Lots of fighting going on between this A-/B+ list mostly movie actor who is an Academy Award winner/nominee and his back in the day A- list actress wife. Apparently she got offered quite the part and he told her to turn it down or they would break up. I guess he is insecure. I'm not sure. She did end up turning it down and the project turned out to be a huge hit which is even making things worse between them.

Insecure? Sounds like a control freak, she might have been better off if he did leave. Can't think who this is , rating must be way off.
The rating is off but Ibthought of Harrison Ford-Calista Flockhart(A list television). She's actually a great actress imo.

I first thought of Michael Douglas,CZJ, but no way even Enty could call him less than A list.
And CZJ isn't back in the day yet.

Cates was a well known magazine model who happened to land a role in Fast Times at Ridgemont High for the fame she brought to a relatively unknown cast. I can't think of anything that would make her anywhere near A -List as an actress. As a human being I assume she gets high marks. Because I don't think she values the Hollywood life I am guessing that wouldn't be a problem for them and this isn't them

Ummm...Phoebe Cates was in one of the most iconic scenes in movie history and was single handedly responsible for leading a generation of boys into puberty. She was most definitely A-list.
Phoebe Cates was in Lace, which was a huge TV movie, she was also in the Gremlins movies, which were huge, and she was in Bright Lights, Big City, in addition to Fast Times, so yes, for that time, in the 80's, she was A list. People knew who she was.
I agree with the Cates/Kline guess. Makes me sad though because I always liked KK
I wonder what role she was offered since it says the project went on to be a hit. I bet it was Winona's role on Stranger Things. The 80s nostalgia would make that casting a no-brainer
The only guess here making sense is PC/KK, none of the other actresses are barred from taking jobs, they all have recent credits. And my understanding has been KK wanted PC to be a homemaker from the beginning.
If this is true, is Kevin Kline over 60 years old? Because that smacks of old white guy control issues. The lady of the house cooks meals, and cleans the house.

I was always sorry there wasn't more Phoebe in films or TV. She was just adorable, and as she got older still looks good. She had such a natural acting style that with continuous work could definitely have improved. If this is her, I'm sorry to hear this
I don't think it was Cates/Kline until someone mentioned Stranger Things.. this is absolutely the right guess.
Phoebe Cates was also in Shag aka one of the greatest films ever made!
He's in his 60s now, but would have been 30s when it happened.
