I Really Like Katherine Heigl Right Now

When I first saw the news yesterday that Katherine Heigl was adopting a child, my first thought was that is a good public relations move and her husband Josh needed something to do during the day anyway so this would be good for him. Then, I remembered those pictures of Katherine at her sister's wedding and realized that her sister was adopted so Katherine has experience with children who have been adopted. I then saw that not only was Katherine adopting a child almost a year old but the child she is adopting is a special needs child. Oh, and as a bonus, the baby's birthday is one day from Katherine's and she says she doesn't mind sacrificing her birthday for her new daughters.

Umm, ok, wow. Katherine Heigl has moved to the nice side of Santa's list. She has named her daughter Naleigh which is a combination of Katherine's mother and sister's names and not anything close to Sparrow Midnight. Katherine is doing her part to help the unemployment rate because now she can hire TR Knight to be a babysitter and save him from the unemployment line.

Good for them - it's a very noble thing for them to do.

I've always liked Heigl. She's a bit too outspoken sometimes (I find it entertaining but am sure some of the people she works with don't feel the same way), but she seems very genuine.

This seems like really nice thing to do. I don't think I can be cynical about someone adopting a special needs baby, which so many would never do (I might adopt in the future, and don't know yet if I could do that).

Can't stand her and hope that her intent is as true as she is stating and one would only hope. I'll resist stating my initial thoughts.

That's nice. It doesn't make her a saint though. She's not the first person to adopt a special needs child and she won't be the last. It is a good thing.

Canadachick: I read somewhere she's been cancer stick free for 2 weeks now or something...

How does she plan on caring for a special needs child and working so many hours on a tv-show? I know it takes a lot of work and time. But if it helps other consider adopting a special needs child, then thats good.

Good for her! :)

Cali Girl, I haven't been able to figure out a way to turn them off.

Do you think she will annoy her kid as much as she annoys us?

I'm sure she'll have nannies. I say good on her, qualified help will be more expensive, I'm sure, and she can afford it. I'd prefer that she quit GA and become a full-time mother, but that probably isn't gonna happen.

It took me a couple of weeks to figure out how to turn off the bing links, and now we have new ones. I hate hate hate these infolinks, and there's no info on their site about turning them off. Thanks, Enty.

No, I just don't like her character on GA. Since for whatever reason, the show won't fire her, I'd he happy if she quit the show and used the excuse of more family time.

Adopting a kid, any kid, is a good thing. I still think she's a douche and will never like her.

Lol, I'm sure this move will be some kind of proof for her minions to point out what a saint Hagel really is.

Wonder if this is why she took the leave of absence from GA.

This almost makes me like her. I at least have a new respect for what she has done.

To all those asking who'll take care of the kid while Heigl is working: She has a husband. I assume he is also adopting this child.

If she really wanted to do good, she would adopt the child without a press release telling us how wonderful she is.

I'll tell you my initial thought - reminds me of that story Ent told a couple of years ago about the couple "renting" out the little girl to other Hollywood couples and promising her to 2 of them. Not saying that's what I foresee for this child, just got me thinking what Hollywood couples wouldn't do for publicity.

I hope this is not the case and they want to, and will, be good parents.

Just thought I'd point out to all the haters..how she is currently not working on Grey's to spend time with her new daughter. The woman is a genuinely nice person and it is a shame that just because she has an opinion (which I usually agree with) she is vilified for it.
