Justin Bieber Apologizes For Racist Joke

When Justin Bieber was 15 years old he was recorded telling a racist joke that also involved him using the N word. The recording had been suppressed since then, but over the weekend was finally released. Yesterday Bieber released a statement that said, "As a young man, I didn't understand the power of certain words and how they can hurt. I thought it was OK to repeat hurtful words and jokes, but didn't realize at the time that it wasn't funny and that in fact my actions were continuing the ignorance. I take my friendships with people of all cultures very seriously and I apologize for offending or hurting anyone with my childish and inexcusable mistake. I was a kid then and I am a man now who knows my responsibility to the world and to not make that mistake again."

Setting aside the question of whether he acts like a man now or not, he was 15 years old and yes, he should have known better, but I have never met anyone who thinks he is racist and I also believe him that he does not use the N word any longer. He had lots of people rush to his defense yesterday and lots of people knew the recording existed, but it didn't stop them from associating with him and I don't think its release will probably change any of that.

enough with this twerp. Next time he gets in a jam his bodyguards should take a seat.

So, it's a non-story then and just an opportunity to peeps to talk about how much they hate him then? Carry on!

Once a dumbass, always a dumbass.

Very perceptive, TTM. You Canadians are right on the ball in the mornings.

I recently had to end a friendship with a white chick who thought it was funny to say the N word liberally around me. I gave her a couple of warnings than just told her straight-up she was a moron that made me feel very uncomfortable.

In other news all these teenagers are camping outside Much Music (Canadas MTV) and yes skipping school and at night etc. to see an awards show hosted by the youngest Jenner sisters. I hope they read good that night....

Everyone keeps saying he was 15 but that the video was shot in 2011 which if my math skills are correct would actually make him 17 in the video. He we as old enough to know that was an inappropriate joke. Hell even if he was 15 that's still old enough to know better.

But little white boys like Beiber love to throw around the n word and non of his "friends" will say shit about it because he pays all their bills. This is just another thing to add to the list of things that make him a shitty person.

15?

My kids are 13 and 11 and they know that word isn't acceptable.

Fuck Bieber and fuck the music producers who made him famous.

Jacq said...

It's be one thing if he was actually 15, but I've also read that he was 17. It'd also be one thing for me to brush off anything I said at 15, because I'm in my late 30's. He isn't far removed from either (teen) age. But it blows my mind what happened to Donald Sterling, versus the non-effect this will have on Beiber. It's bullshit.

Justin Bieber apologies are all about sincerity and honesty.

I agree that he was a kid, and a childish mistake. My two little "Island Girls" know not to ever say that word, even kidding around..because Mr. island & I don't say those words. So...where did he learn it from? Who taught him that was okay to say..JMHO

Enabler Enty is on the loose!

Even if he was 15 he should have known better. There was even somebody in the video telling him not to say it. This just further proves that he's been a dick since the beginning of his career and it's only gotten worse.

I'm so glad the interwebs weren't around when I was 15.

MISCH said...

Geez he's a moron, why is anyone surprised by anything the idiot does or says

rajahcat said...

he needs to shut up and go away for a few years to mature.......

would be best case scenario for everyone

Kudos to the team of lawyers that wrote that for him.

Does anyone here think he has stopped?

How does it happen that people forget what a camera does! Clearly this little douche has jumped the shark and is heading for a major Britney!

I don't like Justin, but I genuinely don't think he is racist; he loves black people & black culture too much for that. At least an apology was issued. So far, Louis from One Direction has not apologized for his racial slur which leads me to believe he is not sorry nor does he care.

Kelly said...

When will twerps lose interest in this clown? Ugh.

JB is many things, but obviously not a racist. C'mon. I know that "having black friends" isn't a defense... but lets look at who JB hangs out with *all the time*, the established musicians who's approval he seeks and who's culture he emulates...

That word is never OK and repeating racist jokes is a terrible idea... but someone who uses that word only in the context of repeating a racist joke is more likely to be ignorant/clueless than an actual racist.

I can't believe you defending him enty or fake enty. When is it cool to say n word jokes. I didn't get that memo. The origin of the chainsaw joke is when the kkk use to chase blacks before lynching them. I have never laughed at a joke using a derogatory term neither have I made one or called any group an derogatory term and I'm the same age as Beiber. Trust me if Bieber made a f word joke or a k joke his head would be on a platter but it's okay to make n word jokes.

I have no love (or even like) or respect for Biebs who has shown himself to be a buffoon on multiple occasions. But are we really going to get on his case - or anyone else's - for something he did at age 15? Let all who have not acted like a jerk when they were that age raise their hands. I don't see any hands.

I have an honest question. I know a lot of us readers enjoy rap music … when you sing along to these songs, do you sing all the words? Even the N word?

JSierra said...

What I thought was interesting was the older sounding woman, probably his mother, repeating a different variation of the joke in the background. Difference is, he is a clueless idiot who thinks he is being funny and she is a grown woman who is trying to impress a bunch of 17 year olds with racists jokes.

Unknown said...

Me too! I was an idiot. Harmless but an idiot.

mw843 said...

When's he going to apologize for being Justin Bieber?

Unknown said...

He has black ppl around him that doesn't mean he isn't racist. See Donald sterling. Black ppl make JB look edgy and cool and he pays them. That's it.

skippy said...

Yep asswipe status confirmed.

Sprink said...

@chopchop, that's an interesting question.

I wrote a very long explanation, but deleted. My short answer is no, I don't sing along with the word nigger, or nigga, or nig, or whatever variation is used.

I'm curious as to what others might say.

sifichick said...

I knew by the time I was in school that using ANY racial slur was a huge no no. I don't give Justin a pass just because he hangs out with multiple POC. He knew it was wrong. He was clearly warned not to finish the joke. Yet he did it anyway.

So Canadians you can now stop saying "The US broke him. So the US has to keep him."? That excuse doesn't work anymore after seeing that video.

I must be getting old because I have no idea what a k joke is.

Unknown said...

I'm biracial (black/white) so it's "socially acceptable" for me to use the n word but I still don't. I don't see the point even during rap songs.

Sherry said...

I think he thought he was one of the brothers and that it was okay to use the word. Which is isn't.

And I learned it was a bad word at the age of 5 when parroting my cousins my mama came all the way from the front of a station wagon to the seat at the back and slapped my head. How do moms do that? It was like her arm grew to be 6 feet long!

bellaluna said...

Those must be some seriously well - paid body guards considering what a little asshole he is.

Dexamyl said...

I watched the video and it's not at all clear what Louis said, especially as they were using odd slang (e.g. "chicken").

Steampunk Jazz said...

I can't even sing the words to Drunk Love :-)
That classy number just sells love, to me...
As for rap, when I read poetry, I read. When I say it aloud, I sound like an idiot. For me, rap is poetry, therefore No, I don't say it.
It's not my voice, it's theirs.

Hold on there, Steamy! I mean:

Steampunk Jazz said...

No offense, everyone but K for kike?

TalksTooMuch said...

Um, can we still blame it on the US media, scifichick? Help a country oot!

Steampunk Jazz said...

@ttm, that was the Best part of "I married an Axe murderer"! I wore that part off the VCR rewinding. :-D. It was the first time Meyers matched what I thought he was/is, an angry, energy burning misogynist who is talented.
I never bought his schtick.

TalksTooMuch said...

I know, I loved that movie!

Zeeky_Boogy_Doog said...

LOL, I was thinking the offensive K-word was "Kardashian!"

NaughtyNurse said...

I am sure he regrets it. However, his apology would have been more sincere had HE actually drafted it and not left it to a much more articulate public relations professional. That apology was bought and paid for.

Kelly said...

Head. Move. Now.

poppyfresh said...

@Dexamyl I watched the One Direction video too and it was clear as day that Louis said a shortened version of the n word.

SugarTitz said...

Lainey has an interesting take pointing out his mom's racism and that you can maybe hear her in the background telling him how to re tell the joke better. Hmmm.
