John Lennon's Killer Up For Parole

On Tuesday morning sometime, Mark David Chapman will have his seventh parole hearing. Mark shot John Lennon to death in December 1980 in front of John's apartment building. He was sentence to 20 years to life in prison. I think if he had not killed John Lennon he would be out by now. At this point, what does the guy do if he does get out. He has been in jail for over 30 years, and probably can't get a job because who would want to hire the killer of John Lennon. A decision by the parole board is expected later in the week. Do you want to be a member of the parole board who let out the killer of one of The Beatles?

On one hand, it sickens me that the public pays for his life in prison. On the other hand, it sickens me that this fucking monster took John Lennon away from us. I don't know that I'll ever be over that.

My vote is keep his ass in jail.

Keep him in jail...
Yoko & Sean will appear to speak before the board.

My mom talks about that night hearing the sirens and then in the morning hearing that John was murdered. She said at that moment her childhood ended.

He will never get out

Yoko has been diligent about voicing her concerns

This is why we have the death penalty. I mind that tax dollars are funding the parole hearing. I don't mind feeding him in his cage. He is allowed way too much time out of jail. Holidays with his family and more. He needs to be warehoused and forgotten. No cable. No air conditioning. Stale bread and water supplemented by the occasional cockroach. Cold showers. And plenty of alone time.

Whew! Better now.

Its just like the Manson murderers saying they would be out if their crime was not so publicized and connected to the name Manson.

Trouble is, part of the reason this (and the Manson) crime was committed is because the killer(s) wanted the notoriety. Being in prison for longer because you killed a "name" is part of that.

Don't come back now and say "Whoops, I didn't mean for it to make the papers and have the public completely against my release."

New York State has no death penalty and from the 60's through the 80s handed out really confusing, open-ended sentences for nearly every crime committed, from petty robbery to murder. Chapman got one of them, but anybody who knows anything about the New York State parole board knows that he ain't getting out, this year or ever. Virtually no one with a murder conviction does. So I think that Enty's "if he had not killed John Lennon he would be out by now" is untrue. There are men in the NYS prison system that are nobodies who killed nobodies back in the 70s, and they're still in prison, going through the exact same parole-hearing-every-two-years cycle that thus guy is.

I'm not a fan of Yoko. I would even say I have very negative feelings toward her and think she's a narcissistic, manipulative, predatory bitch....but I have to give her credit for making the trip to speak to the parole board each time they consider letting this piece of shit out of jail. No doubt she is willing to do anything to keep him behind bars.

too bad NY doesn't have the death penalty. Then we wouldn't be having this conversation.

Say what you will about Yoko, but she has lived out her remaining years in honor of John's memory. Compared to Courtney Love honoring Kurt's memory....LOL

Wow, good point, Brenda. She has actually been really classy in that regard.

I want to see John Oliver starring in the (best)worst Lennon bio ever.

It is absurd. Had his victim been anyone else in the city, he would have gone home a long time ago.

Let him go. Or keep everyone else locked up for just as long.

I am amazed at the reasoning- " if he killed anyone elae he wld be out"- who wants ANY murderer walking the streets?!! He is also mentally ill. He needs to stay where he is forever. And fo not even get me started on the insane nutjob ono is.

Do not. I might need a snack, lol

Not a fan of John Lennons but his killer will likely try to kill someone else if he decides to stop his meds.

Do we know anything about Mark David Chapman's behaviour in prison? Has there been any change in attitude or remorse? Or is he still nuts claiming that a book made him do it?

I'll bet if he gets out he'll get a reality show.

Sarcasm alert- Thank you Liberal Dems. for putting an end to capital punishment. Now victims and their family members get to ride the crazy roller coaster of emotions dealing with evil perpetrators that are still alive and a danger to society.-end

If this had happened in Texas Chapman would have been worm food years ago. And the victims could have moved on.

This is bizarre - my Dads girlfriend from high school lived on the same street when Lennon was killed and she unfortunately passed away last week from a brain anuerism....Lennon was her favorite. This is the third Lennon post I've seen in the past week....just bizarre
RIP Linda

who cares - he's not getting out, DUH! he should stay in as punishment for not getting Yoko.

I would want to be on the parole board, because I believe that Mark David Chapman could re-offend.

He's obviously delusional, and that likely hasn't changed.

All he needs is a knife or a gun, and another target. Maybe John Lennon's children or grandchildren this time. The police can't afford to watch him 24/7.

It might be safer for him in jail, as he was responsible for the murder of a beloved figure.

Up for parole? Sure: in theory.
Millions of Beatles fans can't be wrong. That guy will never see the light of day ever again. I'm fine with that.
