Blind Item #13

No groupons for this permanent A list rapper. He has been buying up seats to his own concerts by the thousands to at least have the numbers look good. The reality is that the numbers might look good but the number of empty seats is staggering.

  3. Def Jay - Kanye is not touring.
Jay is defnitely not selling out the big arenas.
SOmeone mentioned before - why not fill smaller venues instead of looking like assholes?

    1. Because it's an ego thing... when you sell arenas and then have to downgrade your venue it is time to accept you have arrived at the downward side of the bell curve. Not prepared to do that apparently

  4. Yup, this is definitely JayZ. I am with you @americanpanda, do the smaller venues! I know this touring model works for Snoop (thinking of another rapper in Jay's peer group). Hell, the last time I saw Prince was at a club in Seattle; expensive AF, but worth. Every. Penny. That man could perform.

  5. @soft talker - those are always the BEST shows too. God I regret not seeing Prince live. I had a chance to once and I didn't take it. Ugh.

    1. I saw him live in 2013 at his recording studio in chanhassen Minnesota. I waited outside for hours, paid $50 and it was an intimate concert with like maybe 700 people??? He has the purple motorcycle from purple rain in the studio...no cell phones allowed so I hit mental pics n actually enjoyed the show bc I wasn't trying to tape everything.

  6. Kanye is not touring. Jay Z is and people are giving away tickets left and right.

  7. He could give them to charity and use it for the higher price deduction, fill the seats and cut your loses.

  8. This is definitely Jay Z. Even tickets going for $6 aren't selling.

I wonder where he gets the money from for this though. Wasn't there a blind here not long ago that both he and Beyonce are broke?

  9. Yes! They are always the best shows, @americanpanda! Another favorite of mine was seeing the Beastie Boys perform at a "secret" club show. I never would have thought that they would never tour again.

Now back to the blind. I don't think bey&jay are broke, but this little fiasco is beyond self-indulgent and will hurt financially. I wouldn't be surprised if we see Beyonce out on tour sooner rather than later. Someone in the family needs to recoup Jay's losses.

  10. Proof positive that Enty is 12 years old. Look Entward - Jay Z is not permanent A list just because he's been around for 20 years, 'kay?

  11. Jay Z is most definitely permanent A list at this point. Like someone else said, his only peer would be Snoop.

    1. AND Nas. Nas can match Jay on ticket sales and probably makes the same on appearances. but, he keeps a litter profile so when he does something people pay more attention.

im glad for snoop but he only got his shit together I the last 6-8 years. they were blowing it monitizing snoops brand before then. new management.

  12. Buying thousands of seats for your own concerts seems to be a losing proposition to me and something only a fool would do.

  13. @Soft talker are you talking about London in 94???

But back to Jay and Bey - they're not broke - I just think their massive egos can't handle that they aren't as popular as they think they are. Bey is, not wso much Jay

  14. I wonder if he gives extra effort to put on an awesome show when he buys up thousands of tickets so that he pleases himself?

  15. Jay Z didn't like that Digital Music article. LOL!

  18. Well in the country I live in, some singers/mucisians pay for people to sit in and pretend to be their audience members to your show. There's this one singer who lives a disproportionately lavish lifestyle (allegedly the mistress of a coal baron dude/some royalty—IDK if this is true) and her whole "singing career" is [allegedly] really a front...

Anyway, I know this because my agent would send these last-minute BlackBerry messages "seeking audience members for so-and-so singer's show" (I'M NOT JOKING, literally that's how they would read). And she'd pay the equivalent of US$4.00 per head to sit in and pretend to be a paying concert-goer. In fact, I think my good friend's maid moonlights as a pretend-concert-goer at these "audience gigs" on weekends. People really like being in telly, even as an audience member.

Not trying to give any American rappers any ideas, tho. I don't recommend it. 😂😂😂😂

  19. @Scandi, I believe it. It is the 'hire a crowd' phenomenon, and it is big business here in the USA. For a fee, they will send a crowd to your location to scream, holler, and make a big scene over you. Beg for your autograph, even faint. You can even get fake body guards and security guards with the package that you buy.

Celebrities and politicians, TV news networks, protest organizations, etc. use these services all the time. They pay up to as much as between $18 and $25 an hour to the actors. All you have to do is show up and act enthusiastic. Nightclubs sometimes hire them to make it look like they always have a long line of people waiting to get in.

So much of what we see and believe nowadays is completely fake.

We live in a very strange world.

  20. When Frank Sinatra had his solo debut in New York, a long time ago, his manager hired a few girls to act hysterical and faint in the middle of his shows. In turn, actual fans started to do it themselves. That's how Sinatra got more attention, as the press wrote about those "bobby-soxers."

  22. @americanpanda - the Beastie Boys show I am referencing was a 2007 show at the Crocodile in Seattle.

  23. Well Taylor Swift's camp buys up her music with her own money left and right so her numbers look inflated as well, sooooooo.

  24. I think people are getting tired of celebrating thugs and deviants.

  25. How in the world is he making any money if he performs concerts but is buying all the tickets??

  26. Prince and Beastie Boys both very high on my list of regrets...would have loved to see both when I had the chance 😕

  27. It's Jay. The Tidal exclusive has murdered the reach of his record and with it, the amount of press he can generate, radio plays and therefore live ticket sales. He's locked into it as a founder of the service, too. It's cost him hundreds of thousands.

    1. Nah, jay z is a played out sellout, no real rap fan wants to hear jay z anymore. That’s the truth and reality. Tidal is a nice excuse but he tried a return to real rap this year with that 4:44 album and it was boring as shit. Rap in general is nowhere near what it was before 97. I mean all these new cats suck, chance the crapper is complete garbage, Kendrick is zzzzzz. I’m bored just writing about it

  28. After 20+ years of hits, a major act shouldn't have trouble selling out an arena tour. All those well off 30/40 somethings have cash to spend. Previously we had green day selling poorly as well. Also swift doesn't need to inflate her record sales, her stadium tour will sell out in minutes when the tickets are released in a few weeks. Her fans are wealthy and suburban so can afford them.

    ReplyDelete
  29. If you are an arena act and start doing shows in smaller venues you have become a 'has been' for the press and no brand will want you for endorsements and stuff like that. That's why they clutch to the arena-act status, to protect an image of success. Sure, ego plays a role, but it's mainly about status en the food chain.

Taylor Swift sold over 10M copies of 1989 I don't see her buying her own record right after that, she knows how to cater her huge army of minions so they keep buying her records and the tickets for her concerts.
