ANTM Contestant Wins Miss California USA
Yesterday I wrote about the two openly gay women who were the first to compete for the title of Miss California USA. Neither of them won or even made it to the finals. That was not really a surprise. Although they are both attractive, these contests are all about putting in your dues for years and doing everything right rather than how you look. Anyway, the winner was Natalie Pack who was on America's Next Top Model in Season 12.
In her first lie as Miss California, Natalie says she does not do pageants and this was her first. Umm, what is ANTM? To me that is a nationally televised beauty pageant. She made it seem like she was all new to this and that she would prefer riding motorcycles and did this on a whim to find her feminine side. Well she managed to practice that shocked winning face that is lesson #1.

Well, in all due fairness trying to be a model or being on a reality show *is* way different then the pageant world, so good on her. Who knows if she's lying though, seems like something easily found out.
Surely if Tyra Banks teaches you to smize, you must be a seasoned competitor! I mean, it's ANTM! America looks to the winner of that show to be THE next top model! Oh, wait, no they don't...
Who gives a shit? We're talking about a reality show and a beauty pageant, not the Nobels or Pulitzers!

Technically ANTM is not a pageant and from my limited understanding it would be very different. I am sure some of it helped her but she isn't truly lying.
I get what Enty is saying she is trying to represent herself as totally green to the Pagent world and had no prior experience and that makes a better Cinderella story. But she does have ambitions and motives to be a model and clearly went for it on ANTM. Not so Cinderella.
It isn't a lie technically but it is deceiving.
I don't know -- no one would ever say Project Runway is a pageant, or Top Chef, or Survivor, or the Bachelor, or American Idol etc. I get what Enty's saying. But equating one reality TV competition with a beauty pageant really doen't seem to work, in all fairness.
But Amy, ANTM IS a beauty pageant. It's just a more dramatized and slightly more glamorous version of one. The other shows you listed attract contestants who have more going for them than just good looks. They've got talent to bring to the competition.
They really need to change the name of this thing to Miss 909 USA.

Was she the blind one? All I remember of Tyra's crapfest was the blonde blind model. She was legally blind, and they telling her to take off her glasses.

As for this chick winning, cool. I'm surprised to see anyone from that nutball fake ass show doing anything in the public sphere.
Ever since Janice Dickenson revealed the reason she left was because she found out Covergirl actually chooses the model they wan to win from the beginning and the judges have zero choice in the matter I just lost all interest.

ANTM is my guilty pleasure (as if I only have one *LOL*) but I don't remember this trick.
I don't think ANTM and pageants are anything alike at all.
Jeez, I don't remember her either. Although, she was in Creepy Chan's season, so it's not surprising she didn't stand out in comparison. (I'm still pissed about that 'cycle' - Teyona over CC? Seriously? And fucking Lisa over CC in all-stars? Seriously?! Yes, I am way too invested in that shitty show.)

I don't think they are the exact same thing but I don't understand why she would downplay her time on that show, either.

I didn't even recognize Natalie with blonde hair! Also, ANTM is just a reality show... that tries to get girls to model. Whether they do so successfully after the show speaks of their talent and ability, but I don't think that the show qualifies as a pageant. In fact, Tyrannosaurus and company are quite snarky about former pageant queens

To everyone who doesn't recognize her-she was the spoiled rich chick who, after she got booted, accused ANTM of trick editing that made her look like a spoiled rich chick. She was a brunette on the show.
Oh, now I remember her. She was the one that had a huge screaming fight with Tyra when she got eliminated, and for god knows what reason, they didn't air it. That would've been epic. Between that and not explaining what happened with Angelea, they are breaking the cardinal rule of reality tv - the more embarrassing for everyone involved, the better!
