Blind Item #3

This massive entertainment company is in dire financial straits and can't afford the payout to a city if they pull out of an upcoming huge event. So, they want the city to make the first move to cancel and then city would have to pay them.

  3. No way will the Olympics go on as scheduled. Later in the summer or even next year, when they might have a vaccine.

Agreed. A lot of IOC sanctioned events are cancelled. Athletes can’t train. There ain’t gonna be no Olympic trials either.

Why would NBC have to pay Tokyo or the International Olympic Committee? The networks that air the Olympic Games share broadcast footage & such because the IOC owns the footage.

I think the IOC has to cancel or postpone the games, not the city.

  5. How is Vince Mcmahon supposed to be a billionaire if he can't even bail out his show?

    1. you'll never see a billionaire using their own money to bail out their property. they don't want to pay taxes but they're perfectly happy for public money to go on keeping them in business

I think the last NASCAR event went on without anyone in the stands. That is crazy. Besides. Who wants to watch people drive in circles?

  7. @T.W.,NBC already paid, if they cancel, they forfeit the money. The IOC will be forced to cancel, though.

I forgot to say that NBC paid for the rights to broadcast the Olympic Games in America years ago. NBC will miss out on advertising revenue & take a hit but they will recover.

  8. NBC won’t be the only network screwed because of this.

I still think the WWE guess fits the blind better. We'll see.

  9. I live here in Tampa and this is 100% Wrestlemania

  10. I can't see the Olympics happening. Just the set up alone is massive. Laying cable alone takes weeks. I have many freelance film crew friends who have worked other Olympics, and they're on the fence as all other productions have shut down, and freelancers can't go on Employment Insurance like other workers. Colds and flu are taken very seriously on set, and this Covid-19 is whole other thing.
Also China won't be ready for test events next winter for the 2022 Beijing Olympics. There is a knock on effect, the IOC really needs NBC, and TV revenue.

  11. The way it is worded,it likely is Wrestlemania, Japan wouldn't be paying out. And Wrestlemania is in the beginning of April, everything is closed till then at least!

  14. I can understand about NBC losing advertising, but the blind said they would have to "payout the city" Thaat doesnt make sense for the Olympics, NBC pays the IOCC not the individual cities

  18. Laws are changing because of the virus, so chances are a clause like that won't be enforceable, and neither part will get a payout.

  19. It’s WWE but they are not in massive financial straits. They have a huge contract with Fox to broadcast their crap on Fox and FS1. The only reason McMahon hasn’t cancelled this yet is for insurance reasons. He doesn’t get any if he cancels, he does if the city pulls out. And he can reschedule it for later in the month since there are no sports, if he has to.

  20. Aren't there insurance policies or contractual clauses set up for instances like this -- circumstances beyond their control?

  21. But WWE cancelled first so this makes zero sense.
