I'm Worried About Steven Tyler

Last night Steven Tyler took a fall from a South Dakota stage and had to be hospitalized. Although he suffered some head and neck injuries it doesn't appear from the first reports that the injuries are anything that serious. Still though you have to worry anytime it involves your head or neck or back. The thing that makes me so worried though is that Steven has a long history of drug abuse and just finished a stint in rehab not so long ago for his dependence on pain medication. The way most people deal with head and back pain is through medication and so I wonder if the doctors are going to put him on pain medications and that it will lead him to become addicted to them again.

The incident happened last night when the power went out on stage. To keep the audience entertained while the sound problems were fixed, Steven did what Steven does best and that is dancing around on the stage. At one point he lost his balance and ended up in the crowd. A doctor took a look at him backstage and then Steven was airlifted to a local hospital.

I pray for a speedy recovery!

May he get well quickly, without becoming addicted.

His doctors should take his substance abuse issues into account while prescribing pain meds (no refills, etc), but I guess Michael Jackson's situation really highlights how fame can have an undue influence on medical professionals.

Man! They don't make "showmen" like Steven Tyler anymore. I bet any of the current "singers" out there would have just walked off stage and cancelled the show. Let's hear it for old school rockers! Hope he gets better soon.

Actually, Rapid City Regional ain't that bad a place to get treated.

Hope he gets well and stays well. I'm sure they will do the best they can with non-narcotics if that's what Steven wants.

Steven Tyler has been up and down this road a million times. I remember seeing him in Philly back in the day, and the Cars opened up for them, blew aerssmith outa the theatre. Another concert, GnR opened for them and the place was packed .. by the time aerosmith came on, the place had emptied out. I am an old school original aerosmith fan and I cant bear to watch what he has done to himself.

Even tho he looks like a little stick o' beef jerky, I still think he's hot. Hope he recovers quickly.

Saw Areosmith when they toured with KISS. Thye sucked, hard! KISS went on first, which usually is never done, because when people got there for the "main show" and fond out KISS had played already, they walked out!!! We watched the Areosmith part, and they sucked. Only did 4 "known' songs, and spent the rest of the night having a "blues' jam session. People were booing and throwning stuff at the stage. It was bad all around.

I like Areosmiths music, but live, never again. Sad part is they are on tour right now with ZZ Top. Wonder how that's gonna work?

You'd think they'd take substance abuse into account, but they don't necessarily. My mother just had surgery for breast cancer, and one of the medicines they gave her for pain is highly addictive. When she relized it made her feel like she was drunk, she went in the garage, took Dad's hammer, and pounded them into little itty bitty dust molecules, then flushed the powder. The doctor's knew that she has an addicitive personality, but they gave it to her anyway. I think Enty's right to be worried.

Heck, I just heard he slipped and hit his head and had sent him to the ER. I didn't know about the airlift. I wish him well.

Glad to hear the whole story... I just though he took a header, never heard the bit about the lights being out. He's an entertainer - I hope he comes out of this OK.

Oh if only they were there 10 years ago ...

That kind of injury is awful. Hope he bounces back ok.

Oh fairylights

Something about that just moved me.

And no, it's not the banana in my pocket. ;-)

No concussion. Broken shoulder and stitches in his head and shoulder. He'll be fine in a couple of months.

My husband was reading the newspaper yesterday, and as he was flipping pages I commented on a picture of an ancient-looking woman that looked like a well-preserved fossil found in ice.

No wonder Ent is so worried about him. Now I am, too.

one of my fears is becoming addicted to pain meds. because i simply could not deal with an injury like this without meds. geez.
and different meds work in different ways.
i hope he gets through this, and his attendings are smarter than some of the docs i've dealt with.
