Blind Item #7

This permanent A-list mostly movie actor's very recent venture outside of a film franchise is poised to become a massive critical and financial disaster.

  1. Would that be Doolittle?

  2. Doolittle looks terrible.

  3. Yeah. Read a review that ended with "What’s amazing is that Gaghan didn’t drag in the cast of Cats to complete his misbegotten animal kingdom. Both of these movies have one thing in common: They should never have been made."

  4. How is this even a blind item? There's no gossip, just a prediction that Doolittle will be a flop, which EVERYONE has been saying for weeks.

  5. @Dave - not much else going on. *shrug*

  9. Lol at permanent A-. Good, maybe he goes back to acting? I miss him as a real actor. It won't be a total flop though, because kids will want to see it. Just no legs on it. Cats would give kids nightmares.

  10. Of course,with Enty's track record,maybe it will be a hit!

  11. Who ever told Downey that he had a proper British accent?? It is horrid.

The classic tax write off scam. RDJ needs to adjust for his earnings on the avengers.

Heart and soul is still his best movie.

  13. I still think these giant flops are some sort of tax scam or a way to move dirty money around.

  14. Poor Robert. I'll go see it anyway. And yes, I LOVE Heart and Souls! That "Walk Like A Man" scene where they're all strolling down the street together is fantastic. Also loved "Chances Are" despite the annoying Cybill Shepherd co-starring.

  16. RDJ will be fine. No one really critiqued his british accent in Sherlock. The third installment should be in production soon. He can afford multiple bombs after be in the Marvel universe for like 10 years. He will be fine.

  18. This story was out yesterday, they even tried to fix the movie by adding animal characters but still no love from the critics.

All the same, nobody is going to watch for plot or RDJ's acting, they want to see the talking animals!

    1. I read the books as a youngster in the early ‘60s. The best parts were the animals telling each other stories of their lives before they joined the doctor. The movies seem to focus more on the man.

  20. The only reason I want to watch it is for RDJ. Love him!

  21. Same @Low Key, he's a favorite of mine as well, as an actor and person. Plus, my children will enjoy it, I don't think it was meant to be some critics choice award winning film. Just saying.

  22. @Dave

What do you think is the more effective phrasing between those two?

1-"I think, based on the trailer and the early reviews, that Robert Downey Jr's Dolittle will flop."

2-"This permanent A-list mostly movie actor's very recent venture outside of a film franchise is poised to become a massive critical and financial disaster."

The right answer is 2, of course. Hiding one's personal opinion (and in this case some common sense observations and public information) as a blind item brings some secrecy to the proceedings. 1 is just the opinion of a nobody. 2 is the take from an actual industry insider who's making observations so acute that they can't name names or it would cause a huge meltdown.
Of course, it's ALREADY a massive critical disaster (19% on Rotten Tomatoes), and Enty isn't taking any particular risk, but that's how he rolls.

    Same thing with
A- "Actual physical violence at an after party as this A+/A list mostly movie actor who is an Academy Award winner/nominee said something to another man and got punched right in the gut so hard that the actor dropped to his knees. "
B- "Jeez, this Joaquin Phoenix who's just given his acceptance speech on TV, he must have a chip on his shoulder."

When you see pictures of a celebrity who looks disheveled or pale at an event and they have an history of substance abuse, just write a blind item about their relapse, etc. It's quite easy to do it, actually.

  23. Oh FFS Angela, could you try to be concise for once?

  24. How is RDJ not A List? He is one of the highest paid actors in Hollywood.

  25. OH, yikes. https://www.wsj.com/articles/universal-tries-to-escape-disaster-by-patching-up-dolittle-11579195165

And Angela - aren't you the one who tried to pretend you were a somebody on another blind item board? I saw that thread and it was hilarious. No one cares that you are THE Angela from CDAD. My god, but that was an embarrassing read for you.

  26. Who thought this remake was a good idea? His accent is hilarious. I can't believe the amount of money that was spent on this dud.

    ReplyDelete
  27. He was kind of boring on Joe Rogan. I watched the entire thing...didn't really find him that interesting. Bill Maher is on today..ugh.... I find non celebrity far more interesting.

  28. its crazy, RDJ has a lucrative franchise finished & enough money + established producer wife to do ANYTHING HE WANTS. like any movie.....

and he chooses this, this live action dr doolittle movie.

dude, wtf. are you back on coke?

he should have won an oscar for Chaplin, on a more positive note...

  29. Geez Angela someone's a bit uptight with a little too much time on her hands! I could only skim it! can you provide the condensed version next time?

  30. I feel certain that Doolittle will make a profit.

    People love talking animals.

  31. I love the original Doolittle. Never saw Heart and Souls. I'll watch both and maybe Chaplin too this weekend!

Kids may watch the new Doolittle. The Animal Channel would be a better choice, IMO.

I'm sure Robert Downey Jr will be fine in the end and I doubt He will need to do a Career Reassessment with His Team.

Like Kristen Stewart needs to do with Her's.

So I wouldn't start feeling too bad for Him.

I'm pretty sure His position in Hollywood is solid no matter what.
