Fantasia Barrino Loses Her House

In a week that saw Taylor Swift pay $17M in cash for a home which she will probably only use a few weeks a year, it was sad to see that Fantasia Barrino finally gave up trying to keep her $1M home and transferred the title to the bank without having them go through all the foreclosure proceedings. Fantasia had been trying to sell the house, but even after cutting the price could not find any takers. Four years ago she almost lost the home but managed to save it at the last minute. She had taken out loans on the property to pay off all her back taxes. If she needs a place to crash, she should ask Taylor.

If she spent her time working and earning a living instead of chasing after a married man, having an abortion adn then later having a son with said married man, who left her and went back to his wife.....

She would not be in this mess.

Never let a man bring you down. If he hurts your feelings or your pride that is one thing... but neve left a piece of garbage help to ruin you financially.

@mspinkkitty. Yes to everything you wrote. I am not surprised at all that this happened considering Fantasia was more interested in creating drama and not earning a living. Taylor on the other hand is extremely intelligent in her financial dealings and career focused so she can more than afford to buy a 17 million dollar home in cash. I just shake my head at the decisions Fantasia makes in her life but hope this will help her wise up.

Amen Ms Pink Kittt! Not to mention her whining about gay marriage a few months back, that was what did me off of her. In her eorld shes a saint and gays are the sinners--I say f that shiz.

Can Taylor afford that house?
I am sure she has money and know she paid cash - but there has got to be a ton spent on taxes and upkeep.

I hope she didn't sink a lot of her fortune in it, because in 5 years when the next big thing comes along she'll need to unload it when they money doesn't come as fast and the checks aren't as big

In unrelated news.... Reese gave an interview to Red magazine that makes it sound like the blind this passed weekend about a new coke habit and distancing from an old friend might not be JLaw! Thank goodness. Looks like the mess might have actually been about Reese!

The truly sad part is Fantasia has had financial problems for many years...

Simon Cowell and Oprah have helped get her on the right track in the past... And, Fantasia mucked that up too.

Hopefully, the public humiliation of her dealings with "Mr. Cook" will keep her on a straight and narrow path going forward.

@Cecilia, I think Taylor is still well-established within the country music universe, where fans tend to be more loyal than in the pop sector. She can probably do the country circuit for the next 20-30 years if she wants to. Wasn't George Jones still touring into his 80s?

LOL I doubt it!!!

Plus @ Nutty flavor Taylor has a fragrance line that is performing well and a greeting card line which should provide her long term financial stability a la Michael Jordan who earns 80 million a year without breaking a sweat due to long term endorsements. She also has other endorsements that earn her money in the short term.

I don't like to see anyone squandor opportunity or talent. She was once an American idol under Oprah's wing and a Broadway star. That she has managed to so spectacularly trash her life is really sad. I hope she gets it together, reprioritizes, and moves forward.

this is what is meant about karma coming for you, Fantasia. Don't interfere in relationships.

This is why you invest wisely. Don't go buying all the big stuff right away. Put most of your money in the bank or solid investments. Then you won't have to worry about running out of money.

Agreed @pink Kitty.......

Fantasia strikes me as someone who was never driven by any great love of singng or performing in general. More like she was someone with a great voice who went on AI and happened to win. In the years since, she's not displayed any great passion for singing. Compare and contrast her with the likes of Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, and Adam Lambert and the difference in production quantity and quality in terms of tour dates, studio time, and promotional guest appearances is obvious. I don't think Fantasia is a bad person, I don't believe she's a good decision maker, and isn't well-grounded in reality.

She's been willing to do various projects that have come her way, but not anything more; she doesn't pursue opportunities in her career, it seems.

She definitely loves drama... but she has ALOT of issues. Her career seemed promising but she made some bad decisions that screwed things up.

For all those saying that she needs to focus on her music, that's just what she's been doing. She has a new album in store called "Side Effects Of You." It was available for pre-order on iTunes and has some great songs on it.

One other thing I would like to say is that I find it interesting that many people here are very judgy when it comes to her but not many know much about what she went through growing up or how her family sucked her dry once she started making money. Yes she's made some terrible decisions. Even still, she's deserving of compassion.

She brought this upon herself. Seriously. She was bailed out TWICE,given chance after chance from her label, Simon, American Idol and Oprah on Broadway. She had people to help set her up financially, but instead, listened to her family and the various "men" in her life. She was too busy helping and paying the bill of every person with their hand out. Her stupidity caught up with her and now, the bill is due. Waiting to see if it's going to be a centerfold ad in Playboy or something else gets "made public".

Public humiliation = whore shaming. We get it.

And her latest record just came out last week. #2 on the Billboard charts. So much for not focusing on her music/craft.

Fantasia can be a hot mess, but I do think she tries to do right for the most part.

This is not a woman with a lot of native intelligence, I mean, she admits to being illiterate, cannot read at all.

I don't say that to criticize her, but to point out that in addition to being led astray by various men, she herself is not really able to handle money without assistance. I hope she'll get it now and really *listen* finally.

S. Joy - thank you for that. Jennifer Hudson is her peer...not Kelly or Adam. The stakes are entirely different for them. Ruben comes to mind as well.

What, is it a race issue? Whatever happened to ruben Studdart (sp?)

+1. Yes she has made bad decisions but the way people are judging her on here is so unfair. Like comparing her to Taylor Swift...who could not have had a more different upbringing from Fantasia...is really messed up.

The comments here are actually pretty tame. They could be worse. Just because someone has a hard life doesn't mean they can't be called on their distasteful behavior. She called that guys wife to taunt the woman about not being able to " handle her business" as far as being a wife and that's why he was with Fantasia. If you want to show her compassion go right ahead but don't judge others who don't want to.

she just needs to focus on her money. She let her personal life distract her from the $$$$!!!
She has two kids now, no man. Cut off your blood sucking family members and take them kids on the road girl

Let's remember that Taylor Swift makes a lot of money off her songwriting. She's probably set for life with her royalties from her songs.

She shouldn't chase married men, but there's nothing wrong with having an abortion, especially if she is too broke to even keep her house.

UGH to Taylor Swift making that kind of coin acting like an angry 12-year-old scribbling in a diary about all those meanies at her middle school. That's how all her songs come off to me.

I've seen Fantasia in two interviews in the past week and then on Idol--it sounds like she really blew a lot of her chances after Idol and it sounds like she is trying to start over with a new album.

I have always liked her--she is very poorly educated and a lot of her problems came from trying to give to her family. I can't excuse the married guy thing--that was stupid and wrong.

I'd still like her to turn herself around--I like her voice and I think she's very unique--she looked great at both interviews--nicely dressed--very lady-like and fairly well-spoken. Last time I saw her before this, she was a hot mess all around.

She's awfully young to be "over"--and she has two young kids to raise--I hope she can pull it together and salvage some kind of career.

I wish her luck.
