Coachella Goes To Two Weekends

Can Coachella sell two weekends full of tickets with the same exact lineups two weekends in a row? I don't know. One weekend is usually enough. Cleaning crews are going to have to work nonstop to get that place ready for the next weekend. There are actually concerts there after Coachella but there is usually a two week window because of the cleaning involved.

Has the parking got any better? My husband and I went 3 years ago and had a great time, but the parking was horrific and we had to park about 2-3 miles away and walk. Nothing worse than having to walk off a good drunk.

I soooooooo want to go, but I can't afford it :(

Isn't Stage Coach right after?

I've heard the parking is horrible and like Mindy said you gotta walk for miles. That's not easy in heels.

Nobody on the line-up worth it for me.

califblondy,
my piggies were killing me. lost feeling in them for days. :)

will Terrence Malick and a hot actor be there to film the fest? it's my question

I'm definitely getting old; the only acts that appeal to me are Feist, Wild Flag, and Florence + The Machine. ;-)

ITA about the walking. It's enough just walking to all the stages for ACL. I don't need a couple extra miles in and out of the place too. I'm good for 10-15 miles a day but three days in a row? Not so much. Also agree there isn't anyone on the lineup that is worth the effort.

They'll pack them in. I want to go, I want to goooo.

At least we won't have to see photos of Alex Skarsgard with Kate Bosworth there this year. :)

I so dislike going to these things... Just because of the bathroom situation.

I cannot go into a transportable shit hole.

Wow. Mazzy Star is still around?

@Rita, I could not agree with you more! Portapotties seriously freak me out. I would rather pee behind a bush than go in a portapotty.

I am too old for festivals. I used to be quite the enthusiast though. Camping and portapotties and all.

I might go now if I could stay at a hotel nearby...*L*

@Rita - my fear of porta potties has always kept me away from things like this.

They dont need 2 weeks to clean because the Coachella crowd will accept a halfway cleaned site.

Am I the only one who *yawns* at all these music festivals? Big whoop. Seems to me you'd have to sit through alot of meh acts just to see a 20 minute set from someone you care about.

Same here.

I don't mind camping, and roughing it up. don't mind digging my own mini-shithole, but the transportable ones freak me out. And peeing behind the bushes while two junkies get it on, is beyond my yuck factor.

califblondy - Why the heck would you wear heels to Coachella? I've been several times and it seems kind of ridiculous to me that someone would wear heels. It's all grass! And hotter than hell! I guess you're quite a trooper!

Other than that, I'm sure that both weekends will sell out. No problem.

Miss J, oh believe me, I wouldn't do it now A family member went last year with super high heeled boots. She's much younger, she can do it.

Ewww, who mentioned port-a-potties? There's only one way I can even touch the door and that's after five or fifteen beers.

I once almost fried all my skin off at Lollapalooza because I didn't realize we couldn't go out to our car to get sunscreen then get back in. I guess they were trying to keep people from boozing/drugging it up? Anyway, since then, no outdoor festivals for me.

@awesomeballa - You still out there? You going??

I only know, like a 1/4 of those bands (I LOVE Bon Iver), but I'd still love to go. Sigh.

I went to Stagecoach last year (2 weeks after Coachella) and it was in the 90s (as opposed to 110) and hot as hell! Music was great but the festival style is not for me.

The portapotties looked nasty but smelled ok due to the massive amounts of air freshener. Best to get there right after they clean them. :)

I have always wanted to go, but I could never afford it, and now I am a fat blob of a person who would HATE being around all the skinny perfects that show up...maybe that is just my delusional version of things ;)

Oh, and I could stay with my Aunt down in Palm Springs, but she and my uncle are batspit crazy, so I will pass :)

Well, this proves I'm getting old--there isn't really anyone on the bill that I'm all that excited about. Interesting to see fIREHOSE on the bill, though--I took a picture of Mike Watt that ended up on the back of the fROMOHIO album, but w/someone else's name on it. (Yes, I called up SST Records & told them. Yes, it was a mistake, and the plan was to fix it on a subsequent pressing. No, that didn't happen. *sigh* But Watt's still a very cool guy and a total mensch...)

Call yourself a celebrity and you get helicoptered in from L.A.
And not to be racist, but these things just don't work, they try to add "rap" into the lineup and they don't realize what they are doing. Do you think anyone that is there to see Dr. Dre is going to give 2 damns about Florence and the Machine, or anyone else on the lineup for that matter? So what kind of crowd does is draw? People that want to see Dr. Dre only because he doesn't perform that much, and leaves for the rest of the performances, whereas many that want to see all those other acts, will avoid the place because of the kind of crowd the "rap" acts draw.
Been to too many shows where they try to mix the genres to the extreme like this and it's always terrible.

__-__=__ said...

Jessica, you're right about that. Baltimore has a festival ArtScape. It's changed to hip hop almost exclusively over the years. They used to have amazing soul and R&B acts too but now not so much. Too bad for me but there's still a large crowd every time.

Murphy Brown 2020 said...

LOL. ''Not to sound racist, but...''

Reminds me of the video Enty posted a week or so ago. ;-)

I'm just here to say that I'm a white girl who'd love to see Dr.Dre AND Florence + The Machine -- but NOT at a venue that consists of a muddy field and port-a-potties.

Chrissy Buns said...

@Elvira...I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be muddy, it's in the desert, lol! It isn't like Glastonbury, which would have fabulous music, but mud EVERYWHERE!!!

Murphy Brown 2020 said...

Chrissy -- Good point. :-) But I definitely wouldn't go to a festie in the desert, either.

Chrissy Buns said...

Oh yes, talk about one extreme to the other!!!

Lelaina Pierce said...

@Elvira - I was thinking the same thing! :)
