Love Bites Gets Canceled
So many shows gets canceled that it would take forever to talk about each one, but since it is a slow day and because I gave Love Bites a couple of views, I thought I would write something. Lately in Hollywood there has been this obsession with getting as many stars in one picture as humanly possible and the way to afford that is to film short segments for each so their filming days are limited. It has been a trend before, but ever since He Is Just Not That Into You the format has taken off again and as long as people keep paying bucks to see the movies, Hollywood will keep making them.
So, of course the studios said this would work on television and it really didn't. When you go to a movie you are in front of the screen the whole time. Yes, you might get up for a second, but you start at the beginning and finish watching at the end. With Love Bites, the whole anthology thing didn't work because you only have 22 minutes, people come in and out of programs, surf channels or forget to tune in when it starts. I watched it a couple of times and it felt disjointed and there was no attaching yourself to characters or anything which made it tough. It was interesting to see that Greg Grunberg looks like he packed on about 50 pounds since the end of Heroes. In something that even shocks me, the one episode I actually liked featured Michelle Trachtenberg who I thought was really well cast. Probably the last nice thing about Michelle I will ever say, but it is a start.

MT is also walking on to Weeds this season. I'm not a fan, but if she can win over Enty I'll give her a shot.
I watched this show and loved it. And I didn't like MT in this only because I liked the girl in the pilot and wasn't happy that she was replaced.
I'm pissed that there's one episode left that NBC won't even air it. It's ONE effing episode!
I loved the show. Of course I watched it online and didn't channel surf - so I didn't lose track of the characters & their story lines.
And I agree - it's one flipin' episode NBC - you cheap bastards - air it!

Never saw the show because I don't have cable, just netflix but 22 minutes doesn't sound long enough. I would say if they made it one season focusing on a group of people would have been better, Or if thats what they did maybe I'll look it up on Youtube or Hulu.
I really liked this show, especially how a character (or characters) would randomly appear in other episodes.
last week's episode might have been the weakest for me, but I LOVED at the end how all three stories came together.
I just want Becki Newton's character to get with the guy from the first episode.
I only watched an episode, I thought the concept sounded interesting, but really didn't like the tone of it. I couldn't figure out of it was a comedy or parody or just not funny at all.
Never watched an episode, but my friends song was played during one if them. She was really excited about it. :)
I only watched 1/2 of an episode, the one with Jennifer Love Hewitt. Not sure if it sucked just because Jennifer was in it or if it really just sucked. But for sure did not keep my interest.

I'd honestly never heard of it before today...
Love Bites is (was) an hour-long show, so you actually get 42 minutes to tell your story. The 42 minutes have been divided into three mini-stories that are then tied together at the end. It wasn't a great show, but it was a fun show, certainly better than reality television and most of what the networks give us during the vast wasteland known as summer programming. Sorry it was canceled.

I like SOME anthology type movies (ex. Love Actually).
I am pretty disappointed about this even though I knew it was coming since it had been over a year since it was filmed. It is actually a very sweet and funny show and, yes, it is an hour long not a half hour. Much better than a lot of what is out there.
When done well, anthology movies are great. I'm thinking of Robert Altman. To add, I really liked He's Just Not That Into You.
I only watched the first episode. The one with Jennifer Love Hewitt. It wasn't my thing. Constance Zimmer was way better on "Entourage." Anthology doesn't work for TV. You need a core group of characters to care about and that you want to revisit each week. This is a problem I'm having with "True blood" this year. Too many new characters. Who the fuck cares what's going on with Alcide and Debbie pelt?
I agree with what Anita said above. Anthology movies are great like Altman's "Short Cuts" or the brilliant "Magnolia."
Good Lord, Jason, yes. How many more characters must they bring in? I just deleted what I wrote in case of spoilers for others but yes, stop with the 15,000 storylines. I think I just watch that show out of sheer habit and I text my friend during it and we make fun of it.
It took a couple of episodes but I was really into this show. So bummed they cancelled it.
I started to really like the way they had 3 mini love stories they tied together. And Greg Gunberg & Constance Zimmer & Becki Newton were at the center of nearly every episode. I hope they release the last episode.
@Jason--I care about Alcide and Debbie Pelt. It gives Joe more airtime. ;)
I could do without Tommy and the Minkins though. They bore me to tears.
True Blood needs to just show Eric. Skip the rest of the anthology cast, please, including Bill!
I watched it once and they made a tasteless 9/11 joke. So no thanks. Glad they're cancelled.
I disagree - I loved it. Sure, it took a while to get the rhythm going, but then you got to know the regulars and it was neat how they tied in with the guest stars.
The silver lining is that Constance Zimmer is going to have a guest arc on Royal Pains, and I love that show even more.
