Sally Struthers Arrested For Drunk Driving

Somehow Sally Struthers got cast in a stage production of 9 to 5. If you have never seen the movie or the stage show, it involves three women in their 30's who hate their boss and kidnap him with the intention of making him see the light of day from his sexist ways. In his absence they run the office. That casting person in Maine must have really wanted to fill their 50 seat theatre to cast Sally Struthers. Anyway, Sally was partying after a show and got pulled over by police around 12:30 a.m. yesterday and was charged with Maine's version of DUI and posed for the happiest mugshot ever. They call it OUI which is probably to confuse all the people from Quebec who come to Maine and get pulled over who are drunk and then have the following conversation with the police in Maine.

Police - Well, I am going to charge you with OUI
Quebec driver - Oh, OUI, OUI, thank you. Au revoir. (and then drives away)

Sally says she is innocent of the charges and will continue to say that until she makes a plea deal and then will say she just chose to plead that way so she could move on to the dinner theatre production of Cannonball Run she has scheduled for Bakersfield.

Wow, Sally's looking pretty ate-up. Not too bad for her age, though, I'd say.

At least she's working !

No sympathy for a DUI, but Sally has to pay her bills, too. So what if it's dinner theatre? At least she's working. She's gotta work.
And I never see her on the starving children charity commercials anymore...

Agent--we crossed! haha! Nice sentiment!

If we all donate just $1 a day, we this poor, sad former star can get out of jail and live a good life again.

I looked it up - she's actually been doing a lot of theater work. Good for her if it keeps her busy, but not out of trouble....

Just because it's Maine doesn't necessarily mean it's rinky-dink. The Ogunquit playhouse has been around for years and has a pretty solid reputation. It's not dinner theatre. I do agree she might be an odd choice for that particular play.

Maine's OUI (operating under the influence) law is tougher than a lot of other states' laws...you can get arrested even if the car isn't running. They'll release her breathalyzer results eventually and people will know if she was loaded.

I just felt the need to stick up for my state. It bugs me when people equate "Maine" with "redneck." Is everyone in Kentucky a hillbilly?

It wasn't that long ago that she was guest starring on Still Standing. I used to love that show.

Sorry I implied she was currently doing dinner theatre--What I meant was so what if she EVEN had to do dinner theatre...I realize it was inelegant. I apologize.

I don't think anyone here insulted Maine, have they? I know within New England, they're made fun of, but in my part of the country, Maine is considered positively chi-chi!

libby said...

Crap, maybe ENTY insulted Maine. d'oh. I was afraid you thought I was. Need COFFEE! hahhaha

Jennifer H. said...

Yes. Yes, they are.

As an Okie, I am an expert in these matters. Just ask my Uncle Daddy and my Aunt Mama.

I think it was Canada tbat got the insult. Eh?

Great minds can think alike , Lib !

Also, OT: The Master was supposed to open in FL this weekend but has been delayed... they had a little article re security at the film's release due to HQ in Clearwater.

Meg I grew up in Cohasset's South Shore Music Circus (theater in the round, in MA). The best experience. Wish they had more venues like that and Ogunquit!

libby said...

Yeah maybe, Jennifer.
My mother's side is from KY.

Meg said...

@Libby -- no, you're totally fine, but thank you. I was referring to Enty's remarks, which were probably intended to be funny, but were (to me) insulting.

@Jennifer H. -- you are HILARIOUS. :) I actually snorted aloud when I read Uncle Daddy.

Ah those "Maineiacs" they do their own thing:) Don't hate I have family that lives there! Of course I dont' associate with them though:P

Sally is actually an accomplished stage actress. And she likes to work. Everyone I know who has ever worked with her LOVE this woman. They say that she is hard-working, dedicated and nice to everyone. So why the sarcasm, Enty? There are many out of work performers who would love the chance to tour with a musical!

I know I can look it up but I like the answers you all give, who is Sally Struthers. I only know the name from her parody on South Park...

Dinosaurs!!! She was not the mama! He he

The mugshot is hilarious! I'm thinking she looks pretty awesome for her age.

I haven't seen the movie in years, but wasn't there an older woman character who was like an officer manager and was suspicious of the three women? Perhaps that's her role. Actually, the ages of the women in that movie were irrelevant - one could just as easily have been 60ish.

Sally Struthers played the daughter in All in the Family; was a huge tv star in the late 70s/80s. Now I feel old :-/

Sally Struthers became famous portraying Archie Bunker's cute, dizty, hippy daughter on "All in the Family". She was married to Mike "Meathead". If she hadn't gained weight, I am sure she would have had more acting roles and today's generation would not know her only as the fat lady from South Park.

Those eyes look a little red. All in all I think Sally looks pretty darn good. Kudos to her for being a working actress.

Some of our young junkies could only dream of having a career that kept them in front of a paying audience for so long.

Sherry said...

Yeah my thought is she's still working the old gal and good for her! I'll bet she had ONE glass of wine and the limit may be like .04, .06? Don't know but I'll bet she wasn't .20 like that bozo the other day!

Michael said...

Wow! I finally can share a personal story that involves a celebrity article! I met Ms. struthers almost twenty years ago in Nashville in a hotel elevator. She was LIT! Her eyes were redder than Lohan's original hair color. She was very nice but extremely drunk and could barely stand (swaying ALOT).

Agent**It said...

Del, yes ! Can you imagine some of today's "celebrated" actors and singers having to go live before an audience? It's such a different and more enriching experience.

Lol @ Jennifer

The trailer for that movie looks fantastic! Can't wait to see it

Del Riser said...

@Agent, really, can't you just see the flop sweat and OMG, no auto tune???

Every single one of these young kids should save every freakin' penny they make and hope to hell someone wants to see them in twenty years.

All about Eve said...

Not many of the hot actors and actresses of today can pull off doing live theatre! Wasn't Katie Holmes eviscerated by the critics recently when she tried to do Broadway?

And I agree that live theatre so much better. Just saw Mary Poppins for the second time this weekend and it's always a good experience.

Agent**It said...

Del, I watched the guy who sang God Bless America at the Red Sox/Yanks game 9/11.All I could think of was who can sing A capella today.

Del Riser said...

Agent, other than Adelle, not many.

We just opened The Smith Center For The Performing Arts here in Vegas, a gorgeous Art Deco building. I'm excited to go and see a show!

Agent**It said...

One more reason to enjoy Vegas:)

Yeah, Enty, why the Maine snark? Did someone spit in your lobster roll or what?

KY Redhead Grrrl said...

Seriously, the OUI joke cracked me up! ROFL...makes you wonder why a state would chose to call that violation something different, after all, wouldn't you want the charge to be obvious to anyone who heard that reference. But loved the joke!!!

Popnursing said...

1.) The fact Enty had to explain the plot of 9-5 made me feel really old.

2.) Seachica, I got your joke. :)

She can ask help from DUI lawyer for her not guilty plea. DUI lawyers take charge of the process and finding the right solutions to the problem.
