Blind Items Revealed #1

December 19, 2018

Once again this permanent A list singer is out there spinning lies about how this permanent A list holiday song came to fruition. No, she didn't start thinking of it when she was 12 with a little Casio keyboard. Much like all of her hits, she just happened to be the voice to whatever writer wrote it. Just because you have a 50% credit doesn't mean you can ignore the other person and pretend you have 100% credit.

Mariah Carey/Walter Afanasieff/All I Want For Christmas

  1. If anyone else here is a Fiona Apple fan, she actually DID write "Never Is A Promise" when she was 12. :)

So many singers do this, taking credit for writing songs - because the money is in publishing.

    1. Fiona fan here! No comment on Mariah, was just excited to see a Fiona mention

  2. Is the co writer complaining? If Mariah's name wasn't attached he would make less money. Songwriters know this,so they willingly go along.

  3. Yes he is complaining. He wrote Hero and co produced my heart will go on and She Bangs. He is actually making less money because he had to share royalties with Mariah when he wrote the whole thing.

    2. No he didn't write the entire songs. You don't know that as factual. You just don't want to acknowledge that Mariah is a talented composer. She's written hits before Walter and after Walter she doesn't need him.

  4. Its a lot like actors getting producer/executive producer credits on stuff they do. Its an extra paycheck and they probably have very little to no input on what happens on set.

  5. Oh sh!t stop the presses, a permanent A lister lied about how self-sufficient they were in their success or lied and took credit for somebody else's work. I thought it was practically a requirement for the rating.

    1. She never did. He's exaggerating. I explained below.

  6. I remember old interviews she would give, with him. They worked together most of the 90's when she was married to the head of the label, Tommy Motola.

She would sing melodies to him and he would play the piano, because she couldn't & she wrote the words was the story they would give for her "song writing". This was when all her CD's were called things like Music Box, and her songs were Dream Lover.

    1. Do you know that copyright of a song is solely the lyric and melody? Singing a song acapella is the copyright - it's the lyrics and melody. Any instruments added for production value are not apart of a copyright.

  7. @MDAnderson,if someone other than the well known artist had their name on it,it wouldn't be making as much in the first place. Unless the contracts were not honored, that's an other thing. But many songwriters have a performer 's name on credits. Part of the business.

  8. Enty is just showing his personal bias here. Mariah never said she solely wrote that song. She said several times that she and Walter were making a few original songs for the first Christmas album that she wanted to sound like Phil Spector songs. She used to say she collaborated with Walter. Then Walter started being a cunt saying Mariah doesn't talk to him. He doesn't talk to her either. He's friends with her ex Tommy, and he chose to stay with Tommy. But then Tommy luckily got fired from Sony. And Walter works a lot less. So now Mariah just says she wrote the song and still says they wanted it to sound like Spector, but she just doesn't name Walter. It's not a lie. She did write it. She's never claimed to write it entirely alone. I wouldn't acknowledge a cunt anymore either. Enty is wrong about her hits. She made her demo before she met Walter, and she wrote all of her debut number ones from the first album and had them recorded on that demo album, and they sounded almost identical to the versions that ended up in her debut album. So she definitely wrote - without Walter - "Vision of Love," "Someday" and "I Don't Wanna Cry" - as well as non single songs, such as "Vanishing." Walter helped her write the last number one on the album- "Love Takes Time." Almost all musicians cowrite songs. She happens to write more than most other musicians. Mariah never claimed to write music for the first Christmas album with a Casio keyboard. So Enty is not being a good researcher and is letting his bias creep in.

    1. Ok Bryan Tanaka. I love Mimi. I played Music Box everyday, but like Beyoncé they are not songwriters. I feel bad for you butterflies believing this crap. Enjoy Aspen

  10. Sounds like "Universal Energy" is someone from Mariah's camp, can't be Mimi though bc as anyone who has seen M in interviews knows she ain't that articulate.

Yes, I remember the 90's when Mariah use to work with him and the interivews she would give. She can't play instruments or write music so would work with him. He made more money bc she was Mrs Motola, and the star of the label than he would've if he wrote it alone & sold it to someone else.

  11. she did write all her 90's songs with walter & civilles & cole I don't think she writes so much now there are about four other writers attached to most of her recent songs.

  12. Like Enty said in his podcast, the only reason she got first choice on the songs is due to her husband at the time Tommy Motola. If she hadn't been married to him all her "hits" would have been for someone else.

  13. Maybe that talk show cut into her "composing songs" time?
