Blind Item #7

This up and coming foreign born singer was all set to appear on a popular British television show to promote her recent record which is really good. He called it off though when he saw her in rehearsals because he said she was too fat and that people would never buy her record if they saw her looking like that.

Lorde?

Who is he? I'm stuck in pronoun hell

Lourdes. She is a wild card that one, looks hot in some pics then not so much in a different light. Like the Seinfeld episode.

It can't be Lorde, she's all over the place. Adele isn't up and coming, she established.

Whoever this is, the host isn't concerned about her record sales. He's a douche concerned about having a "fat girl" on his show.

Lorde, but not sure who's show that would be. Graham Norton wouldn't do something like that.

@plozky
I think it's that hideous dark lipstick that makes her look harsh (and ha ha on that Seinfeld episode). She posted a pic of herself with no makeup and spot cream on her face, and I thought she still looked cute. Ditch the lippy, girl! (When I was her age, I thought I was stunning in my frosty Shimmering Shell lipstick. Big mistake)

Lorde is not attractive at all. But who cares, she has a good voice. I am not a fan of that "Royals" song, but I can respect the fact that she has talent.

I miss the days of radio and payola...when the music played was made by the people who created it, you know, like people who plied their craft in the scene. Now so much is written and produced by artists and handed off to neophytes who fit our visual image of pop stars and recording artists. At least there is Adele. It really is a shame. Would any of these young people really embrace Daft Punk without their robot suits? It is so much cooler to imagine your edm DJ as a cyborg, than 2 really talented middle aged European dudes who have created music here and abroad for decades. Our obsession with youth in America is a little disturbing.

No not Lorde she is very pop now due to the grammy awards...every show wants her...there's gotta be someone else who's chubby or maybe baby faced...some tweener

The Dude said...

That's right people don't buy music made by fat people...Mama Cass, Martha Wash, Ella Fitzgerald, Aretha Franklin, Kate Smith, Adele...

Oh please - kid is only 17 and is hardly fat - give her a break!

I'm going to go with ...

Trying to think - who is someone like Helen Flanagan, trying to launch a singing career ... Brits, help me out here! Someone who people expect to be perfect ... maybe one of the TOWIE girls?

I think it's meant to be 'his' show ...

Does Nick Grimshaw have a TV show (as well as a radio one)? Could be him if so ...

Violet said...

No idea who the 'he' is. Neither my beloved Graham Norton nor my lot less beloved Jonathan Ross would not allow someone on their show because they were overweight. ( disclaimer I do not know that for sure it is an assumption).

The girl from the Macklemore song "same love"? Don't know her name but have heard a lot about her album coming out and she's what most consider a heavier girl.

Boishglamorpuss said...

Mary Lambert! Thank google...

Lorde came to mind. I could actually see Norton saying that, he's supposed to be a bit of a bitch IIRC. If not him then Jonathon Ross maybe?

@ the dude. Right some of the greatest music of the 60s 70s and 80s would never be released today by the artists that wrote and recorded it, so many were late 20s +, or early 30s when they broke through. Video killed the radio star...and yes the revolution WAS televised. I watched it go down on the original MTV.

Shit You Can't Buy said...

@Sunny; hahahaha same here! I looked like I had kissed a glittery unicorn :,,,)

trainrides said...

@Boishglamorpuss Mary Lambert's a good singer but she isn't foreign born

crila16 said...

Tell that to Adelle. She's a super star with a phenominal voice. Who cares how fat someone is, I'm listening to them, not looking at them. Who says talent has to always come in a perfect little package. I hate Hollywood.

Rosie riveter said...

Uh Oh. Careful with this one Enty...your followers DO NOT love fatty posts. Eek.
Run for cover!!!

Howard Schultz-Shameless Profiteer (S.S.!) said...

@crila

Adele was SPECIFICALLY referenced. She is outstanding! Its like if you are not size 0-3, or highly enhanced (booty shots-breast aug-etc) you have no chance. Its an American thing. All people with vocal/writing talent are insanely beautiful didnt you know.

Sunny said...

@shit you can't buy
You nailed it! I couldn't think of a clever comparison

Howard Schultz-Shameless Profiteer (S.S.!) said...

@ Rosie...its not specifically weight, it is the media biased cookie cutter molds that bug me. If you are fit and talented, great. If not you should still have a chance at succes as you are. But to be pushed by the media, you must conform. Ex: J Hud, K Clarkson, J Sparks, C Underwood, all good/great vocalists, all pushed to lose weight after winning or placing in Idol. I happen to personally embrace fitness as a former athlete, but I dont expect everyone to follow suit. My issue is FORCED conformity.

Boishglamorpuss said...

@trainrides - whomp whomp. I tried :)

sifichick said...

What about Sam Bailey? She's the one who won last year's UK X Factor. Her voice is amazing but she's not exactly skinny.

Celeb Friend said...

I say Lorde,although she is far from fat.

I think she is talented and gorgeous.

Sarah Brightman is curvy,look at all her fans,Adele is another one.

Looks help,but talent always prevails.

The 'he' has to be either Ant or Dec - weird looking guys who come across as real bitches and host a weekend show.

Howard Schultz-Shameless Profiteer (S.S.!) said...

@sifi

Europe is far more open with regard to differences in visual appeal and musical talent. That is why Terrence Trent Darby never returned to American popular music after the Hardline album

I'm thinking it's one of those pop stars who has to perform in her underwear like all the rest, not Lorde.

But as far as she goes, my wife and I watched that Grammy performance and got real creeped out by that claw thing she does, definitely don't need to see her do that again anytime soon.

Sherry said...

@Howard Schultz-Shameless Profiteer (S.S.!) I think I love you..Agreed on all points. What's your take on auto tune?

Dang I thought Glamourpuss got it..

Ramone Love said...

Graham Norton?

audrey said...

Auto tune should be banned from the music industry.

Alita said...

I don't think auto tune should be banned - if we can collectively step away from this requirement that all 'artists' must write, produce, and deliver an amazing performance with dance and extravagansa, and so on, to appreciate the pure musician, then we should also be able to appreciate the performer that acts someone else's music with energetic flare and beauty.

That are often distinct competences, but they are both good and worthy of attention. It is only our shared bias - no doubt forwarded by the following yet powerful labels - that forms the current paradigm.

Alita said...

Heh - 'z' bigotry. Sorry for all those that check 'US English.'

Extravaganza doesn't want an 's.'

I can see Norton saying this to Sam Bailey
