Real Snake On A Plane

I don't know why this guy could not leave his Egyptian cobra at home, but a man snuck his cobra on a plane from Cairo to Kuwait. The cobra bit him on the hand. The cobra then got loose on the plane and started slithering down the aisle and in between and under seats. Yeah, this really happened and I am going to have nightmares thinking about it. The plane was forced to make an emergency landing. The guy was taken to the hospital and discharged himself early.

You would be surprised by the stuff people try to travel with. When I was in Peru, we were flying from Lima up to some airport near Ecuador. At security they have a huge clear box where they dump things they've confiscated. Among things I saw were: macheteS (multiple), swords, blow guns/darts, spears, etc. I don't quite understand why these were things people felt they needed to stow in their overhead compartment, and couldn't pack in their suitcases. Down there, we didn't have to pay baggage fees. So strange!

Oh God, I need to look at all those Snakes on a Plane posters again. The one with Pee Wee is my favorite.

So, all kidding aside, he was probably smuggling the cobra, right? Would explain why he checked himself out of the hospital.

Lol @amber! While I was in college in Boston, last minute was invited to Egypt and Greece so I had to renew my passport fast. I can't remember all the details of losing my purse with the first passport I just got, but I had to go to the federal building. I walk up to the metal detector, see the sign about all the no-no's and tell the security guard "brb". I went across the street to a Burger King. Took my brothers Bowie knife That he didn't know I took, and pepper spray out of my purse and hid them behind a toilet seat. Went back, got my passport papers n retrieved my goodies from the toilet!

@kat - Hahaha! Swear to God, I did a really similar thing. I had to go to court for an estate thing, and I have a switchblade in my purse. I completely forgot it was in there and sent my purse through the scanner. The guard couldn't figure out how to get it open (the trigger was kind of hidden), so he let me bring it back to my car. THEN. I had a Cutco folding knife in my purse when I went to the National Archives. Completely forgot about it, and the security lady made me promise not to stab my friend until after we left. Oy.

Wow that's funny @amber! But do u know how to use a knife? I told my story back at my dorm to this guy who wanted to be a stuntman. He was HYSTERICAL! But he told me that me not knowing how to use a knife against a person who was trained in "knifing" is more dangerous than if I was unarmed. He showed me one move where I punch with my left hand in his face to distract while at the same time stab his stomach. But I dont carry it bc I'm too scared now. Oh I did have to toss my pepper spray. Where so u buy pepper spray now?

@kat - I believe we have a military/police supply store where civilians can shop. I've never been properly trained in knives, but I'm not super worried about it. I'm not sure why I even had them on me. I just kind of like weapons in general. Hah.

And this got past security how exactly?

Man if I was around when this happened, I'd have probably discharged early...

Thank you Cobra Commander!

@whocares - people smuggle live animals all the time. Birds come to mind, but I'm sure anything with resale value is fair game. Ha ha - fair game!

@kats I got mine at Dick's Sporting Goods!

katsm0711 said...

Oh thanks @reno! I think all the Dicks closed around here but at least you pointed me in the direction of a sporting goods store! Thanks bc I do my best to avoid scary places bc of an injury I'm unable to run from a predator and I would feel safer with pepper spray since its effective but sort of harmless. In highschool a friend had it and we were outside "playing". Another friend sprayed it away from everyone just to see it work I guess. Then the wind blew it right into another friends face :(we laughed until we realized he was really in pain :((

You can also order it on Amazon I believe!

katsm0711 said...

You're right @reno it is on Amazon! Thanks I wouldn't have thought to look there. I might get a couple for Xmas presents. I'd feel better knowing my mom has it on her. All I do is hold my keys so the teeth come out between my fisted fingers. Like I could actually punch someone hard enough for that to do any damage. You may have just saved my life @reno. Next time someone disagrees with a comment of yours here I totally got your back ;)
