Okay everyone is entitled to their opinion, but some of the singers being mentioned here are by no means GREAT singers....mediocre at best!
So to me the JLo's, Britney's, Jessica's and Avril's of the world do not apply here. I mean Ashlee Simpson shouldn't even be credited as a singer.
I think we need to think BIGGER like the Whitney's and Celine's of the world. Maybe even Shania and Mariah. Now maybe I am thinking outside the box here, but anyone that can be found on you tube singing long before their music career started doesn't really apply here either.
I take this to be someone who has ABSOLUTELY NO TALENT WHAT SO EVER. So you wouldn't find any information on them from the past.

I still say Janet Jackson. I can totally picture this rockin the music industry if a Jackson came out and said they were faking it. She was also everywhere because of that superbowl incident. Also Michael trail was going on at the time and she was there almost everyday. So everywhere.
I think we've pretty much narrowed it down to:

Icecat, I was heavily pushing JLo but there's no way she's done hundreds of concerts. Sadly, I was wrong.
I don't take the blind to read that MV had absolutely no talent, just that S was far better.
Ok, So here are the clues:
1.S is a sessions/studio/backup singer and is very good
2.she made a very good living singing on commercials and being a backup singer for groups and other acts. ect.
3.but she does not really have that "look"
4.In late 2000, she met a man and he asked her to record some demos, because he had written a lot of songs.(so he's a songwriter)
5.UNTIL several months later she was in her car and heard her voice coming from the radio.
6.MV was taking off..(MV has/had several Top 40 songs and CD's.
7.She could have gone to #1 or go off the radar in her 30's (age, not billboard charting).
8.MV was everywhere..on television, radio, awards shows, commercials..EVERYWHERE.
10.About 9 months go by and S is called by the guy because MV is going on tour and they want S to record some extra mixes and such for the tour.
11.Fast forward another year or so and S stops receiving money.
12.after a few months of missed payments, calls the guy who explains that they need S to do another CD and then the payments can continue.
13.S agrees and records another CD worth of songs which is released several months later.
14.does even better than the first CD. (not an mp3)
15.the process repeated itself several times.
16.all these years and then no more payments.
17.S has not received a payment in six months.
18.She did not even know the guy's name, but when she described him, I knew who he was .
19.MV was not sure she wanted to continue on with what had been happening.
20.Guy was very good at what he does/did.
21.He stayed under budget, toured, made MV available, and made the record company money.
22.So a meeting was arranged in my office and S and MV finally met.
23.MV was rude to say the least when she saw what S looked like.
24.S being her normal classy self could have cared less.
25.MV was on her own for future recordings and tours.
26.literally millions of CD's and hundreds of concerts all over the world.
27.MV has been or is currently married.
*girl - Dammit I keep forgetting that little tid-bit...Grrr.

I think it's jessica simpson for all the reasons already posted. If you go back 3 letters in the alphabet from "MV" so will have "JS". Also, I can't get out of my head her dumb commercials for pizza hut back in her heyday where she makes fun of herself for thinking buffalo wings from buffalo (not the city). Just a thought...

There was a rumor that Janet Jackson had a secret child that someone else is raising.
I'm on the Shania train too. I don't think she's talentless but rather Mutt wanted a more emotional, multi-dimensional voice.
Plus MV:

- has at least one child
Plus he admits the fudging the timeline a bit which would also fit.
FWIW - I had a cousin who spent years living in Nashville trying to break into the business and she rubbed shoulders with alot of people in the biz. Its very well known that Shania is a real bitch in person and very much despised in those country music circles. It could be resentment at being canadian and mutt not being an established country producer but I don't think that its just those reasons.

You guys are really great detectives! I totally agree that "S" is most likely Screechy Peach, That would make complete sense as to why "MV" sounds so differently now. She had no choice after "S" died.
I looked high and low and couldn't find anything about S doing commercial jingles either but perhaps that's just an oversight...
EL says that MV was all over doing commercials so I think that Jessica Simpson and Britney are top contenders, with Brit doing Pepsi and ProActiv adds and Jess appearing in ProActiv, Pizza Hut and Tic Tac commercials. Janet Jackson or Whitney would really rock the music world if they were MV, but the timeline is wayyyy off!

It's not Janet Jackson. SHe's been singing since she was a kid. She sang on her show "Good Times" when she played Penny. She's also been around since the 80's. Celine has been singing since she was 12yrs old and I saw the video of her singing acapella (or however it's spelled) her voice was amazing at that young of an age.
VD...I watched the video on You Tube...but I have no clue who is singing in the commercial. You can tell everyone who you think the MV is.

Anyone who doesn't have a child is out...so forget it being Jessica Simpson. It's also not Christina A, because she's never been married and separated. She's still married to her first and only husband.
OK....it's not Whitney and it's not Madonna. The person in question is someone who came onto the scenes in the late 90's, NOT the mid-80's. Whitney has been around since the early 80's and is putting out a new album this year. Her voice has been ruined by all the drugs...but her singing is 100% her. She's also related to the famous singer Dion Warwick. Madonna is a horrible singer and great performer. For her role in Avita, she had to take major voice lessons. She's also from the early-mid 80's.
Shania...I really don't think it's her either. This is a you tube of her singing live even before she made it big. Look at the 80's hair.

Treat this as the hearsay it is, but I used to date someone whose brother's band won a contest and opened for Shania. This was when she was up-and-coming but not Garth Brooks-huge yet. She does in fact sing. But she was also an enormous, Marie Antoinette-style diva bitch, pulling that Prince-style "don't look me in the eye or talk to me" shit even before she was really big. I think she also refused to touch the food on the craft table because the lowly opening band had touched it. Shit like that.
I am so very upset that this is Shania Twain. Not because I like her but because I live in New Zealand and Shania Twain practically bought and owns third of our South Island. You've seen Lord of the Rings? She practically owns the lot (I'm exaggerating of course). Man, she doesn't deserve such wealth!
