Now I Feel Bad About That Roadhouse Joke

Look, I'm not a Patrick Swayze fan, and because I am a straight male I didn't enjoy Ghost or Dirty Dancing. In fact, I never even saw more than about five minutes of Ghost. I prefer to keep my good memories of Patrick Swayze like Red Dawn. Now that was a movie.

The National Enquirer is reporting that Patrick Swayze has five weeks to live because he is suffering from cancer that has spread through his entire body. I am all for getting a scoop, but somehow it doesn't seem right that if you do only have a few weeks to live that the entire world is going to watch you live those final weeks, and that you are going to have to spend those final weeks dodging paps because they want some last photo of you.

If Patrick only has five weeks, and it is just the headline that says it, then let the man enjoy his last few weeks without having to look over his shoulder or wonder if there is a pap in the bush outside his home. He and his wife have been married forever, and I wish them all the best. I think it really sucks what The Enquirer did. I don't think there is an actual line anyone has ever defined. I know that I don't want a body bag photo of someone, and I don't want to post any photos of Patrick from here on out, but it seems to me that someone should be allowed to live their final days without everyone doing some kind of countdown to see if The Enquirer was correct.

This is so sad. I loved both Ghost and Dirty Dancing and Swayze and his wife both seemed to stay out of the Hollywood fray. Pancreatic cancer is one of the worst types of cancers to get, and unfortunately, doctors usually overestimate the time remaining. I'm betting it will be less than five weeks.

We just don't know how much time we have left, any of us. Prayers to him and his family.

Yes, prayers for him and his family. What a shame.

So, so sad. I hope this one isn't true too crazypeanut. :( I was so in love with him when Dirty Dancing came out. My heart goes to him and his family.

I feel so sad for him....if true it's just a devasting diagnosis.

Now, let's talk about Dick Dale, who is a genius, an incredible performer and an all-around great guy. He has rectal cancer. Get well, Dick. We need to see you at the Birchmere in '09, OK?

My mom is gonna have a meltdown.
So sad.

My thoughts are with him.

This is such as sad story, and like the rest of you, I hope it isn't true.

If it IS true, and he does have pancreatic cancer, I really don't think Patrick is going to be out dodging the paps very much. He's mostly going to be confined to his bed because his body is being ravaged by this truly horrible disease. It took a friend of mine, and it's merciless.

This is horrible. He's always seemed so sweet and unassuming, so unlike many hollywood stars. And his wife! They were High School sweethearts, weren't they? How rare to find a marriage like that in LA. She must be devastated. My heart and prayers go out to her and his entire family, and a fervent prayer for him that his final days be filled with joy and laughter and love and as little pain as possible.

And Road House. He was great in that too!

I hope it's not true but if it is it's very sad. Hopefully Patrick and family can find some peace in the coming weeks.

I always liked Patrick Swayze, Dirty Dancing is one of my favorite movies. He seemed like he was a nice, down to earth sort of guy that just happened to be a movie star.

If this is true, I hope that he's as painfree as possible, and dies with no regrets.

If it's not true, then I will thank God that I won't have to see his creepy brother on the Inside Edition.

You SURE you're a straight male, EL? All the straight males I know have sat through those at least once to try and appease their female counterpart and get themselves some pussy!

I had the biggest crush on PS as a kid. Pancreatic cancer is the most deadly, and all cancer is of course very painful. I hope this rumor isnt true, but if it is, I hope they leave him alone.

Right now it looks like the only source is the Enquirer.

per Fox...

FOXNews.com's calls to Swayze's reps were not immediately returned. But a "very good source" reportedly told blogger Perez Hilton that Swayze has seemed fine lately.

"Patrick has been at rehearsals for a new cheerleading movie at Century City studio frequently lately, and he definitely does not look like he has 5 more weeks of life left…i'm not sure of his medical condition(s), but if he is gravely ill, he is hiding it very well," the source said.

I'm hoping this one is false! PS was one of my first girlhood crushes, and I still count "Dirty Dancing" as one of my favorite movies.

OH goodness! I watched Dirty Dancing 26 times... and that was the first week I got it... Yeah, mildly obsessed with P.W.

Still love the "Love is Strange" scene...

but his doctors are no longer optimistic that the treatments will be successful.
My Dad died of pancreatic cancer last September, so I've learnt quite a deal about it. This is the most aggressive cancer there is and the chance of survival are minimal. Only 2 % of the patients are still alive 5 years after they have been diagnosed - although my doctor recently said it's only 1 % in 15 months...

If this is true, I really hope he's allowed to spend his last days with his beloved ones instead of the paparazzi, because that's the last thing you want when trying to say goodbye.

If this isn't true, and I really hope it isn't, then shame on the NE for posting such a terrible thing.

Schnee, I'm so sorry about your dad. I know how difficult it is to lose a loved one.

Unfortunately it's true (per Page Six)

DN, thanks. I was hoping they got it wrong, but I guess not.

local news said neither the time frame nor the effectiveness of treatments (as reported by NE) had been confirmed.

Schnee, I lost my dad and granddad the same way a few years ago.

Whatever one thinks of Patrick Swayze, or any famous person, it's not something you wish upon somebody or make light of. Apparently the reports of "5 weeks to live" and such are exaggerated and he is still doing pretty good...let's hope he gets to stay that way for as long as possible. Seems like a good guy. And being a dancer and a bit of a health nut from what I understand, he'll probably hang on for alot longer than expected.

He's gonna be a real ghost soon.

This news just breaks my heart-EVERYONE in Houston adores this man. I know a few people who went to Waltrip (High School) with him-not sure if that's where his wife Lisa went too, I just know that she took dance lessons from his mom Patsy when she was about 15 or so, and they've been together ever since.

My prayers are with him & his family. I was told that at mass at at least 1 Catholic church in Houston (probably St. Rose of Lima), when the priest was offering up prayers to those who are sick or dying (& the congregations responds w/: "Lord, heard our prayer") Patrick Swayze was actually was mentioned. I really hope it really did happen, and that people will submit his name to be recognized during other masses at other churches.
