No groupons for this permanent A list rapper. He has been buying up seats to his own concerts by the thousands to at least have the numbers look good. The reality is that the numbers might look good but the number of empty seats is staggering.
Def Jay - Kanye is not touring. Jay is defnitely not selling out the big arenas. SOmeone mentioned before - why not fill smaller venues instead of looking like assholes?
Because it's an ego thing... when you sell arenas and then have to downgrade your venue it is time to accept you have arrived at the downward side of the bell curve. Not prepared to do that apparently
Yup, this is definitely JayZ. I am with you @americanpanda, do the smaller venues! I know this touring model works for Snoop (thinking of another rapper in Jay's peer group). Hell, the last time I saw Prince was at a club in Seattle; expensive AF, but worth. Every. Penny. That man could perform.
I saw him live in 2013 at his recording studio in chanhassen Minnesota. I waited outside for hours, paid $50 and it was an intimate concert with like maybe 700 people??? He has the purple motorcycle from purple rain in the studio...no cell phones allowed so I hit mental pics n actually enjoyed the show bc I wasn't trying to tape everything.
Yes! They are always the best shows, @americanpanda! Another favorite of mine was seeing the Beastie Boys perform at a "secret" club show. I never would have thought that they would never tour again.
Now back to the blind. I don't think bey&jay are broke, but this little fiasco is beyond self-indulgent and will hurt financially. I wouldn't be surprised if we see Beyonce out on tour sooner rather than later. Someone in the family needs to recoup Jay's losses.
AND Nas. Nas can match Jay on ticket sales and probably makes the same on appearances. but, he keeps a litter profile so when he does something people pay more attention.

Well in the country I live in, some singers/mucisians pay for people to sit in and pretend to be their audience members to your show. There's this one singer who lives a disproportionately lavish lifestyle (allegedly the mistress of a coal baron dude/some royalty—IDK if this is true) and her whole "singing career" is [allegedly] really a front...
Anyway, I know this because my agent would send these last-minute BlackBerry messages "seeking audience members for so-and-so singer's show" (I'M NOT JOKING, literally that's how they would read). And she'd pay the equivalent of US$4.00 per head to sit in and pretend to be a paying concert-goer. In fact, I think my good friend's maid moonlights as a pretend-concert-goer at these "audience gigs" on weekends. People really like being in telly, even as an audience member.
Not trying to give any American rappers any ideas, tho. I don't recommend it. 😂😂😂😂
@Scandi, I believe it. It is the 'hire a crowd' phenomenon, and it is big business here in the USA. For a fee, they will send a crowd to your location to scream, holler, and make a big scene over you. Beg for your autograph, even faint. You can even get fake body guards and security guards with the package that you buy.
Celebrities and politicians, TV news networks, protest organizations, etc. use these services all the time. They pay up to as much as between $18 and $25 an hour to the actors. All you have to do is show up and act enthusiastic. Nightclubs sometimes hire them to make it look like they always have a long line of people waiting to get in.
So much of what we see and believe nowadays is completely fake.

It's Jay. The Tidal exclusive has murdered the reach of his record and with it, the amount of press he can generate, radio plays and therefore live ticket sales. He's locked into it as a founder of the service, too. It's cost him hundreds of thousands.

After 20+ years of hits, a major act shouldn't have trouble selling out an arena tour. All those well off 30/40 somethings have cash to spend. Previously we had green day selling poorly as well. Also swift doesn't need to inflate her record sales, her stadium tour will sell out in minutes when the tickets are released in a few weeks. Her fans are wealthy and suburban so can afford them.
If you are an arena act and start doing shows in smaller venues you have become a 'has been' for the press and no brand will want you for endorsements and stuff like that. That's why they clutch to the arena-act status, to protect an image of success. Sure, ego plays a role, but it's mainly about status en the food chain.
Taylor Swift sold over 10M copies of 1989 I don't see her buying her own record right after that, she knows how to cater her huge army of minions so they keep buying her records and the tickets for her concerts.
