Taylor Swift's Parents Are A Pain

The NY Post has an article today about some people from who generally stay in the background. Taylor Swift's parents. The couple who are separated, can't stand each other, but one place they remain united is keeping as much control of Taylor Swift's life and career as possible. They have made sure, by, periodically replacing senior management at their company which runs Taylor's career and changing agents and forcing out Taylor's publicist that they remain the sole beacon in Taylor's career. Even though the parents can't stand to be in the same room as each other, they both want to make sure that Taylor has no one else to rely on professionally other than them.

A quick comparison was made between them and the mother of Katherine Heigl. Katherine's mom has the same kind of management style. You cut off people when they start to get too close or if the client is starting to listen to the advice of others. It is a save your job and income mentality regardless of who gets in the way. To me, that is just taking you down a road where your child ends up hating you. In Katherine's case she only deals with her mother. With Taylor, she has two parents who can't stand each other and when they run out of people to dismiss there are only going to be the two of them and one of them eventually will make a play to get rid of the other parent which is going to cause an unruly mess.

I sometimes wonder if it is because of this style of parenting and this effort to sabotage those who get too close to Taylor that results in her merry go round of friends and boyfriends and why no one ever seems to stick around for long. Are they behind it? Did she learn the tactics from her parents?

Swifty seems to be on a good track, it not as if she's pulling a Miley or Lilo so something must be working.

In the meantime, besides her obvious problems with relationships, she seems to be the model daughter any parent would be proud of. If I was a parent, I'd do my best, if my child was in that fucking industry, to protect her from the sharks that infest the waters as much as possible.

OR they are just trying to protect her from hanger-oners. It could be good parenting in a difficult situation (the separation)

Someone has let old Enty out of his sarcophagus.

Hey Cleo!

I bring my children up with the expectation that they will become independent adults. At some point I'll not be here and to rely on me, and only me (and their dad) is not particularly healthy. I like Swifty , bless her. But she does move spectacularly fast with relationships (of all kinds, not just men).

Hey, looks as though they raised her right.

Her mom has Hulk hand.

Whoops, morning everyone.

Good Morning!!

Eh, better this than the Cyrus/Lohan way of parenting. Good on them for protecting her.

All good pimps alienate the ones around you, Squinty's parents no different.

*shrugs* If it ain't broke, don't fix it?

Swift definitely ain't broke. Her net worth is ~$150 million.

Her parents may be the biggest holes that ever assed, but they've so far managed to navigate her career through the transition from teen Country sweetheart to adult Pop superstar without a single "leaked pics" scandal or (public) trip to rehab. Very, very tricky territory.

And who's to say that all those firings aren't really to weed out staff who suggest inane shit like, "All I'm saying is a nip slip could really help get the Maxim crowd's attention."

I'm with TTM. Better to be the one managing your daughter's business even if it can be difficult to separate the parenting/loving bit from the business managing bit.
It can be hard to find boundaries but at least it's not some businessman wanting to get as much money as possible from a young woman.
Like her or not but Taylor seems to have a good head on her shoulders.

I'd rather have her parents than Lohan's parents.

It's a tough business, so I don't think I could fault the rents for being hard-asses.

Disclaimer: I loathe Taylor Swift's music. She does seem to have it together.

At least they aren't smoking pot with her like Bieber/Lohan/Cyrus, but really this is only gonna last so long until Tay kicks them to the curb.

I think she's kind of lucky that she has her parents looking out for her best interest, including her fortune. She seems to form immediate intimacy relationships that fizzle out quickly and unhappily. I really liked seeing her with Connor Kennedy. I realize this is stupid.

Taylor strikes me as the controlling type as well. I wouldn't be surprised if mom and dad have exactly as much input into Taylor's career and personal life as she allows them to have. Pretty sure she is a little bossy pants, and that gives me such a boner. And I like her straight hair and no clown lipstick look here. And I always have to look up "career", is it 2 r's or 2 e's. Can never remember.

+1
They've also protected her from the pedophile culture that is so pervasive in the entertainment world.

@Harry: when talking about young bims, just use "carear" or "ca-rear". Subtle troll to get all the broads thinking about you thinking about the bim's bum. Like when I use "butt" instead of "but" sometimes.

they just look rude and pushy. especially the mom.

NaughtyNurse said...

Whatever they are doing, it is working, because her career has been phenomenal, and she is a class act.

Thanks for the tip, and I'll tell you something Count: Taylor is really starting to grow on me. She's mid 20's now and fucking gorgeous. Maybe not the most voluptuous chick out there, but evereything else is a-ok. Except that red lipstick she wears a lot. Really don't like that.

I don't know Harry. Chick need to have ass or titties, this girl got neither. Here is the Baby Stegosaurus pic I posted the other day, in case anyone missed it. SFW

Parents that stay involved in their childs career probably make easy targets for their enemies. Don't know if they are good or bad but don't really believe some rag like the NY post has to say about them. Curious that we have never heard about their antics before and Swift has been big for several years. Sounds like someone wants a piece of Taylor and the parents are not cooperating so the smear begins.

Unknown said...

If it is just a smear campaign that is unfortunate because now it will be out there forever.

@texas, I agree. If they hate each other as much as the article implies, how do they collude to control? Never knew her parents were even in charge of her career, much less that they're divorced and controlling.

I think Taylor is very pretty, has excellent fashion sense, and has a nice voice. Her songs, though, they bug me to no end. I want to get a pee-chee folder and start coloring in the athlete's shorts whenever she starts singing.

Topper Madison said...

There's sure a hell of a lot of negative assumptions being made in this article, isn't there?

Personally, I could understand two people uniting for their daughter's sake--no matter how much they might dislike each other.

Feh. Non-story.

@7 her dad bought huge interest in big machine records so they would sign her . So dad technically owns her label and mom is her momager.

Fiona said...

TTM would it sound too snooty to say "hangers-on?"

My mom used to say interfering people were "shit stirrer uppers" - I have no clue how to fix that one!

@Harry Knuckles said "And I always have to look up "career", is it 2 r's or 2 e's. Can never remember."

Um, actually, it's both :-)

Eh....they must be doing something right. TS was the highest paid entertainer last year and we have yet to see the first nude selfie or sex tape.

I don't see Swift as having it all together. She's a woman in her mid 20's who has never had a real relationship and has no real friends. Everything she does in life is calculated and staged for the cameras.

Parents being controlling and over-involved with their adult offspring's lives and careers is always a big red flag.

MrWolf said...

They didn't protect her while she was fucking filthy John Mayer when she was 19 and he was 36 and all of her friends are Disney stars and drug addicts.

You can see Taylor's career direction changed about 18 months ago and it's not a good change.

I'd bet almost anything that she's one of the ones who winds up broke.

O'Really said...

I disagree. Taylor is a gifted songwriter, not just a performer. Girl can turn heartbreaks into gold records like no man's business. I see her being in it for the long haul. I'm sure she'll stumble a few times along the way but I don't see a full crash and burn. I hope not anyway, I actually like her.

Unknown said...

Come on MrWolf- she has a net worth of $150 million and makes millions ($50m last year). She doesn't have a posse she is funding so very unlikely she winds up broke - maybe heartbroken and alone but definitely not broke.

On the other hand, Taylor has not gone down the path Lohan or MIley has so they must be doing something right. I could understand her parents wanting to keep her safe from the sharks and sleaze that infests the industry especially with her starting at 16.

Highly doubt she will wind up broke, her father is an investment banker and has taught her how to save and invest.

FlirtyChick74 said...

Her parents seem to be levelheaded and on the right track. It says a lot when two parents who can't stand each other can put their differences aside and come together for the sake of their daughter. Plus I think that they know her character and her ability to bond with people too quickly so they're even more protective.
