Diane Sawyer - Drunk During Election Coverage

ABC is not necessarily the first network of choice for people watching election coverage and Diane Sawyer might have thought she was using that to her advantage last night. Most of the night she seemed out of it and really looked drunk or tipsy, or maybe just on some new medications. She slurred her words, talked non-stop, used the news desk to keep from falling down, and just seemed like Paula Abdul during her worst American Idol days.

So do you think way back in February Rihanna's people were thinking to themselves, "you know what? In 8 or 9 months Rihanna is going to have a new album coming out. I don't think she should talk about the beating by Chris Brown until then." Now, I'm sure her people would say they had to wait until the conclusion of the criminal case. I however am a little more cynical than that. She hasn't uttered a word about what happened back in February until it benefited her. In the interview with ABC news she talks about how she wants to be there for everyone and it could happen to anyone. Uh huh. Yes, it could which is why it would have been nice if you had been out there speaking about it when it didn't look like all your were doing was trying to increase your record sales.

Don't be fooled. That is exactly why she is talking about it now. There is no other reason. None. She is using a beating as a way to sell more records. She has done nothing and said nothing for almost nine months. She hasn't tried to help a single woman or share her story or do anything other than wait to talk about it at a time when it would financially benefit her the most. At some point you have to be a human and help others and not only be thinking about yourself. Rihanna hasn't reached that point yet.

I was going through the usual billion or so photos to find ten or fifteen I could make some smart ass remark about in Random Photos when I stumbled upon this gem. Now, you might be saying to yourself, "what is the big deal about a photo of the KneePad Queen Diane Sawyer?" Normally nothing.

However, this particular photo was taken as Diane Sawyer was leaving the baby shower of Jennifer Lopez. Yep. The reporter who refused to ask any tough questions got invited to the baby shower of the interviewee. I'm sure there were some wonderful gift bags given away at the shower, but I am hoping that some shred of journalistic ethics found their way into Diane Sawyer's mind and that it would have been too much like journalism for sale if she took one on the way out. I bet she did buy Jennifer a gift though and Jennifer was probably telling Dina e how grateful she was for not having to answer any question about her pregnancy on the air.

Diane then would have got off her knees or finished bowing or whatever she does when she is in front of the people whose ass she kisses. But, then Katie Holmes walked through a side door, so Diane had to get back down on her knees. Unfortunately Larry King beat her to Katie Holmes.

Why on earth would Diane Sawyer go to this shower? Is she deluding herself into thinking she asked tough questions? Isn't this going to make it even tougher to ever ask any meaningful question at any point in the future? Is it all so she can have the first "interview" after the twins are born? Is it because her husband wants them in a film? I used to respect Diane Sawyer. Now. Not so much.

Diane Sawyer Can't Be Trusted

Two months ago Diane Sawyer decided to only throw Jennifer Lopez softball questions and didn't even ask if she were pregnant. Instead Diane Sawyer kissed Jennifer's ass and made a fool out of herself as a journalist. Now, Diane Sawyer decided to give Katie Holmes a free pass by not asking Katie any questions which might even really be considered real questions. There were no Andrew Morton questions, and absolutely no personal questions at all.

Good Morning America's producer fell on his sword but the fact is that Diane Sawyer "interviewed" Katie Holmes for eight minutes. The producer says he cut off the interview at that point because he didn't think it was going anywhere. Later, he changed his tune and said that Diane had wanted to keep going, and that it was the producer's fault for stopping it.

How much longer could the interview have gone? Go watch any of the morning shows or late night talk shows and see how many minutes of actual talk time they give each guest. Go ahead and put a stopwatch to it. If you want answers, you know you are going to have to get them quick.

I have a few theories as to why Diane Sawyer drops to her knees so quickly. The first is that Jennifer Lopez and Katie Holmes are both Scientologists. I don't think Diane Sawyer is, but you never know. Maybe her husband, Director Mike Nichols is a Scientologist or wants to be able to work with Tom or Jennifer or Katie in the future so Diane intentionally doesn't do anything to piss off and actor or actress or screenwriter she comes into contact with on the show. All I know is that this has got to stop. It has nothing to do with Scientology, or anything like that. I have been just as pissed off at Larry King for his interviews. These anchors try way too hard to become the friend of the celebrity and not hard enough at doing their actual job. Everyone wants to know what questions we want asked and answered and if you are too afraid for yourself, your job, your husband, your fame, or your associations, then let someone else do it.

I Might Owe Diane Sawyer An Apology

The key word above is might. As you may recall I gave Diane Sawyer an honorary Larry King Award for her failure to ask Jennifer Lopez about her pregnancy during a recent episode of Good Morning America. Instead, Diane got out her knee pads and asked some lame question about how Jennifer was feeling and then just carried on with her morning show drivel. Well, it turns out that Diane MIGHT be able to give back the award, or in this case just shove it right up Marc Anthony's ass. (although he may like that)

It turns out there was a deal in place that Diane was going to ask some questions which would allow Jennifer to announce on the air she was pregnant. The deal was in place and everything was set. Allegedly Jennifer was going to give up the goods about the pregnancy in return for a Barbara Walters (BJ) special, either as one of the most fascinating people of the year or on the Academy Awards show BJ does.

Immediately prior to Diane asking the question, Jennifer whispered to Diane NOT to ask any questions about any pregnancy, and that she wasn't going through with the deal. Even though Diane had been sandbagged, she did manage to throw out that lame question about how she was feeling.

Now, if all this is true, then it would let Diane off the hook for the Larry King Award, BUT she should have been pissed enough to ask the damn question anyway. What is Jennifer going to do if you ask her straight out? Is she going to run off the stage like Ashlee Simpson? Is she going to evade the question and look like an idiot? Is Marc going to run out and insert his scrawny ass in between Jennifer and Diane? Maybe Jen and Marc vow never to do GMA again. Who the hell cares? It's not like they were real ratings winners anyway, and you know they won't blow off the network. So, although Jennifer threw Diane and GMA under a bus, Diane should still have asked the damn question.
