1) Whitney is the relative of multiple prominent soul singers (according to Wikipedia)… therefore, the possibility of her running into a record producer was very high, even if she didn’t have talent.
2) She made the jump into movies… how many true singers (especially a person with unbelievable singing talent) really make the switch? The record producer got greedy and promised her the world!

I also think it is Whitney because it has been said that MV had not appeared on CDAN prior to the blind being posted, and the first Whitney tag appears a month after the blind was posted.
I like Icecat's suggestion of Whitney Houston. She is known to be a diva at times and people have commented and how her singing voice is not that strong on her latest album. That would be a shock to the music world and she is also connected with Clive Davis who is pretty big in music. He would also be in the position to pay off people and keep such a scandel from getting out to the media.

Count me as another who's jumped off the Shania train. I was reading all the for and against comments today, and then 'That Don't Impress Me Much' came on the TV. It struck me that when she goes from speaking to singing, it's the same voice - and the same as her speaking voice outside of her songs. I hadn't heard her music for ages so had forgotten what she sounds like, and couldn't help noticing her voice is not that spectacular and has quite a bit of studio processing applied. It seems she was sold more on personality, a decent enough voice (with some studio help) and looks than as a phenomenal singer.
I do agree Whitney seems the best guess right now. I had thought fudging the date meant just fudging it a little, i.e. still somewhere around 2000-ish, not way before. But no one around then seems to fit. Whitney really would be a shock and yet it would somehow make sense of the bizarre later Whitney that is so hard to reconcile with the image of young Whitney. Anyway, I'll await the next clue...

So the Whitney guess is getting me riled...LOL. I think this one comment supports someone like Whitney as well...."S agrees and records another CD worth of songs which is released several months later and does even better than the first CD. This same process is repeated (I am not going to tell you the number of CD's because again you may be able to deduce and so I will just say the process repeated itself several times)". This is an artist with a decent catalog of music attributed to their name.
I wish I had time to check out a few things:

- Who would "Guy" have been?

WH, with her aging producer. early songs were dancey and did not require the vocals of the soundtrack songs. Had to be able to perform on the soundtrack songs. She was a back up singer like her relatives, but she had the right look. They can sing, but arent huge stars. Maybe that was the extent of her actual ability to sing.
Any doubt she would be unpleasant to meet under those circumstances? No way would anyone sneak this past Madonna, but her?
His background shows all kinds of interesting activity. Fired alot for cause including financial misdeeds. Old school background, put in a pretty face with someone else singing. Most of his most profitable artists are bad singers.
One of the tours included world tour in the name. Is "hundreds of shows" really all that many in the scheme of things? The imptetus to come back after the break would be the acting, but had to be able to sing on the album.
Nothing here says she could not sing, but maybe she just could not sing certain things. It certainly seems like now, however, she cant sing and they have a perfect excuse.

I think people are forgetting WH sang the national anthem LIVE at the Super Bowl. She can sing. Not great today. But back then the lady could sing.

Sade is an interesting guest, but I don't know who the producer might be, and as she's done a lot of living and recording the UK (including Jamaica), this doesn't feel right.
I'm still not convinced this isn't Shania. Shania did an NHL commercial in 2003, prior to Enty's post, and he said "MV was everywhere..on television, radio, awards shows, commercials..EVERYWHERE". Enty never said she couldn't sing. But her self-titled debut album was a dud. Along comes Mutt and everything changes. Tea Lady - I agree completely. I do find it interesting that he doesn't elaborate too much on the relationship between Guy and MV. Maybe its inconsequential but it did seem funny to me. So I know this is pure speculation but imagine this.
MV is a talented singer trying to break into the industry. She's known in Canada but not Nashville yet. She releases an album in the late 90s that doesn't do all that well at a time when Country music is big and gaining ground with some breakthrough artists. Its really competitive.
Along comes Guy who has no credibility in country music circles but he is BIG in mainstream rock and they have alot in common, talent but no respect or inside ties in the industry. Guy/MV hookup and its more than just business (or is it? maybe "arranged" marriages aren't just for actors/actresses).
He knows MV's got the potential but she's missing that something special. He's heard S sing before and knows she has a VERY similar voice to MV but its even better. Remember - Guy approached S out of the blue with his material. He takes the tracks from S, overlays the voice of MV on a few of them...its a perfect fit.
Very soon after MV explodes and is everywhere. The problem now is this gamble is actually paying off tremendously and live performances, endorsement deals, etc are going to be tricky to pull off correctly. Guy decides to keep S on the payroll.
It fits Shania very well. And it explains so many things about their relationship and how things have played out since. Plus, they were industry outsiders so Mutt could have kept this on the downlow very easily and he had the money and means to make it happen. Just sayin.

Hoping Enty gives us a clue today that excludes one of them for sure.
I'm still leaning toward Shania, especially considering Enty's entries about her and that weird comment about blind items thrown in.
Okay, this is my last ditch reasoning for it NOT being Shania. She's a country artist and they have to pay their dues playing fan fairs and there is no way she could get away with lip synching. She would be called out. They are pretty vocal. I think her voice (like most singers) is improved in the studio but it's still her voice. You can hear her speaking voice in her singing. I really don't think it's her.
I don't think Shania CAN'T sing, I was just speculating that S sings alot like her only better. We've all gone to YouTube and heard her earlier performances and agree she can sing. But its not the kind of voice that could pull off her chart topping songs. Plus, ENT is giving alot of attention to the CMA's today on his blog but that might be coincidence.
What intrigues even more is he just dissed Britney in a post dedicated to her Twitter account. This contradicts his earlier statements.

There's just something weird about that, MAC -- on the earlier entries, Enty mentions people he likes, and years later, it sounds totally different. Almost as if someone different is writing the blog (but I really hope that's not true).
Example: early on, he had an entry about Tori Spelling saying that he liked her a lot.
Now, the posts about her are anything but complimentary. One of them even said "Can't stand her," at the end of it.
That being said, this blind was written three years ago. It's not like it could suddenly change.
The more I think about this BI, the more I think it is Janet Jackson. If you listen to her songs, the voice doesn't always sound the same each time. Not sure about the having a child thing, but the kicker for me was when she refused to do a song for the soundtrack of a movie she was in. The Nutty Professor?? Who turns down the chance to get an easy Oscar if the song is any good? Someone who might get caught cheating would.
Also, it would be a shocker to the world if it was found out JJ was a cheat, not because of her, but because of the people she has worked with over the years. It would implicate Michael (she did a duet with him, so he would have known) and Justin Timberlake (another duet I was surprised to find Janet worked on. Didn't sound like her at all.) Not to mention the entire Jackson family. Now there would be a scandal!
I know the guy who engineered JLo's albums and although she had a lot of "help", this bi is not about her.

I don’t think it’s J-Lo and Britney because they just don’t sound good enough to be paying big bucks to use someone else’s voice. Studio enhance and multilayered voice tracks? Sure, but not a complete other person singing everything.
I guess I have to go with Shania. I’m not a country fan but it’s disheartening to hear how rude she is. She seemed very down to earth in an interview I’d seen.
One more thing: Not sure if someone has suggested this before, but do you think Enty comes here under a different name and posts a "guess" that is the actual answer?
I cannot believe that Sheryl Crowe has not even been a guess. She started out as a back up singer herself, exploded onto the scene, has had well-documented difficult relationships (seems she has had ner heart broken often) and recently adopted a baby.
I may have missed some of the other clues, though.

I saw Cheryl Crowe play live in a very small room. She's the real deal. She sang live unplugged. Amazing singer.
I am not sure I would rule out Mariah just yet. Isn't she pregnant right now, but not announcing? I know it is stretching the clue a bit. I re-read Entys comments about MV and I am assuming the 2000 is not the right year. Enty's first post about MV was in 2006 and he said S entered his office towards the end of 2005.
Isn't it strange Mariah's studio albums dropped off in 2005? Hmmm. Her 2008/2009 sound is much different than it was before. There are plenty of links with Mariah and lip syncing especially live...
