Timmy Hint For Tonight
NOT Sandy Dennis
NOT Shirley Booth
I don't think anyone has mentioned Timmy on any blog. I'm not absolutely, positively, 100% sure because there are so many comments on so many different blogs and sites but to the best of my knowledge no one has mentioned Timmy.

«Oldest ‹Older 201 – 223 of 223From IMDb (about Alice Brady):
"Between 1911 and 1933 she appeared in thirty-three Broadway productions. These include the revivals of the hits "The Pirates of Penzance" and "H.M.S. Pinafore", as well as "Little Women" (as Meg) and the original 1931 stage production of Eugene O'Neill's "Mourning Becomes Electra" (as Lavinia Mammon). "
Timmy went out to Hollywood, was in films as a man, then did a role as a woman, became an actress professionally, came back to Hollywood at some point for a screen test for a good part, got it, and later won an award for a different part.
This just isn't Alice Brady. And it isn't Marie Dressler, or Josephine Hull, either. Or Judy Holliday.
Only Kay Kendall fits, and only if one disassociates her with her family and country and gender.
P.S. Although no one has suggested Carole Landis, who killed herself, one very interesting tidbit about her death stands out to me: she was in love with Rex Harrison, but he wouldn't leave his wife, Lilli Palmer, for Carole, so she killed herself. Rex found the body.
Does the story sound at all familiar?
ATTN: All you people who have seen "LES GIRLS" !!
Did you see a scar??
I don't necessarily think that Shimmy has to be someone whose family is dead and won't make a big stink about Ent revealing the family secret....
I still maintain that Ent's posting could quite possibly be intended to generate a buzz for someone's upcoming book - either Ent's book or the book by a surviving relative of Shimmy's.
dschingis, you really think an overweight woman who was 5'2" and a man who was thin and 5'10" are the same person?
Well, how about the fact that Shimmy is supposed to have won multiple awards? None of them seem to fit that except for Hull.
Maybe he's referring to minor awards not reported in IMDB.
dschingis,
>Timmy's homosexuality was compounded by the fact that he was very slightly built, had very pale features and a skin condition that prevented much hair growth on his body.>>
I think Hattie is out as a selection because of this. :)
Hattie McDaniel had a career that lasted many decades, right into the 50s. She was 5'2", which can clearly be seen right in Gone with the Wind. And she was very dark-skinned, and fat. And she appeared as a woman in many films during the same years Stepin Fetchit was appearing as a man.
Sorry, but the theory doesn't hold a drop of water.
P.S. I suspect we're going to find out something that EL might not know himself, that this will turn out not to be true. A rumor, something that J.J. himself didn't know wasn't true.
Either that, or EL has purposely mixed up the facts he's given us, which seems less likely, since he'd have to save face.
I don't see a scar on Kay Kendall in Les Girls. She looks strange, though. Her nose looks strange.
She could have been a man, no question about that. Whether she was, well, that's the question.
Carole Landis is not Shimmy but what a fascinating person!
If it would be so obvious, it would have been figured out by now. so i go beyond obvious.
At least in that specific sun picture, hattie looks like a man.
bring another timmy in. that would be ok. just, beeing black it would not be so easy to find some who fits the bill :-)
Plus, we dont know what the skin condition is a result of. in some cases you dont need too long to gain a lot of weight. Plus some wished disguise, and its done. We speak about the thirties here, where medicine wasnt too developed.
i still think its a strong guess.
Hi again.
Many thanks to Sleuth, Twisted Sister, Grace, and Operaghost for your kind comments. We're so glad to be here with you.
We watched "Gay Divorcee" tonight, and we're thinking this capture says it all.
Thoughts? Are we off base?
I also wanted to address some of the posts that say that when Timmy died of AIDS in 1980-85, he must not have been very old b/c old people generally are more settled and not sexually active.
I do not think you ought to rule anyone out based on that assumption. It is entirely likely that Timmy could have been a sexually active elderly gay man. He could have even had a long term partner and still have had AIDS. Charles Nelson Reilly just died in May at age 76 after a year long battle with pneumonia. He was survived by a long term partner.
Ed, it's really tough to tell based on a still, if someone is a man or a woman. So many of them seemed manly back in the day. It's uncanny really. There seems to be less of that these days, perhaps because back then talent was the thing and now emphasis seems to be on looks. I do think it's down to either Kay Kendall or Alice Brady, however.
Poznaznorml, I totally agree with you. I also don't think we should discount anyone simply because "they would be almost 100 by the time they died." Yes, some people do live that long. My friend just lost her grandfather and he was 105, so this does happen.
**********THIS JUST IN FROM EL**********
Shimmy is NOT
Mercedes McCambridge
Judy Holiday
Timmy is NOT
Danny Kaye
Tomorrow night I will provide two more NOT's and also give big hint for Timmy
judy holliday did have a lot of award for born yesterday
Golden Globe - Actress in a Leading Role Musical or Comedy (1951) for "Born Yesterday"
AP Correspondents Best Actor of the Year (1951) for "Born Yesterday"
Academy Award - Best Actress (1951) for "Born Yesterday"
New York Film Critics Circle Award - Best Actress (1950) Runner-up for "Born Yesterday"
darn he just ruled out judy
I've been spending way too much time reading and researching this. LOL
The reveal had better be worth it!!! I'm sure it will be.
BTW, Twisted, I wasnt in any way implying that Danny Kaye was the closeted A- lister. I was giving my reasons why I didn't think that he was Timmy. I guess I didn't make myself clear.
Anyway, after hours of reading the biographies of dead actors and theatre actors that have died of AIDS, pneumonia, and cancer, I've had enough for one night. Time to go do some living.
God, I can't believe I'm so wrapped up in this.
Carla, I don't even know what I said about Danny Kaye at this point. I'm sorry! It gets really confusing after a while...lol.
I couldn't see a scar in Les Girls, but Kay Kendall really looks manly to me. The Alice Brady stuff is very intriguing though.
Can't wait to find out who Timmy is.
@david
about Hattie - if it says the carreer lasted many into the 50´s this is still a part of the imdb bio wich we could partially rule out.
:0
Poznaznorml,
I said sexually adventurous not sexually active, that would be presumptuous of me.
I said "more settled with their partners and lives rather than be sexually adventurous". Of course there are exceptions but not very likely. How high is the probability of someone in their late 70's onwards to still have many one night stands or multiple partners?
Especially in those pre-Viagra days.
OMG @ that screen cap!!!!!!!! OK, That pushed me pretty firmly over to the AB side, Ed. More than any book/movie deal rumor ever could! Sheeeeesh!!!!! :D
