Academy Awards Live Blog Part 2

OK, time for serious drinking. Its been fun. Don't be a stranger.

I love Uggie.

Really anti-climatic.

The crazy just wafts off Tom Cruise

Its been a long time for Meryl since she won. Viola coming over to kiss her is so classy.

"Brad, when you hit on me that night when you were stoned, who knew I would be up here talking about you for Best Actor."

I think George popped a blood vessel.

Closeup on Clooney's face if he loses. I bet he will be halfway out of his seat while Natalie is opening the envelope.

Tom Cruise talking about movies is just like his Scientology rant. That creepy laugh.

Steve Jobs for?????? Elizabeth Taylor was rightfully last.

Jimmy Kimmel as John Cusack

7p-8p

No Oprah. Today is the 7th day and God rested.

The Artist director slipped some tongue to his wife. A real kiss. Not just air. I love French accents.

Hello Ireland. Just for that win, I will celebrate St. Patrick's Day for the next 15 minutes.

Hello Milla. Come look at my Fifth Element.

You know what the Oscars is missing? The Emmy Award singers. #givewilmervalderramaajob

Start with the guy who f**ks his granddaughter & give an award to the guy who f**ks his daughter.Voters have scary stuff on their hard drive

Please be Bridesmaids

Huh. I think Wahlberg picked Moneyball. Angelina was pretty excited a non Brad Pitt movie won.

I almost saw Angelina's "Jolie"

Will Arnett is a funny funny man. Doing a Hulu commercial and mentioning Arrested Development which will only be on Netflix

You can skip the actresses when passing out the candy and popcorn.

Would you rather lose if there were 9 others against you?

50/50 chance of picking best original song

Jonah Hill was behind Brad and Angelina. Now he is next to them. Baby sitter interview?

Penelope Cruz looks like a Spanish Grace Kelly tonight.

An old white guy is the President of the Academy. Shocker.

Yeah, the commercials are as good as the super bowl.

No matter Elizabeth Taylor's hangups and drama, GOD was she a beautiful woman. These "actresses" that don't eat can't hold a thread to her

this oscar program is like a superbowl blowout. you hang around for the commercials

Meant to say earlier, when Christopher Plummer won it reminded me of William Shatner's story about him in his Broadway Show. Interesting stuff about a play they were in and Shatner had to fill in for him one night as his understudy:

Catch the show if your a Shatner fan, thumbs way up.

Jobs did NOT create Pixar. Neither did he have anything--almost anything--to do with inventing the Mac. We're talking FOAF ur-details.

BigMama said...

George is so so pretty

Jackie said...

So true, BigMama!

Laura said...

I kinda hope George wins.

Ms Cool said...

B. Profane - what is FOAF?

EmEyeKay said...

PLEASE gary oldman!

AliB936 said...

Can Natalie hurry this up?? Gee whiz this is long.

Jason Blue Eyes said...

Brad Pitt Is a damn good actor.

I think George is the only person in Hollywood today who could have fit into the old classic Hollywood. All the others are also-rans.

Janet296 said...

Oh shut up already!!

Anonymous said...

Ok... is the RDJ, sniff, sniff a blind reveal.

Melissa McCarthy is utterly completely revolting to me...fat and vulgar.... maybe because she looks just like my boss who has a coal black soul and has earned her place on the right hand of satan.

auntliddy said...

I am finding Portman annoying- very annoying.

Anonymous said...

and walking dead was beyond awesome tonight!!!

Jason Blue Eyes said...

ecua said...

Yes! Jean DuJardin!

BigMama said...

@Ms Cool - and red lipstick! what a freaking shocker! How very daring of her. But it is so very slimming *eyeroll*

AliB936 said...

Does anyone find it rude win people whip out speeches?

ecua said...

@Kimberly-is skinny and vulgar ok, then?

EmEyeKay said...

sad about Oldman :(

But dang is Jean nice to look at!

Not A Ninny said...

FOAF = Friend of a friend. Closer than that, actually. I'm friends with someone who was very close to Jobs, plus other connections. That's as specific as I can be.

AliB936 said...

@ aunt, you are not the only one. I just feel like she has this stuck up vibe about her. Not sure why I feel this. I also didn't think that she was that great in black swan either.

amelie said...

@Kimberly. I keep kicking myself that I'm not watching Walking Dead !! crap

Amy in MI said...

Ok I must admit, Jean Dujardain (or whatever) is funny as heck...

Jason Blue Eyes said...

Well, he didn't jump over the seats like Roberto Benigni did.

WUWT? said...

I like it when people show REAL enthuasium for winning. That was cool.

auntliddy said...

And no upper lip! I cant warm up to her either. I keep reading how great she is, and I look, but I dont see it!

AliB936 said...

Did they announce best Actress yet? I've been flipping around.

Ms Cool said...

@bigmama - I think the big surprise is the leg slit. LOL re the lipstick.

Laura said...

@ Kimberly - I love Melissa McCarthy!! I have loved her since Gilmore Girls, she is funny and maybe I find vulgar amusing.

Amy in MI said...

I have always understood that Natalie Portman is very pretentious IRL..Daughter of a doctor, and super smart...she looks down upon us commonfolk.

Del Riser said...

With Jean winning Brad and George can't one up each other.

So is Melissa McCarthy vulgar because she is fat or vice-versa? She's real. Don't pretend you don't fart or burp. It happens whether you're fat or skinny. Sheesh.

amelie said...

Ms Cool said...

I get a little tired of people being disgusted at fat people. Being fat is bad enough without knowing people loath and judge you.

AliB936 said...

Viola looks great tonight. Love her look.

AndrewBW said...

Well everyone, I hate to do it, but it's time to sign off. It's going to be midnight before I get to bed at least, and I have to get up tomorrow a.m. hangover or not and read legal documents.

Oh geez, now Colin Firth is talking to the nominees too. Jesus, what a boring evening. Well, anyway hanging out with the CDAN crew made it go easier. Sleep tight all. Or else enjoy the after-party.

Anonymous said...

Im sorry, but has no one ever disliked someone because they look and act like another person.

EmEyeKay said...

I'm with you, Amy

Amy in MI said...

Please let Viola Davis win...... please

Not A Ninny said...

Think, if they give the lead Oscar to Davis they'll avoid Hattie McDaniel'ing her co-star.

EmEyeKay said...

EmEyeKay said...

Night all, thanks for the fun!

Hangover check in the morning -

THANKS ENTY!

amelie said...

Commercials and most of all blogging with CDANer's was the best part... Night all!

DisembodiedThumb said...

And yeah this wasn't a very exciting Oscars but hanging out here and drinking wine made it more fun :)

amelie said...

Yeah French guy thanked him and others in his acceptance speech for best picture

Not A Ninny said...

@Ms Cool -- Even in death I'm wary of dissing Jobs. His influence and legacy will melt faster than the Wicked Witch of the West, because he had few friends and took too much credit for the innovations of others. Still, it's too soon.

As to Pixar, go to Rudy's during lunchtime and express the opinion that Jobs "created" Pixar. You'll get an earful.

Jackie said...

Lots of fun and I'm only slightly tipsy, so I'll have to pick something better next time. Until then!!

Laura said...

They just recapped Angie leg out and the imitation or her! The best part of the show was the cirque du soleil performers.

Amy in MI said...

They really need an Oscar for Best Dog....

timebob said...

I really wish Brett Ratner hadn't stuck his foot in his mouth. I really thing it could of been better with Eddie shitting on them like Ricky does.

Laura said...

My personal best part was posting here with fellow CDAN's and drinking the champagne and Mango to Angie, Hugo and Scorsese! Night everyone!

Random thoughts... said...

Anyone know if wahlberg was right? I'm too lazy to look it up..

califblondy said...

Thanks for doing this again, Enty, even though the show pretty much sucked, we still had fun.

I wasn't thrilled Meryl won, but her speech was my fave.

Angie hasn't been so whacked since the Billie Bob days. I still can't believe she struck that pose.

Wasn't there a blind about a movie actress coming out with a TV show? I'm surprised to see Ashley Judd with a TV series.

timebob said...

It is general knowledge that Steve Jobs didn't create or invent the products. What he did was push the products to be more user friendly and kept standards high. Mostly he knew how to brand and market the shit out of them.

That was his genius.

timebob said...

@Random the only thing Mark got wrong was best actress, he said Viola it was Meryl. Poor Glenn, she is the Susan Lucci of Oscars.

WUWT? said...

Anyone sticking around for Jimmy Kimmel's after-show?

Robin the Mad Photographer said...

The producer for The Artist was going on about various famous moviemakers & mentioned Polanski as one of them...He's an appalling human being, but he IS a damn good director, I'll give him that much. (Plus he got Adrien Brody his Oscar, which made me very happy that year.)

I REALLY don't think Meryl expected to win this one; everyone & their uncle said it would be Viola, and I think she might even have been pushing her as well, since they're such good friends. *fingers crossed for Viola in the future*

When the apocalypse finally happens, the only things left will be cockroaches, Keith Richards...and Harvey Weinstein. (Keith'll hang w/the roaches, though; he DOES have standards, after all...)

Jason Blue Eyes said...

Why isn't there a category for best casting? Casting is a very important piece of moviemaking. But then again these shows are long enough. They don't need to be ading MORE categories.

bnl1016 said...

I'm assuming the Housewife got taken home. Never saw her after that. Never heard about the scuffle either. Must have been someone relatively unimportant I guess.

And NO. I didn't get into any Situations. Maybe some other things. But def no Situations. I'd never be THAT drunk ;-)

Robin the Mad Photographer said...

Surprised RDJ showed up, what w/the new baby, and hope he's not the answer to the BI, or, if he was, that he's taken care of his problem. (Hell, if you hung around w/me, you'd wonder if I were on coke the way I keep sniffing, but nope--just asthma & allergies; I've never done blow in my life & don't intend to start now.) I know the routine w/Gwynnie was scripted & they've worked together before, but she's still got a stick the size of a flagpole stuck up her ass...and no, wearing a bedsheet as a dress, even a couture bedsheet, does not a fashion goddess make. *meow!*

Time for a snack & then to bed...nighty-night, y'all!

timebob said...

thanks all, time for me to go get "precious" with myself.

See you back here tomorrow.

Random thoughts... said...

@ timebob, thanks! @ bnl hope we get some stories this week , we won't tell. Promise ;)

Jason Blue Eyes said...

The E! interviewer is talking to Milla Jovovich. She called her Yo-Yo-Vich. I've ben calling hr JOE-jo-vich for 20 years. Which is it!?

Not A Ninny said...

@timebob -- My sources are Apple's first director of marketing and someone even more early/senior than that. Mostly, the technology evangelism for which Jobs was so lauded for decades was OPI: Other People's Ideas. Not just the technologies themselves but the way in which they were packaged and marketed.

There was something fraudulent about Jobs from his earliest days.

Jason Blue Eyes said...

Now the E! girl is interviewing Shaggy from the Scooby Doo movies. Clooney must have went home.

yourfaceisamess said...

I effing love Sandy so much. I cried when she won a few years ago..same year she won a razzie... She showed up there too even after/during the JJ manwhore scandal. Love her forever.

Not A Ninny said...

...But feel free to be precious with yourself, if you don't have the insider info.

timebob said...

Calm down Profane, no need to get your panties in a twist.

It isn't exactly insider info when it has been discusse openly for years.

I haven't read it but Walter Isaacson bio of Jobs pretty much covers what is known.

Neither did Bill Gates invent anything he just pushed it to the masses.

iheartjacksparrow said...

What happened to Mark Wahlberg being told that Viola Davis won for Best Actress?

ecua said...

Wait...did Enty mean Brad Pitt hit on
Natalie Portman?? Uh oh. Angelina's going to have it out for her!

Not A Ninny said...

@timebob -- I'm cool if you're cool.

Look, just to make up for past disputes, some real gossip: it has long been rumored that Jobs did not drop out of college but left before being expelled for mercantilism of a felonious nature. I could confirm that but never have.

timebob said...

i'm cool profane, I wasn't arguing with you, I was agreeing with you. Jobs was never a master inventor he piggybacked off others. He got fired from Apple for a reason.

I 100% believe he would be expelled. This is a guy who denied paternity to his first daughter. He didn't acknowledge her until she was 18. This coming from a man who was adopted himself, is pretty low.

Jason Blue Eyes said...
This comment has been removed by the author.
Not A Ninny said...

Apparently everyone is talking about Cruise's possessed-robot delivery of the Best Picture nod. So Enty, any dirt on the big Scientology case that Obama's DOJ is sitting on until after the election? I've heard that the indictments are already drawn up. TC as un-indicted co-conspirator? Could happen!

ForSure said...

Well I had to leave to attempt to cook dinner while watching the show with one eye. Horrible dinner (I'm not a good cook at all), and seems like I missed a few good parts. I still haven't seen Milla's dress. Guess I'll see everyone around here tomorrow.

yodelay said...

Muuull tee pass

Not A Ninny said...

Meryl has got to be the answer to the BI about the Oscar winner/nominee whose drinking has been getting out of control. She's clearly half-sloshed in the aftershow interviews and her husband looked like he wasn't sure if she'd make it to the podium without falling over.

Princess said...

Did Enty really question why Steve Jobs was included in the Memorium? Hello Enty? Jobs bought Pixar?

I'm now watching clips online of the red carpet, which I missed earlier. The red carpet interview with George Clooney with Stacy beside him--they looked like a couple that had had an argument getting ready. All smiles for the interviews, but inches of ice between them and no interaction with each other. Makes me think they could be somewhat real. If it's all an act, wouldn't they act happier together?

And do we know why Angelina and Brad went through the red carpet separately?

Angela said...

Jobs maybe didn't contribute a lot of artistic ideas to Pixar but he was for a while a studio mogul, and did a lot of negotiations and paperwork with Disney, plus all the stuff about the iTunes Store with the other studios. He was also the biggest individual shareholder in Disney.
Catmull, Lasseter had the artistic vision for Pixar but without Jobs, they wouldn't have succeeded that quick and they would have been eaten alive by Katzenberg or Eisner. That alone would justify a nod by the Academy.

Angela said...

@ B. Profane
Please chill out, your hot gossip is about as old as the remaining portions of human skin on Madonna's face. It's even covered in his authorized biography... The story about his first daughter has been known for decades and he even said that it was the worst ghost in his closet. But he had very complicated feelings on that matter. He didn't acknowledge paternity for a while (he did actually well before she was 18) but named a computer using her name.

Jobs was in no way an engineer. And it's true that he used ideas by other people (well, at least, you didn't give us some "scoop" like the fact the graphical interface was taken from the Xerox PARC) without giving them enough credit, at least in his early years. But his talent was to take an idea and bring it into fruition so that anybody could take advantage of it. And the final product, on which his hands were all over, was the result of a huge amount of work, that went far beyond just ripping an idea to put it into an already existing product.
Ideas filled his vision. Microsoft does stuff with mostly the same ideas, with some efficiency but without any personality or obsessiveness like Jobs could.

And I doubt he was expelled from college for something fraudulent. Many people from the college would have talked about it by now. And when the FBI did some report on him in the early 90s, when he was considered for appointment on some official trade commission, they did point out that he did a lot of weed and LSD in college but didn't mention any crime or misdemeanor.
So, go back in your Pynchon novel, Jobs is dead now. he may or may not be remembered in a few decades but, as for anybody, it's up to History to determine his real legacy, not to a guy on a gossip site.

Not A Ninny said...

Angela, you're just regurgitating what you cribbed off Wiki. There is a lot about Jobs' life that isn't in any biography. Now that he's dead, more people will talk.

The difference is, you know what you've read in books; I know the people who were the sources for those books, and I know what they haven't (yet) told.

So when the Kitty Kelly bio. of Jobs is published and it's revealed that he was much more of a fraudulent huckster than people realized, just remember that you heard it from me first.
