Blind Item #3

This foreign born A+ list mostly movie actor had a smile on his face, but was deadly serious when he told a trip of reporters, "F**k you, f**k you, and f**k you," when they tried to ask him questions after he left an official press conference for his new movie.

    Reynolds?
I noticed he totally skipped european promotion for the movie. Official excuse was the snow storm, but Jake was in NYC too and managed to leave and be there.

  5. How can RR be an A+ actor? He is average not extraordinary. His talent and looks elude me. When I think A+ I think Pacino, DeNiro(before he sold out), Leo D, definitely not a Ryan Reynolds or a Tatum Channing. Jmo.

I agree, but after Ddeapool's success, Enty calls him A +.

  7. He is mediocre at best as an actor. Not attractive at all.
    Deadpool was ok imo

None of the ads for Deadpool really told you who was behind the mask, and if you didn't bother to read articles it didn't matter. The masked image, and the fact it was a comic book character, were the selling points, not the fact that RR was the lead. It could have been anyone. He doesn't deserve A+, yet.

Rating are not solely based on talent, but on if an actor can carry and open a movie...and sadly with Deadpool RR has just done that...i would contest the " +" but the A list status, RN ...he has it

Enty always called RR A+. At a point ( some moments before Deadpool success),he even called former A+

Enty's ratings are a little screwy, in general, but the actual Ulmer rating scale is not typically tied to their acting ability (although it can influence the scale). It's related to their name recognition/bankability (i.e., how much is there name worth in terms of box office/merchandising/ratings/etc.).

When I worked in Hollywood for a brief time in a development department, the top sheet to every project was a 'coverage' sheet that had all 'attached' names to a project, and in the packet of pages attached to the coverage was always a breakdown of recent box office opening numbers, etc. for each attached actor, director, etc., and these numbers played a huge part in what type of budget the development department might earmark as an offer if they were bidding on a project. I remember there being this huge bidding war for a film that had been a hot script in Hollywood called 'Don Juan DeMarco.' Johnny Depp was attached, and when Marlon Brando and Faye Dunaway's name came into the picture, the bidding got crazy. New Line Cinema ended up overpaying for the project ($25 million for an 'indie' style film, which was huge money at the time), but it was because Depp was creeping up towards A-list at the time, and they way over-estimated what Brando and Dunaway (A-listers in their prime, but a long way from their prime) could draw.

  13. Except that it couldn't have been just anyone, because RR is the one who insisted that Deadpool be who he was. He's another asshole, but he's a smart one.

It's sort of like a murder of crows.

Thank you LiveYourLife for the interesting info.

Ryan Reynolds plays one type. The smarmy or "douche-y" "That Guy" character. Over-the-top smart-ass with the 8th grade one-liners. It worked for Van Wilder and it definitely worked for Deadpool. In fact, I think he resurrected his Van Wilder persona just for Deadpool.

Deadpool grossed $783 million plus, worldwide, on a $58 million budget. Like it or hate it, that definitely catapults Ryan Reynolds into the A+ stratosphere.

P.S. @LiveYourLife: I think the whole of the site would love to hear some more stories from the frontline, even if your career in Hollywood was brief. It's nice to get the inside perspective and back office dealings of what really goes on "behind the scenes" to get a movie made in Tinseltown.

Cool. I had no idea it was called the "Ulmer rating scale". Thanks for sharing with the class.
