Blind Items Revealed

July 17, 2013

She will talk about it now. Sometimes. She has to be in a good mood and you have to catch her at just the right time. I have known her forever, and even I don't know everything there is to know. She says it started off great and that she was shocked to be the focus of this guy who at the time seemed to be at the center of the universe. He was A list. He was movies. he was everywhere. He was in everything and people loved him and worshiped him and here he was, dating her. Not just dating her but romancing her and convincing her to leave the guy she was with because he was going to be next to her forever and never leave and everything he said was wonderful. That was the thing though. A lot was words.

When they started dating, the whole e-mail thing was new, and cell phones were great, but texting was not something you did all the time. He was on sets and word would get back to her about the women he was seeing, but then he would call her every night and they would talk and he would make it right. That is the thing. he would always make it right. When she would actually catch him cheating he would send over huge presents. She used to be almost A list. She trashed her career for him because he would keep telling her they were going to get married and she should prepare for it so she would turn down work during that time period and then he would cancel the wedding a month or two before, just to mess with her. He told her franchises were dumb so she walked away from one and turned down another just because she always did what he said.

They had a lot of breakups but she would always take him back. She was the one fighting. he was always with someone else or several people and she would have to work to get him back and then he would hurt her again. Even after the split was finally permanent, the scars were there. It took almost a year for every year they were together for her to start feeling normal again. Normal enough to start talking about it. I know there is more, but it comes out very slow. She does enjoy the fact his career has stalled. He has probably dropped to B+ although he usually is the lead in movies he stars in. She has moved back up to B- again and has moved on. She does not know what she will do if she runs into him. Last time she saw him she hid in her car for an hour until she was sure he had gone.

Way harsh, Tai.

I saw him at a My Bloody Valentine concert a couple months ago---he is not aging well so keep your head up Neve! Shes a good ol Guelph girl..

RJ said...

I've always had a feeling he was shady. Good to know that I can trust my gut.

Seven of Eleven said...

Neve was in four of the Scream movies, so I guess she didn't put too much stock in the "franchises are dumb" opinion.

surfer said...

Exactly what I thought, Seven.

jane3113 said...

Wasn't there a story about him shitting his pants while filming a war movie and making a crew member dispose of them? Since that story I have my doubts about him.

sandybrook said...

What's she doing now to move her back up to a B? She had to do nude scenes to get parts five yrs ago and I think she did one French film and I hear nothing anymore. She should do Tv if she isn't.

surfer said...

Also, she has a few marriages under her belt, so I would take this blind with a grain of salt.

AKM said...

I will always love Lloyd Dobler, but I am one of many who confused Cusack with that character. Kinda heartbreaking. And all of the Chicago peeps say how sweet and unassuming Joan is. Pity.

jane3113 said...

She walked away from Scream, hence the time between 3 and 4. I wonder what she turned down?

J-Lo said...

Wow- wasn't expecting that. Sad.

Clearly the guy sounds like a dick. But what is it with these women and their lack of self respect?

RangersGirl said...

it KILLS me he is such a douche. Used to love him. His early movies were my jam, especially Say Anything. Damn you Cusack!

elise said...

According to the blind, she was aware of his ongoing cheating almost from the get-go. I feel badly things didn't work out for her, but I'm not buying the whole he's a monster and she's a martyr spin this is being given.

Neve seems like a great person. Hope for the best for her.

There you go supapimp, that says it all.I have always loved Cusak but apparently he's become a grade A major jerk. Not like I'm his type anyway. Oh what the hell. He's a prince in my fantasies.

Kassandra said...

He's always had a dickish air about him, IMO.

Seven of Eleven said...

@Sherry, ITA. He's in my pretend silver linings playbook. I just pretend he's not a real-life turd, just like I pretend Piven is only as douchey as Ari Gold (who I actually like).

@ Reno I've watched The Sure Thing a zillion times & it will never get old. LOVE it so much.

aliciabutterfly26 said...

Aww Neve. She's so lovely, I like her. It makes me sad that Midnight in the Garden of Good and evil is my fave movie. John C and Kevin S are such pieces of shit.

Grosse Point Blank is one of my favorite movies, 16 Candles too. Joan, is my favorite of that family. She's just cool.

I tried to watch that crappy Poe movie he's in, and it SUCKED. Maybe the new one with him and Crazy Cage won't be so bad. John is a dick though, I tried to follow him on Twitter, hell no, Neve should've just dropped his ass. I did.

omniboo said...

Never understood the big deal about him. Not attractive, not a good actor....pfft. Was interested in that Salinger movie, but he crammed his way into it. Strikes me as self-important douche.

Tina Mallette said...

Jon Cusack been giving me a creepy vibe for the last few years. He was well cast in The Paperboy. I'd rather watch his sister acting anytime.

The moral of the story women is unless you've already walked up the aisle, so you at least can be compensated for putting your career on hold, do not put your career on hold for any man and even after - if he really loves you, you will both find a way to make it work. See Kruger-Jackson and they aren't even married yet.

TalksTooMuch said...

Awww, I loved Lloyd Dobler and that makes me sad if any of this is true. This is why we can't have nice things!

Sandy said...

Yeah. I'd already heard he was a total douche (friends worked with him at his apex). It was greatly disappointing because I used to love him back in the day, especially in one of my favorite all-time Christmas movies, The Sure Thing.

Still, she took his crap, which was the height of stupidity and self-flagellation.

TalksTooMuch said...

Don't forget Better Off Dead! 2 dollars. All for nuthin

Renoblondee said...

@Rangers Me too! It's how I learned to shotgun a beer IRL!

Jolene Jolene said...

What @elise said. This doesn't sound like an abusive relationship situation, so why is Neve portrayed as such a victim? I have no doubt he's a piece of shit and treated her like hell, but no one forced her to take his career advice, and no one is to blame for "trashing her career for him" except herself. Neve Campbell was fairly successful at that time. She didn't need his money, she wasn't going to be left homeless without him, so why stay?

It's like women who start dating womanizers and players and then act all victim when she catches him in be with another woman. Or when he leaves his wife for you, you marry him, and he 5 years later he leaves you for that 22 year old he met at the gym. They always think a leopard can change his spots or you can make a bad person become a good one. Just no. Use your brain, ladies!

Cee Kay said...

Aren't Cusack and Piven best friends? Or they were until Piven finally got a career? So, no real shocker here. But Neve is an idiot and I would sincerely like to know what damaged her so much she thought she needed to put up with that.

"I'd already heard he was a total douche (friends worked with him at his apex)."

Well, my friend, whose word I trust because I've known him forever, worked with John Cusack and said he was a great guy. My buddy has worked in Hollywood forever and would never front for a scumbag.

C'mon, we know that most of the CDAN BI's from the last few years are fabricated, right?

Seven of Eleven said...

@Jenn, I LOVE Grosse Point Blanke, and Joan Cusak, too. What did John say on Twitter? I followed one of my favorite actors, Adam Baldwin, for a while before I had to remove. Awesome actor, bad tweeter (twitterer? whatever it's called).

TalksTooMuch said...

Seven, Adam Baldwin will ALWAYS be DC Cab to me

Tina Mallette said...

Still have no respect for him, even if she was stupid. Many of us made the cardinal mistake of thinking he was the nice nerdy guy he plays in movies, LOL.

Cheating is bad enough but stringing her along on the wedding thing, that's just cruel. I know what the pay off is for him, he wants his cake and eat it too but it still makes him a douche and it would appear a control freak and control freaks sometimes end up being abusive.

I bet if he had been totally honest, she would have still stuck around, love makes people very stupid, men and women, but then I'd have no sympathy for her because he laid all his cards out on the table. Maybe he did and this is just her revenge.

TalksTooMuch said...

AKM, are you Canadianana too?? Absolutely I will send some: regular, mocha or peppermint?

After Scream, she might have been offered other franchises that she turned down at his request. And I'm with the ones who are not buying Neve is the martyr hear. But I can understand the heartbreak if she truly felt he was the one.

redfishbluefish said...

I worked off Michigan Ave when they were dating and used to see them around town too, second what @iknowpeople said. They seemed happy and very unassuming. This was back when I hung out in the Rush St. bars and would see them now and then. Always a thrill to me as I loved him for his roles back then. I heard many rumors about drug problems with him too, not sure about her. Given that he ran with Chris Farley and that crowd, it would not surprise me. Years later I moved further north in town (Ravenswood/Lakeview) and used to run into Joan and her family all the time, to where we'd exchange hellos and one time we sat at their table at a favorite n'hood restaurant we both used to frequent and chatted a bit. I adore her. She isn't famous like a celebrity. She's a cool person who happens to make a living filming movies. Not sure if that distinction makes sense to anyone else, but what i mean is she never acted like she was better than anyone just because she was famous. Just good Midwestern people.

I like John as an actor - I hate most modern rom-coms but I adore Serendipty. I actually paid money to see it in the cinema 3 times!

IF this is true, stringing her along about a wedding is horrible. However, there is such a thing as being a masochist. If someone is pulling away *that* hard and often so you have to be the one always "fighting" for the relationship, then for the love of God let them go!

Oh boo fucking hoo. The world is full of asshole men, but if a woman is that slow to figure it out, I don't have much sympathy.

Joan is not that sweet. Years ago, when she was living in this big corner house in the Lakeview neighborhood, she reused to have anyone shovel the snow. The neighbors were really pissed.
Then, there was the neighborhood garage & yard sales. I went to them & was flat out shocked she was participating. I went into the back yard, but all she had were a bunch of really, really old computer monitors. 14" ones. There were a bunch of music CDs on a stone ledge in the yard. A woman walked up to me & said those weren't for sale. I looked at her & realized it was Joan. Seeing her at 10 AM on a Saturday morning without makeup is a truly terrifying experience!
This is a woman who makeup was invented for!

The timeline matches up with her relationships - divorced in 1998, dated John from 1998-2002, and then married three years after their split. However, the third Scream was made in 2000 while she was with him. I can't speak to her role in the film - whether it's a substantial part or not - but she didn't walk away from it. Perhaps she refused to sign a contract for a fourth/fifth film and only fulfilled a contract for the third.

Derek Harvey said...

haha thanks Brenda--love back. Don't think we would be a great match (I like guys) but I can definitely be your CDAN fiance--it is a jungle here sometimes so it might be good ; )

B. Profane said...

I'm no apologist for John Cusack, but I've never read a douchebag slam on the guy except on CDAN and I do know someone who has worked with him and liked him. Plus he comes from a family with impeccable professional credentials. Do you really think he'd be on good terms with the rest of his kin if he was being a cheating creep?

Besides, what does this BI actually accuse him of doing? Going back and forth on getting married and finally breaking it off? Well, I've done that--for good reason--an my ex-fiancee did her best to make my life hell afterwards. Campbell ain't exactly a rocket scientist when it comes to brains, but Cusack is a legitimately talented actor. I can read this as him getting involved with a pretty but shallow actress, trying to make it work and this is her crybaby aftermath story.

Sherry said...

I understand what you're saying Jolene squared. A backbone and some self respect go a long way regardless if your love is famous or not.

Sherry said...

Redfish, totally understand what you're saying. That may also explain why she works a lot and is universally liked, Joan.

sash said...

Cate Blanchette recently said in an interview that John Cusack offerred her generous and balanced advice about the paps and fame. While shooting Pushing Tin she was worried about Queen Elizabeth which had not been released yet and sought John's advise. Supposedly John told her no matter any reception for a performance she should not become pretentious or self righteous about the press. Just accept the attention with as much grace as possible; the same with bad reviews.

Broken hearts and bad form in sexual relationships are unfortunate but common. He just might be a decent kind of guy overall just not in romantic relationships; she just might be focused and sensible, just not during romance.

It happens.

From what I can find, they dated when she was 24 or 25. She goes out with him, he cheats, she takes him back, he cheats. Hasn't every girl dated a guy like this by the time she was 25? I did- and then I realized I was an idiot for taking him back, then I got smart, and didn't date him any more. Then I dated other idiots until I got really smart and married my non-cheating husband. Why is this such a dramatic blind??
I'd rather hear about Bruce Jenner and his weird pony tail and shaved Adam's apple.

Mango said...

Do you really think he'd be on good terms with the rest of his kin if he was being a cheating creep?

Like Joan or his mother would cut him out of their lives because he was cold and calculating with the females he strings along? Please. He hardly treats his family in the same manner he treats his conquests, so I don't his "kin" acknowledging nor caring about little Johnny's sex life.

"what a scumbag. I first found out what a dirt bag he is with this reveal
http://www.crazydaysandnights.net/2013/07/blind-items-revealed_5296.html"

Exactly my point. The Enty ghosties have a bitch against Cusack for some reason, probably because of his connections to Piven (who is a known scumbag). There isn't even a shred of "gossip truth" to the idea that John Cusack is a sleazeball with women outside of CDAN.

I mean, we know that most of the BI's are fabricated, right? So fine, but one can still play along for fun. But when it's obvious that the hacks ghosting the site now are fabricating a whole series of attacks on someone, you have to call BS on that.

B. Profane said...

"He's infamous for treating women, well, almost as badly as Piven does."

Only on the pages of this blog, which is rather the point.

Chigirlie said...

Years ago I worked in the museum shop at the Art Institute of Chicago. A customer came up to me to make a purchase that looked familiar and making general conversation I told him that I thought I knew him from somewhere. He asked me if a was a friend of his sister Joanie and it took me a while but I finally put two and two together and realized who he was. I must say he was very kind, friendly, and patient with me. He even came back to my counter when I beckoned for him to ask him the name of the baseball movie he was in ( eight men out) and I am a female lol.

Deryn said...

I thought that Cusack and Piven had a falling-out right about the time the stories started coming hard and heavy (no pun intended) about what a deliberately monumental dick Piven was. It did coincide with his Entourage success, but I never put it down to jealousy -- Cusack had been dragging Piven along with him right up until then. ("GIVE ME MY FIREBIRD KEYS!" And he was downright appealing in "Serendipity".) Probably Piven just bloomed into full dickishness *with* his success, and Cusack drew away from him.

As for what happened between him and Neve -- well, I'm with Rhody. It sounds like typical mid-20s relationship crap. That she's hanging onto it into her 40s (to the point she has to hide from him for an hour, or that she still can't speak of it unless she's in the right mood) tells me more about her need for personal drama than it does about how dicky he was.

Deryn said...

Also: "She does enjoy the fact his career has stalled." That's the generous spirit and healthy attitude of someone who is not obsessed with the past, right? Right?

AKM said...

Ha, no, I'm in the States. I'm just a Canadian fan -- is that weird? A neighbor lady who practically helped raise me was a Newfy, so I just grew up thinking that Canadians were the coolest, hee hee. I've never even had Nanaimo bars but they just sound so delicious. I'm going to have to try your recipe.

NYer said...

i think those trying to argue cusack is a nice guy have an uphill battle. (and its kind of weird how vociferous his defenders are.) no relationship at his age raises real questions. sure she may be bitter and trying to get back at him, but with these accusations? there are far more scandalous accusations she could have made if her only goal was to hurt him. but maybe i'm just biased because i like her.

Deryn said...

@NYer -- I think you have a point about his lack of long-term relationships, but I wouldn't call any of the "defenses" of Cusack so far "vociferous". It seems to me that those who are doubtful (including me) are doubting that Neve was the "innocent trampled flower who gave up her bloom for love" she's portrayed to be in this blind. I used to like Neve, too, a lot, but I've heard a couple of not-nice things about her since then, from people I trust, and this blind falls right in line with the high-maintenance/high-dramz things I've heard.

I think there's a case to be made for Cusack's ickiness, too (association with Piven, the aforementioned lack of relationships, rumors about the lengths to which he goes to cling to his "youth appeal", etc.). But there are at least two sides to every story -- and clearly, only one is being told in this blind.

Sophia said...

I also heard from a friend who used to motorcycle ride with him that he was a dick. Made them do EVERYTHING for him.

On a side note, people used to always tell me that I looked like Neve Campbell..I also ended up marrying someone with the last name of Cusack. Just thought that was weird.

NYer said...

ok; i'll swap out "vociferous" for "coordinated." I don't see the "trampled flower" theme in the blind. it only arises in the cusack defense pieces. again, if this was intended to be a hatchet piece, either by neve or enty (or an enty-henchperson), i can't see it being pitched this way. granted i know none of the players so what do i know.

PS said...

I've met Cusack several times (Piven, too, and he is even skeezier in real life; neither are charming in the slightest). Couldn't give a shite about "celebrities," but I had always figured JC might be one as likable off screen. I could not have been more wrong. He is a bitter old curmudgeon, who treats people horribly, because he is a truly miserable person. F*cking with people is his form of entertainment and how he gets the slightest sense of thrill, like a bored rich frat boy with warped sense of entitlement, right and wrong, repercussions, empathy - you name it. I don't know how anyone could stand to be around the guy, except to sponge or sadly thinking they can save him from his aparrent depression. Not possible. He is just a insatiable, unhappy and extremely immature jerk.

NATHANIEL MANELLA said...

This hurts more than I can say, since he always seemed like/played the regular guy. Better Off Dead will still always be one of my faves though.

Not surprised. I've had a few Cusack sitings one of which a few months ago. He rolled up on a Vespa with another guy, went into the establishment where I was sitting outside and split a pelligrino with his friend.

He definitely doesn't look so good these days--he looks like his creepy character in The Paperboy. Then, some early twenty something random sat down at his table. Soon thereafter, she was on the back of his Vespa and they rode off into the night.

Oh, and someone I know had an ongoing affair with him for years. She finally ended things when she got engaged. That was a few years ago. She is 32 now.

He's kind of gross.

Northern_Gal said...

Couldn't have said that better myself.
My mother always taught me that it's bad form to air your relationship grievances. It only serves to make YOU look bad. This article reads like a jealous psycho-bitch "if I can't have him, I'll see to it no one else wants him" tirade.
I've been screwed over in more relationships than should be possible. And the only person I blame is myself for putting up with it again and again. I'd be pissed if I were Neve, and saw that my "friend" and confidant aired my dirty laundry...that is, if it's even true.

Northern_Gal said...

Also, he's been quoted several times since their split saying he now has trust issues. And he hasn't had a long term relationship since, while she has married...how many times? Looks to me like she wasn't the only one who got seriously hurt there.
Bottom line is that there are only two people who REALLY know what happened in their relationship, and only one person who knows what happened with her career. Guess who?

What the Hell Happened to Neve Campbell?

http://lebeauleblog.com/2013/10/20/what-the-hell-happened-to-neve-campbell/

Neve Campbell had the lead role on a hit TV show which lead to a leading role in a hit movie franchise. Scream revitalized the horror genre in 1996. Campbell continued to star on Party of Five while making Scream sequels. In between, she tried to make something happen outside of teen soaps and horror movies. While Campbell continued working, she fell off the public’s radar.

What the hell happened?
