Harry Morgan Has Died

Harry Morgan, the prolific character actor best known for playing the acerbic but kindly Colonel Potter in the long-running television series “M*A*S*H,” died on Wednesday morning at his home in Los Angeles. He was 96. I also loved him in Dragnet because he played a totally different character than Colonel Potter.

  8. This is one of those deaths about which we can actually just feel happy for him...96 is a fantastic run of it! :-) And along the way he made a lot of people happy. I still find MASH to be very soothing. RIP, Harry!

  9. He died on Pearl Harbor Day, too--fitting for Colonel Potter.
Besides, anybody who can play straight man to Jack Webb has my respect!

  10. RIP Harry.

I too find MASH very soothing (probably bc it was constantly on TV for most of my childhood in syndication) and also that Hawkeye is still one of the best characters ever on TV.

  11. Couldn't agree more @Figgy. Wow, how wonderful to make it all the way to 96.

I still love to watch MASH reruns too.

  13. I'm of two minds on him - he was arrested back in 1996 for wife beating while intoxicated - his wife didn't want to press charges but the cops did. I don't know how it played out in court, but I haven't really cared for him since then.
