Wasn't he just given an honorary Oscar? If so I am glad he got to live to see that.
Such a brilliant actor. RIP
@MontanaMarriott - Yep.
Dang. Feel like watching Lawrence of Arabia now.
Or according to Samantha Jones, Lawrence of My Labia.
Ahh, man. Lawrence is one of my favorite films. Back in the day, the dude did some serious vying with Richard Burton for chief hellraiser.
Crap.
RIP Peter.
Knock back one for us.
Damn he sure lived hard RIP Peter you were brilliant.
I believe he was a bit of a wild man back in the day, but what a beautiful actor he was.
Godspeed, Peter.
And probably one of the best looking men I've ever seen….for fun watch the comedy he did with Audrey Hepburn…Paris, beautiful cloths and a drop dead gorgeous man…
RIP you've earned it…
He lived some life, rip.
Pretty bummed by this. A Lion in Winter, Becket, and Creator were my favorites. He was damn fine back in the day.
RIP he was awesome.
Go Seahawks!!! Best city ever!
he was beautiful. everyone should see 'lawrence of arabia.' it's just a great story but HE is phenomenal.
After all the booze and drugs he and his fellows Burton, Sellers and others did, he is lucky to have lived that long, and we to have seen him all this time.
RIP.
Damn. Now I will have to go back and watch "What's New, Pussycat?" if I can find it, along with the original "Casino Royale", not to mention "Goodness, Mr. Chips". So many actors always seem in control of their emotions and Dole them out like candy. O'Toole had these powerful reactions on screen and was most charming when he looked completely befuddled by women. Sigh. Any good biographies out there? I will miss him. Oh, he was really fun in "The Stuntman" which is lesser known but great. Not suitable for children, though.
Oops. "Goodbye, Mr. Chips".
In Lawrence, I remember him as being so gorgeous. It was only in later years that I realize that eye makeup must've played a part in that beauty.
Also remember him and Richard Harris spinning stories on some talk show - don't remember if it was Carson or Letterman.
He was a great actor continually snubbed at Oscar time... Allegedly, he kept turning down the honorary one because he wanted to win one. Along with Stanwyck, one of the greatest slights in Oscar history.
Truly great actor.
Goooooooo SEAHAWKS. +1 RosieR
RIP Mr. O'Toole, I loved you in King Ralph
IN addition to all the other great movies mentioned here there's also "My Favorite Year," a terrific comedy directed by Richard Benjamin, with Mark Linn Baker, Jessica Harper, Joseph Bologna, and Lainie Kazan. Well worth watching. RIP.
Man, he was something!!!! What life!!! Rest in peace my friend. And andrew is right; my fav year is hilarious!!!!
RIP, you beautiful, talented man.
Marvelous actor.
RIP Mr O'Toole, you were magical.
RIP, Peter O'Toole.
He was so gorgeous in his youth! A hell raiser, but so talented and amazing. He will be greatly missed. RIP.
Ah sad news. Last of the great bon vivants and raconteurs. When the subject of fantast dinner guests came up, as it often does at dinner parties, Peter O'Toole was usually first on my list.
Sadly that never came to pass but I did get to share drinking space with him on a couple of occasions at the French House in Soho.
Loved him! In a Lion in Winter he was so deserving of an Oscar. He and Hepburn were unparalleled to this day in their acting and chemistry.
When I think of some of the people who have Oscars and compare them to the legends that don't, it makes the Oscar seem pretty meaningless.
Hope he, Burton, Harris and Oliver Reed are throwing them back at the great big open bar in the sky. What a group they were, talent-wise and in ability to party for days on end.
Related: 96 year old legend Joan Fontaine passed as well today.
"Lord Jim" is one of his best movies.
He made everything he was in better. I wish he'd made more movies in his later years. Godspeed Mr. O'Toole!
I have never see a Peter O'Toole movie. There! I admit it. But NOW thanks to you all I know what to choose first. Always sad when a bright light in that marquee dies. Same for Joan Fontaine. Her I have seen. RIP to them both.
God I could watch him for hours in even the worst drudgery. You can watch him on stage on YouTube which is a fave thing of mine to do when I want to be dazzled...Even his interviews amaze. So well read and intelligent. I adore him.
Fare the well, faithful soldier of art. Thank you, thank you. A Legend has passed.
RIP
One of the best. Loved him in "Lion In Winter". May he RIP.
How to Steal a Million! One of my fav movies. Audrey and Peter are both really cute and fun in that movie

Sweet Dreams. He was the role he played. I have seen some terrible movies because of it and some of the best. The Lion in Winter is in my top three. I base many a BS argument on British succession based on that flick. The chemistry between him and Hepburn is....soul shattering. Lust, hatred, longing, love, bitterness, exasperation, its all there.
Favorite line? Hepburn's Eleanor of Aquitaine in the face of Otoole's Henry and his plan to disinherit their children for his mistress's unborn child.
O'Toole: "Pigs will fly before I see...."
Hepburn: "Well there will be pork in the trees by Christmas....!"
That Goodbye scene? Peter at his best. He perfectly captures an aging King secure and happy. Confident 9f his ability to face the coming succession storm...and win!
Thank you Peter. I'll love you forever.
Brilliant in every way. I bought his memoir "Loitering With Intent vol 1" a while ago, but haven't read it yet. They say his writing is so good he could have been just as famous as an author.
Wow, his eyes are so beautifully scary. RIP.
