Hanson 2

Today on one of the many shows Oprah hosts, she has the Hanson brothers on her show. Yes, the Hanson brothers who sang Mmmbop and not the Hanson brothers from Slap Shot. Anyway, although the Hanson brothers have a combined 452 children between the three of them, they have three children between them that are in the 4 1/2 to 5 1/2 year age range and those three now have the pressure of starting their own band. Not today, but I bet within a few years those three will be out there trying to extend the Hanson legacy until the other 452 children can fill the breach. It is amazing to me just how popular Hanson still is. Just the fact they are on Oprah today should tell you how big their fan base still is.

Pssst - CB, glad you are ok. Did the rivers flood?

Not yet but its supposed to rain another 2 inches today so I'm sure it'll happen soon. Its mostly the small creeks that have been flooding plus lots of mud slides.

Hanson was big when I was like 6 years old. I have like 1 song on my iPhone but I wouldn't have expected them to still have a fan base... Are they making new music?

cinephreak said...

Oh but when I was 6 I was a huggeee fan.

@rejectedcarebear I hope we know the same person. Otherwise there's more than one... Haha

I loooooved Hanson for years. I even "saved" K-Ci and Jojo "All My Life" so it could be my song with Taylor. Then one dance I accidentally started slow dancing to it with Joseph Quinones and realized about halfway through that I tainted "our song". This was a very big deal to 7th grade me. Haha

I was never a fan when Mmmmbop was out but I saw them play NYC last year (a friend had an extra ticket, I swear!) and it was one of the best shows I've been to. Great energy, lots of crowd interaction. I downloaded their most recent album after and I have to confess that it's catchy as all hell.

Lol it's funny how when I was 11 everyone went on about how Isaac was the ugly one. Now he's the hot one.

I still have several friends who are absolutely nuts about Hanson - when we were in middle school, it made a lot of sense, but now I just don't understand it. They still act like the same crazed dingbats they did back in the day whenever Hanson is in town, they all have pictures taken with the guys on their Facebooks (one even uses it as her profile image and has for a couple of years), and they're constantly quoting their songs. One of them posted just the other day, while tagging the other two crazed fans we know, "Can't believe it was 15 years ago today that we first saw the guys in concert. I will never forget it! #bestdayofmylife" (I just popped over to facebook to make sure I got this exactly right, it's so delightfully gut-busting.

I mean, for HANSON, of all bands. I mean, I get it. They could actually play their own instruments, and their voices weren't awful. And for their age, they sure as hell were hard workers. But c'mon. It's fucking Hanson.

I dunno, Mmmmbop was pretty damn catchy.

I've heard great things about their live show and based on interviews I've seen, they are really knowledgeable about music. The middle one (Taylor?) was briefly in a band called Tinted Windows with Bun E. Carlos from Cheap Trick. The songs weren't very good but he impressed me as a front man.

I think they are really likeable guys. They didn't seem to let fame corrupt or change them.

They're not my type, but I have respect for any band that writes their own music and plays their own instruments.

The boys over at datalounge have a whole thread dedicated to the discussion of Taylor being a power bottom. Note: the linked DL photos are pretty gross and NSFLife so I don't recommend searching them out unless you really like to see the insides of someones backside.

if it is indeed Taylor in the photos, that boy is going to need serious anal rejuvenation.

My friend loves them. I get it, I'm NKOTB until the end!

The one on keyboards was seriously beautiful.

If people are willing to pay to see them perform who am I to judge? As long as they're not hurting anyone or being overtly offensive I have no issue.

I recently saw a show of theirs and I was absolutely blown away. Their music is much more mature, but still super catchy. And they can sure play! I definitely did not expect it (I was just going for some Mmmmbop nostalgia), but they were incredible. I would definitely see them again!

LOL at Frufra! They are in the Tulsa newspaper often, supposedly they are very nice guys to fans and charities. They've donated extensively to fight AIDS in Africa.

My ex-wife's sister is a HUGE Hanson fan. They came out when she was in middle school and she just ate it up. I know she has met them several times and they have always been super nice (and attentive enough to recognize and remember her). And outside of their first album or two they have gotten really good. They clearly know their rock history and incorporate a lot of old-school Motown vibe. I wanted badly to hate them but I just can't.

I was in love with Taylor Hanson when I was like 13. True story.

Okay I admittedly might still have a soft spot for him...

And James Iha from Smashing Pumpkins. I saw them play. You're right about the songs - but they could've been a cool thing...the show I went to seemed full of cliques of stalwart Hanson fans, actively shunning the side project (talking, ignoring the music). Having never experienced them before, I found them really creepy and it was hands down the weirdest show I've ever been to, vibe-wise! Taylor seemed pretty pissed off by it, lol.
