I have written about this actress before and her accomplishments. It is a very impressive list. One thing that is less known about her is something that happened prior to many of her non acting accomplishments. I often wonder if she wasn't even more motivated after what she was forced to do by her husband. Her husband was a wealthy businessman and prior to emigrating to the United States, our actress lived with him in Europe. They were known for having fabulous parties where they would entertain the rich and powerful and the people that could make sure there was no red tape for his very red tape heavy business. It was at one of these parties that our actress was introduced to one of the most evil people that has ever walked this planet. Our actress was then told by her husband to sleep with the evil man or he would lose his business. Our actress did it and even was presented with a special souvenir he gave out only to those women he slept with.
I'm guessing the evil dude is Getty?

ReplyDeleteI love Old Hollywood blinds so much! I totally agree with Hedy Lamarr guess, but my evil guy guess is not Hitler (the range of his sexual life is still discussed between historians). Instead I will go with Mussolini (he was at their home in Vienna) or Goebbels (German Minister of Propaganda).

ReplyDeleteHedy Lamarr's parents were Jews who had converted to catholicism. Her four grandparents were Jewish. I doubt that Hitler would have been much entertained if he discovered later that the actress he had slept with belonged to the "Jewish race".
Honestly, I don't think the evil guy was any of the Fascist heads of state. They had enough women that were enthralled enough with them to not have to force anyone to sleep with them.

ReplyDeleteDefinitely Hedy, and I think it is also one of the top Nazis, though not Hitler himself. She was outrageously gorgeous, and they raped many Jewish women. I see it more about humiliation and control of both her and her husband.
I doubt Hitler would have slept with her. His kick wasn't sex. He was into other things.

ReplyDeleteIt should be added that Hedy Lamar did not patent her invention of frequency spread spectrum technology because she wanted it used against the Nazi's, it was a war time gift, and would have been worth billions now, yet she didn't. She really hated them, and we all have benefited from her. She should go down as the ubermensch, that he who shall not be named, thought that they were. How's that for a personal story arch? These are strange days that we're living through, stay positive.

ReplyDeleteAlso going with Hedy Lamar. But was Mussolini one of the most evil men to walk the planet? He was Saddam level at best. This sounds more like Hitler. But then again he wasn't really known as a lover of the booty. Goebbels was a scum bag but wasn't really technically involved with any of the genocides, his thing was propaganda. Heydrich maybe? He got offed in 42' but was a major architect of the Holocaust.
