National Enquirer Blind Item

WHICH legendary singer is so addicted to Popeye’s Fried Chicken that she had it delivered to a recent red carpet event? The aging Grammy winner mortified guests when she sat in a swanky hotel lobby chowing down on the greasy chicken straight from the box!

  4. Aretha ! That would be awsome...
In truth I love it also, I don't give in to that vice often, but yum...

  5. I don't see a problem with this; Popeye's is awesome!

  6. Yep-gotta be Aretha.

  7. Good for whoever this is. So she likes Popeye's, oh well. Good for her for eating it in the open and not giving a shit, lol. Just because you make a boatload of money doesn't mean that you can't occasionally eat greasy comfort food. :)

  8. How about Gladys Knight? She's back in the spotlight now.

  9. Think this one is Aretha

  10. Way to pick the black singers because it's fried chicken, guys... :P

  11. Popeye's has the best biscuits ever, yum, yum, yum!

  12. @EmEyeKay My boyfriend SWEARS by their biscuits. I've never been to a Popeyes, though there's one about 6 blocks from our apartment. I told him we could go, but he has to try White Castle (he's from Cali).

  13. That is stupid to say she's "addicted" to Popeye's chicken when someone saw her eat it in the hotel lobby one time. Derrrrr

  14. I think it is safe to say someone is addicted to a food item when they have it delivered to a red carpet event and eat it straight from the box. Diamonds & fried chicken is quite the image.

But let me say, I have had those biscuits and they ARE addicting!

My brother has been "addicted" to it for years. When he was in training(surger) he would go through the drive through on the way home. They didn't even ask what he wanted to order. They just said "he, xx, the usual?" Dude is 48 now and a heart attack waiting to happen!

  16. Fried Chicken is totally American.....

  17. @timebob I'd have food delivered to an event. Have you had catered dinner before? It's rare that any meat served doesn't suck the moisture out of your mouth. Also, I'm not too cool to eat out of a container.

(I'm super commenty right now - tired & not wanting to work.)

  18. Popeye's is good but nothing tops Ezell's Famous in central Seattle. OMG so good.

Oh yeah, on the Aretha train.

  19. @timebob
Point taken, but maybe she was just plain starved and is used to getting what she wants when she wants? Diva type behavior.
Anyways, you're prob right though, lol.

  20. @Amber - Mary J Blige is getting crapped on for doing a BK chicken ad. I have no idea why I am telling you that :)

    ReplyDelete
  21. @Amber - here's a tip. If they're only six blocks away, and you've never tried them, maybe you shouldn't. If I had a Popeye's that close to me, I would weigh 100 pounds more than I do now, easy. They're SOOOOOO GOOOOOOD.

@Comma Chaser - I used to get biscuits to go from Ezell's when I was pregnant. I thought they closed (?) Or am I thinking of that catfish place on Cherry (didn't someone run into it with their car?)

    ReplyDelete
  22. Riri.
Any bets on whether or not she also got the dirty rice?

  23. @Agent**lt I know! I understand she's trying to save her ass for the community, but c'mon. She knew what she was singing. It was a paycheck. This argument that they didn't use her the way she was lead to believe is total BS!

  24. i'm w/ MM on this one.

oh dear god....please let this be barbara streisand. i die just picturing this. hee.

  25. Aretha - but I'm more of a Church's Fried chicken gal.

    ReplyDelete
  26. @Amber-100% agreed. She is crapping on herself on this one.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Easy. Aretha. She has been known to plop herself on a divan in the enter of a party and ignore everyone while she chows down.

  28. @EmEyeKay. I think the Ezell's I'm thinking of was in the CD, something like 23rd/Union. It was basically across the street from Garfield HS. Always a line out the door. Not sure about the place you might be referring to, I want to say Waterman's, but that was a little north of Cherry/P'neer Sq.

Going up there in a couple of weeks, so now I'm kinda curious to see if any of this is there.

  29. Didn't Aretha have the bypass surgery though? Everyone I ever knew that had it done would be getting sick after a bunch of greasy chicken.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I read this with Reba in mind for some reason. It made me happy.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Ezell's is the best! (And they have locations other than the CD.)

I don't think we have a Popeye's in Seattle, but I'm pretty sure it's not as good as Ezell's. Love their potato salad and baked beans. Okay, now I'm going to have to stop by and get some for lunch.

    ReplyDelete
  32. @CommaChaser: that's the one I used to go to, but I really thought they closed. I'm not over there much these days.

@Casual Observer: As far as I know, we don't have Popeye's here. Then again, I thought we only had one Ezell's, soooo... Enjoy your lunch!

Why is Bette Midler in my brain? Whoever it is, I can't blame them, I am a fool for Popeye's, especially the red beans and rice.

  34. We don't have any...any..Popeye Chicken around here. Do they deliver...about 3 thousand miles is all. Now, I really want Fried Chicken, mashed potatoes, biscuits..Oh my.... I say Aretha..she is confident enough to chow down in front of people. You go Aretha...But safe me a piece. :-P

    ReplyDelete
  35. aahh..suppose to say "save" me a piece..but it won't be safe with me..LOL

    ReplyDelete
  36. What a sad blind. OH NO! Someone actually wants to eat food. GROSSSSS.

I'm going with Aretha for this one. Woman knows what she likes and definitely wouldn't give a damn. But still... this should be filed under "Hollywood is lame"

    ReplyDelete
  37. LOL - that struck me as odd. If you live in a town where pedophilia, orgies, wife swapping, pimping for roles, drug addiction and all manner of deplorable behavior is quite common, it's hard to picture anyone getting 'mortified' over someone eating fried chicken Oops! I'd forgotten for a second that the town is full of people who are literally starving themselves to look good. Never mind... Good for her!

    ReplyDelete
  38. The Queen of Giant Fat Boobs...oops, I mean the Queen of Soul.

Prolly why she wouldn't sing at Whitney's funeral--they refused to let her munch on a basket while sitting in the pulpit.

I'm thinking this is Diana Ross

  40. I didn't guess Aretha because she's black. I picked her because she's HUGE!!!

A "legendary singer" and "Grammy winner" ain't but so many people...

Damn right people are addicted to fast food. it's excitotoxin city, people. "The taste that kills."

I know a very large woman who swears she is addicted to Chipotle's salads/dressing.

This ain't a skinny person we're talking about here.

  41. And suddenly I miss living close to a Popeye's. Thank goodness we at least have a Bojangles close by!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Must have enough cash to have an assistant to bring it - I was not aware that any Popye's had delivery (but I guess it could be in Hollywood) - I vote Aretha. Babs is too uptight to ever do that - even if she eats it in private. It also could be Mariah since she IS aging and a bit of a legend and Grammy winner.

Oh, and trust me when I say White people will tear up some fried chicken, so race ain't got nothing to do with it! LOL

    1. Amen! This white girl LOVES her fried chicken! Love me some greens & black eyed peas, too...and I ain't talkin 'bout the band!

  43. Hey I love Popeye's too.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Really! Race has nothing to do with this! I too immediately pegged this as Aretha, girl doesn't give a damn what anyone thinks, and good for her! Except that she's heavy, so she should really watch it.

Shit every one loves fried chicken!

    *off to google Ezell's*

  46. I immediately thought Aretha. Babs seems far too stuck up to dig into America's favorite food. Now, when I ate meat, Bojangles was my love. Then Churches came along and tried to copy and then Popeyes but please forgive me if I got that all wrong. Bojangles used to ROCK. They had the best steak and egg and cheese biscuits. Chicken fried steak. Just yum! Their dirty rice was just wonderful and my ex would ask them to take it out, throw it on the floor and stomp on it to make it extra dirty. Cracked them up everytime he said it and it's just stupid but I'm a non-meat eater living my past right now. Dayum I wants me some chicken!

  47. Who doesn't like Popeye's? Now if it was KFC, I'd lose all respect for her.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I think that the commenter was just pointing out that usually people on this site guess white celebs for blinds unless the race is stated. Its just interesting that majority of the commenters picked aretha. Im not saying its racist just interesting!

  49. We called it Pye Pyes in Florida when I was in college....you could get a Big Gulp sized cup of red beans and rice for like...59 cents...or something crazy cheap like that....it was great......and it really supplemented the oranges we stole from the Tropicana groves...heheheeh

Good for who ever it was having Popeyes delivered to a hotel lobby!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Had Ezells about 6 months ago, but now gotta get me some more! They have spicy now too, so extra good stuff! Tomorrow THAT is what I am doing for dinner! After free wine at Wine World, mmmmmmmmmmm.

  51. If you're ever in Houston, TX try and stop by Frenchy's fried chicken. Creole/Cajun fried chicken and soul food sides. There's only a few locations around town, but the best "fast food" fried chicken hands-down!
