I believe that Roseanne's tweets were not ok and she was rightfully fired.

The punishment should fit the crime regardless of who their friends are. But yes this show will absolutely tank without her. It would be like doing Last Man Standing without Tim Allen.

Whether or not people agree with their opinions, Trump supporters still watch TV and will flock to the odd show out that expresses their viewpoints.

    ReplyDelete
  20. But it's more than Roseanne -- the producers/ABC will make the character's death so over-the-top purely out of spite and glee and to deliberately shove it in the base audience's faces. (It'll be the type of highly politicized "comedy" that only one side of the aisle thinks is remotely funny). They won't be able to resuscitate the show after that. They'll be dancing on their own grave.

    ReplyDelete
  21. LOL @Plot, she hit all the right wing sweet spots didn't she! The fact of the matter is Rosanne may of had the right to exercise free speech but as her "at will" employer, ABC was well within their rights to fire her ass for not upholding their standards and practices. That is how Capitalism works. P.S. Enty is wrong, she dead and gone and won't be back. She might have a career with Breitbart News or peddling conspiracies on her own YouTube show, but that is about it.

    ReplyDelete
  22. You can think what Roseanne did was wrong and also think James Gunn tweets were disgusting.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I really liked the other characters on Roseanne, maybe they can Charlie Sheen her ass, there's got to be a female Kutcher.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I liked Rosanne's later argument of, "...but I'm a Jew, I can't be racist!" and how incredulous she was that her fellow tribesman would turn on her. It must be really depressing for her that she can't blame new Hitlers or conflate her firing with the holocaust.

@plot/MSO said: "Who would those people be?" Well, you.

  25. The reboot was just as much about Darlene as Roseanne, so it can easily be retooled to focus on her family, with appearances from the other cast.
I will gladly watch a Darlene show; she was always my favorite character anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I get why theyre keeping the show going, but I wish they'd just end it. We'll see, I like John Goodman a lot so maybe "the conors" can be a success. It's a huge change to the setup, so only time will tell.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Do we know they're going to kill her for "The Conners"? Maybe she will be in rehab for opioids.

    ReplyDelete
  28. The tweet she sent out was stupid, but not “career-ending”. If you were unaware of her heritage, you cannot automatically tell that VJ is African American. She could easily pass as many different ethnicities based on looks alone. If Roseanne’s exact comment had been directed at a white woman, no one would have blinked an eye and believed her when she said it was a political joke, not a racial joke. However, because Ms. Jarrett is part black and the comment had the word “ape” in it, then it was determined that Roseanne MUST be a racist. I am not that big of fan of Ms. Barr, but it’s obvious to anyone who has watched her
show (original or reboot) that, while she may be a lot of things, she is far from a racist. Her shows have touched on race, but never in a hateful way. If anything it always showed that while we may all have our differences, at the end of the day we are basically all the same- decent folks who just want to provide a good life for our families in a safe, secure, living environment. I thought the show about the Muslim neighbors in the reboot was excellent.

  29. Rosanne got fired for showing how the media always pictures trump looking like he's a Deranged Orange Ape; it was a peak behind the propaganda machine and outed one of their favorite tricks.
All the racist hub-bub was to distract from her point. Now her career is in shambles, her reputation shot, and every one thinks she's a crazy person. She butted up against real power, and her
shit was toast in seconds. Remind you of any one else recently? Maybe a certain poundmetoo alliterate actress who's career is also in shambles, with her reputation shot, and every thinks is a crazy person?
How about a recently deceased fake news chef, who has been outed as enabling a rapist and covering up her crime(s)? Certainly his reputation/character/truthfulness have not doubt suffered recently.
    But it's all coincidence, amirite?

  33. Would never watch this show. Roseanne was loyal to her former costars and except for Goodman, no one else has stepped up to defend her. Fuck 'em. She is not racist. How many people knew that Vajayjay Jarret was Black? I always thought her tan complexion was because she's Iranian and many have medium toned complexions. It was a bullshit move by ABC to get rid of her. Can't wait for the media monopolies to get destroyed.

Rosanne was ALWAYS a crazy person. Have you read her Twits? Did you watch her interview on Larry King where she claimed to have, I don't know, a dozen alternate personalities? It was all kind of endearing in a twisted way before she went full on Qanon batshit.

  41. Because you don't agreen with my view, please don't feel the need to break it down as if I need to be educated. I really don't. I hate extreme liberalism and extreme right wing views. There seems to be no middle. People get very nasty these days about politics and incredibly patronising. I found Roseanne's comment stupid and idiotic but I wasn't offended. I found James Gunn's comments sick and worrying. In comparison I would rather keep hold of Roseanne as she is just an idiot. Roseanne Barr was front page news for two days for her comments. James Gunn was a long scroll down a page. Roseanne got demonised and Gunn got supported. I find it offensive that people are so 'offended' by anything to do with race but support pedophiles. That was my point.

    1. And the attitude of extreme liberals on here is so condescending and arrogant it's sickening. I live in London on a housing estate. We are surrounded by all different cultures. We talk politics on occasion too and even they think all extreme liberal views are from the white middle classes who would NEVER communicate with them yet think they can speak for them. That itself is patronising.

  45. I don't want to get involved with the political b.s. on this. Think back to the first time the Roseanne show was on TV and think about the way she was then when it was the most popular show on TV and she had power. She was out of control and that was part of the reason they killed the show. And she was starting up again this time. And they shut her down.

    ReplyDelete
  46. @Amy

Everyone knows who Roseanne is. She's been a megastar in the USA for a long assed time even though she has been on a long hiatus.

Hell, I didn't know who Gunn was before his Twit came to light. Most people still don't know who he is. It is revealed he directed a superhero movie or two. Big deal. Unless it's Chris Nolan, who does other kinds of films too, who cares who directs the sensory assault of a superhero movie. Could be anyone.

Rosanne twitted for the world to tune in. She wants a huge audience for her Twits.

    Gunn twitted to his friends

That's why some people don't find their situations equivalent. That's also why some believe that Disney was looking for a liberal scapegoat to show Trumpers they were not partisan when they fired Roseanne. I guess they found him.

I personally don't care one way of the other about Gunn. He's fired, he works, I don't care.

Or watch the video on Youtube. It's excellent.

But Chomsky wasn't addressing Hollywood. If anything he'd call the obsession with it as much a tawdry diversion, to distract us from the rights and powers over our own lives that we are rapidly losing, as sports is. He ain't wrong.

    I agree with that.

I used Trump as an example, because she was using Trump to make a point about the media bias. She didn't state it as such, but she knows how powerful images can be. I was taking her very specific point about Trump and extrapolating it to a larger fact about how the media pictures people differently depending on their view of the person, and how that is one of one of the basics/favorites in their propaganda tool set to generate desired feelings towards the individual without having to say a word. For another example, Chairman Kim of DPRK always looks unhinged when pictures, while President Obama always looked like Jesus or a soviet leader "looking forward in to the glorious future" during the cold war pose.

I'm not political; I'm just making an observation and using the term propaganda rather than media bias, and the inversion made some other commenters uncomfortable enough that they wished the government of CDan would banish me for wrong-think, something.. anything, so they don't have to self-examine themselves enough to answer the simple question of why they hold the opinions they hold.

    ReplyDelete
  60. tl:dr - Regardless of one's political beliefs, every one should want to understand how the media manipulates their thoughts and feelings. Manufacturing Consent: Noam Chomsky and the Media, 1992 is an excellent non-political breakdown that hasn't aged one bit.

  61. @Thot

I think what makes CDANers uncomfortable is they normally come here for light fare and conversation. Lately as of about 2 years ago, it's become a different animal altogether, where your comments are very apropos. I think it's just when commenters are simply shooting the shit, so to speak, they don't want to be reminded that they only know as much about celebrities or Hollywood as the media corps want them to know - that their biases are controlled. Most probably know that already, if not explicitly, unconsciously.

Obama's media image is a mixed bag. Some outlets gave him the savior halo, others turned him into a monkey (or at least Michelle.) He wasn't subject to one sort of bias and nor is Trump. What I've heard Chomsky say on the matter of Trump is that he is a manufactured distraction from the more dangerous practices of the GOP (with some complicity from the DNC) and our current Congress. My husband agrees, but he knows I'm a fighter so steps out of my way.
